I think we all end up getting the boarder with the paint inlays. It is usually where you apply that extra paint and then press your inlay into it and then you end up seeing where the edges of your cut out paint inlay was embedded into the paint. Easiest way to fix that is to just sand that distinct line down witn a little sand paper before sealing. It will make everything blend in much better. But yes, that is very common.
Linda, your persistence really paid off since all three risers turned out so beautifully! I also have to say that I love your attention to making the underside / back of your projects just as beautiful as the rest! A lot of crafters don't do that, and I really appreciate that you do! Of all three, my favorite is #1!
All your risers are stunning. I do favor the 1st one, I love the detail using the molds. An amazing job with all 3 and you have quite the patience. Don't know if I would. Thank you for sharing your talent and projects.
They are all so pretty. I envy you using the molds with clay. I have tried, but I am not successful. The clay molds really took these risers to the next level up. Have a great week.
These risers are gorgeous! I have used stamps before but never seen the technique you used. Excellent tutorial! Thank you so very much for these tips! 🌿🌱🪴
@lindadianedesigns1808 I pounce around the design to get rid of the line around and if you ended up with a wrinkle it jut softens those areas that the inlay leaves.
Thanks for sharing! I love the different feet you’re using! I’m inspired. I have a heap of curtain accessories that may make great feet too! Going to have to have a hunt now!
Hi Linda, I'm a new subscriber. I have to let you know that I love watching you. Especially because you show the tools you use and tell us why you use them! I'm self taught and guess constantly on what brushes to use. All the risers are wonderful, but your explanations are making me love you all the more! ❤
Thanks for sharing your suffering on the paint inlay; it's been helpful (sounds strange lol). I've been lurking on this technique. In the most successful application I saw, and can't remember now who it was, she really drenched the surface and the inlay, and spent a lot of time tamping it down, using a brayer. I guess the thing is making good wet-to-wet contact. I think I would have given up and used a couple of stamps. But I'm glad you persisted. Thanks for this video. PS. Forgot to say, I particularly loved your first riser, especially the placement of the molds, and will be using some of your ideas.
You brilliantly salvaged that last one. I don't think I would have had the patience. They all turned out beautifully. And thank you for posting your mistakes, that way we can learn.
I love your work. I can't wait till I can save up to try the inlays. DIY stockists should seek their used ones for people to try lol. I wish they did sell lil sample inlays so u could practice with a small piece before doing a large piece cause I think I would cry if I spent that much money and ruined it lol..
I just love everyone one of your videos! I’ve had the same thing happen to me with the inlays. I think I didn’t put my layer of paint on quite thick enough. And on another piece when I used an off white, I too noticed the boarders. Wonder if you put it on a pure white if you notice the boarders. Problem is, I like colors so white isn’t always my jam. Lol
Thanks for sharing your experience with the inlays! I’d love to experiment with different colors, but I don’t want to waste them. I think I will try pure white next time & see if that makes a difference. Thank you so much!
I had trouble w that inlay as well…….don’t really know anyone who hasn’t. I ended up using a Pitt pen and drawing it in. So disappointing because it’s a beautiful inlay.
I have had a handful of my customers say that they do not get good results with the inlays when they use store bought chalk paint. I looked into this and tried it out for myself. First off, I learned that store bought (Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, etc.) chalk paint is not actual "real" chalk paint just like taking latex paint and adding in calcium carbonate or plaster of paris to DIY (do it yourself) your own chalk paint, isn't "real" chalk paint. I am assuming that there is something in the store bought and DIY (do it yourself) chalk paints that the inlay just doesn't work well with. I tried 4 or 5 different store bought ones and also made my own and to my surprise, my results were awful compared to using a boutique style chalk paint like Debi's Design Diary DIY paint, Dixie Belle chalk mineral paint, Country Chic, etc. As far as top coats go, I have not had an issue using any polycrylic based top coat. I have tried Minwax polycrylic, Big Top, Crystal Clear Liquid Patina and Dixie Belle Clear Coat. All of which gave me beautiful results. I have talked to a few different IOD stockist and a couple of them said that their customers had the same issues with the store bought and the DIY (do it yourself) chalk paints. Hope this information helps a little ❤
Thank you thank you thank you!!! Excellent information & advice! I am so grateful for your work on figuring this out! I have some of the Dixie Belle paints, but not a white one. I appreciate your input so much!❤️

You are so welcome! Thank you so much!
Great recovery on last diy. They all turned out beautifully!🌞Fl
Thank you!
What i found that works for me on the paint inlays is to take a small stencil brush and pounce those areas.
Do you mean pouncing the paint or the inlay?
@lindadianedesigns1808 I pounce around the design to get rid of the line around and if you ended up with a wrinkle it jut softens those areas that the inlay leaves.
They're all so beautiful
Thank you!
Great projects TYFS and the inspiration (Pauline S)

Thank you so much! I definitely did not use enough paint & I forgot to mist the inlay.
Very good instructions . Thank you!

You’re welcome & thank you! I do want to share the struggles, you’re absolutely right, that’s how we learn!

I agree! They are expensive & I didn’t want to ruin it, made me nervous!
Beautiful risers!

Thank you!
I love that you left the struggles in for us to learn from. What exactly is a riser used for ? Not something I see used in NZ. Thanks 😊
People usually use them to display small items, kind of like a tiered tray. Thank you for your interest!
Love it Linda
Thanks so much!
Looks great.
Thanks!
I love all the risers, they are absolutely beautiful👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you!

Thank you, I appreciate the info!
All 3 risers turned out absolutely stunning 😍 Thank you so much for sharing your process with us ❣️❤️
All three are beautiful! Is the moral of the story to use polycrylic instead of paint with IOD inlays?
Thank you! Poly is a great alternative to paint but I’d like to be proficient at both.
❤
Thanks!
