interesting video! i am going to try to do a commonplace binder myself now. i have seen your comment and would love to know what you think of my videos now after uploading a few more new ones! thank you for this video and keep it up! :)
I love binders and how customizable the covers can be! But I avoided them for years because the paper sheets always end up loose or falling from it. This year i started my own journal + commonplacing hybrid notebook and figured out that i could use a binder with plastic sleeves to protects the paper and make it durable. It worked! I still have 20 pages left of my 1st hybrid notebook, but I am already filling my binder first with art pieces and family pictures ✨️ It is so much fun! Hope to see more from your binder!
That's so cool! The most durable binder I have uses plastic sleeves to protect the pages. It's almost 20 years old at this point - and is the best record of what life was like back then! I hope your art pieces and family pictures stay just as well protected! ✨
Hi, awesome idea! For me a binder sure makes way more sense for a commonplace source. Can you show us your binder for example in what you are saying? Thanks for the video!
Thanks! Do you want me to hold it up more? Or simply focus more on the writing than my face? Or maybe a flip through? Perhaps something more complex like hold it up and edit in a highlight or underline for whatever I'm reading as I read it? I'm a bit confused.
yeah confusion seems to be going around basically this is "How to - Data - Year 2" but as it is me simply talking about the main types of videos on Commonplace Books, it might have been more accurate to label it as something like: "Searching for the least overused format of videos on How to Make a Commonplace Book and presenting a numbered list of what I believe are the most frequent types of framing as of fall 2023 with items higher on the list having more views and items near the top but with a smaller number signifying what is likely a more efficient type of video to make" but that's an absurdly long title and it's still not totally accurate the main type of person who would benefit from such information is the type of person who makes videos on the search term "Commonplace Book" and as that only applies to roughly 50 - 500 people depending on how we count it - this video broke containment haha in the future I plan on making this sort of thing much more clear and understandable in both the first 30 seconds and the description - and we're approaching the second scheduled set of 10 so I guess you can tell me how I did (if you're willing to risk not getting anything out of a second video) thanks for watching the full video! If you're looking for a specific type of video like "How to make a commonplace book" or simply want something explained in a slightly different way; I'll probably reply within 3 hours to 3 days (no promises lol) - but there's currently a glitch on the channel (and others) which sometimes hides comments (unless someone uses the "sort by" button (to find them) to the right of the number of comments on the video)
@@ha3908 watched your pend? Okay so the definition of a commonplace book depends on who you ask. Some people will say it's basically anything related to a journal/scrapbook/album/etc. from the last few thousands years. Others will say it's only something done by White Christian thinkers in a specific style lined out by one specific British guy and then focused on something like quotes from the same types of guys. Normally people are somewhat in between the two extremes. If I were to explain a medium between those two I might say something like: To me a Commonplace Book is simply the book a person uses to understand their personal library, themselves, and/or the combination of ideas. It's a practice that doesn't really exist anymore. At least percentage wise. The portion of the population that does it might actually be higher than at most other points of history. But in the modern era it usually makes more sense to use digital applications and the internet. If the book was for summaries, lists, notes, and all the other stuff we use computers for... then literally why use a book? We have many apps and websites which now fill pretty much whatever void a person who commonplaces could want. With the main exceptions of using it like a scrapbook or having a book no one can hack. If you want an easy to understand definition or complete understanding I would probably try this: 1. read the top paragraph on the commonplace book wiki (after finishing this comment) 2. read the top paragraph on the personal knowledge base wiki 3. watch 5 different videos (1 from 5 different channels) on what a commonplace book is but above all: just remember that none of the definitions are satisfactory as we're talking about something that might be almost entirely fact or fiction, words or visuals, science or faith, etc. I like to think of it as journals/scrapbooks/albums/etc. being a bunch of square tiles on a floor and commonplace books being the definition of a rectangle.

Description:
- the description is more of a live react than a descriptive description
Process:

Presentation:
- instead of constantly keeping the handwritten information on screen or duplicating it with edited white text that I leave on screen - I decided to simply set the binder down and talk about it - if you're looking for the information in the video and can't get it from my spoken words - simply click on the exact times at which I hold up the binder - if you can read my handwriting you can get all the information - in summary: when I hold up the binder the information is visible

- this was done in one take when I had 5 - 35 subs - this is why there is so much random laughing - no idea if anyone would watch - no idea if the process or project would be interesting or allowed - total gamble
- I've been considering presenting this information digitally as a "Personal knowledge base" but there hasn't been any pressure to do so
