Making my Own PLATFORM SHOES: Making a Blue Velvet Outfit with Platforms (because I want to be tall)

  • This is Part 2 of my Blue Velvet Thrift Flip Outfit. I wanted a pair of Demonias but they're very expensive so I decided to make a pair of my own platform boots!
    MATERIALS:
    Thrifted boots to Flip
    Foam
    E6000 / Shoe Goo / Contact Cement
    (E6000 - amzn.to/3joQ8jg this has a pointed tip - amzn.to/38kXs9m)
    (Shoe Goo - amzn.to/3yop8Ve)
    (Contact Cement - amzn.to/2Y8mbMp)
    Heat gun / Hair Drier - amzn.to/3Doedi2
    Scissors
    Band Saw
    Mask - for toxic fumes and particles
    Safety goggles
    Pliers
    Hammer
    Clamps and two Flat metal sheets
    SEWING MUST HAVES:
    Sewing Pins, Measuring Tape, Seam Ripper - amzn.to/3uzIjuL
    I recommend a good pair of FABRIC SCISSORS so you never have any trouble cutting your cloth- amzn.to/3swvhwd
    Sewing Machine (The one I use is a really old Brother model and sometimes a newer Singer model, but the kind isn't a huge deal as long as it has assorted foots and a strait and zig-zag stitch)

    For the price of all that E6000 you could have got the contact cement shoemakers use.

    I do this too!! I'm a lady's USA size 4 , since most women's begin at a 6 or 6.5 that makes finding feminine adult shoes nearly impossible. Happy to see this is becoming more common. Also, I have used YOGA BLOCKS! From free box or from thrift stores to make my platform soles :) I have made mini platforms for my toddler. As well :D

    You might want to add a rubber bottom so that you don't wear away the bottoms of those amazing shoes!

    Also another tip: acetone works well as well as using one of those long butter spreader knife things to separate the heel from the sole without damage from heat gun or prolonged irritation. I have used black silicone to clean up the edges on some of my homemade platforms.

    Hello Sierra, what an amazing and creative idea! Never seen anyone that tried to make his or her own platform shoes! Wow, really terrific result, you can be very proud! Thanks so much for the inspiration and have a wonderful week, all the best, Erika

    Bright white, and creamy lace mermaid cut skirt (high cut in front long in back ) would look cute too. With long cloves White on top cream on bottoms of gloves

    Nice work! Heels are removed by placing the shoe in a vice (protect the grip surface) and using a pry bar. You should be able to find a small one in any hardware store, or possibly a novelty store. These also turned out well. It's clear that craftsmanship is important to you, it's not just about aesthetics.

    To avoid the quarter inch edge on the platform, I would recommend shaving them down more before gluing them to the shoe; you can use the original sole as a pattern once you have the curve for the heel carved into them! Otherwise it would just be some trial and error to get them to the right shape and then you're good to glue. You could also place a piece of paper on the sole and trace the outline of where the sole should go onto that.

    Wow! I'm so impressed. I need to increase the height of my left shoe cuz of a short leg. You are so inspirational. Was the foam slippery on the bottom? Years ago I glued smooth craft foam to the sole of a left shoe. When I was out, it rained and the shoe became so slippery, especially when I stepped on a painted parking lot stripe. I was afraid I'd fall.

    Any thoughts on alternative material for the foam? I'm bigger and like terrified that the foam will either collapse or make me roll my ankle during the event I want to make shoes like this for

    • @SierraMake
      @SierraMake  Год назад +2

      they do make firmer foam then the type i’m using here. Otherwise I would look for some rubberized material.

  • @kiekie84
    @kiekie84 Год назад

    sorry, but, if it were me I would have left the shoe as is and instead made the rainbow foam heel and then cut a shape the shape of the heels from top to bottom to fit the original heel of the shoe into the rainbow foam heel part with glue all in side the hole in there and on the bottom of the shoe al;so I would have bought a black bottom shoe piece so the heel could last longer because I see 2 issues with this #1 the shoe may be bouncy and foam like now but just wait till you walk outside for a bit soon its gonna be deflated loppsided wobbly and uncomfortable but if the heel had been left on the shoe and just put into the foam heel then your foot and the heel of your foot would be adding all the weight onto the heel that was already there instead just on the foam alone allowing the foam heel to last way way longer and putting the original heel into the foam heel not only gives support to the foam heel to last longer and to your whole foot but also in doing it that way it would also hide the original heel inside the rainbow foam block you know? and #2 without that black bottom rubber piece the bottom foam is surly gonna were out sooner rather than later and all that gravel grinding the shoe down I mean water alone does this to rocks over time and where literally walking on gravel and wet gravel at that so the bottom shoe being just foam alone and just flimsy foam at that is now skidding across the roads and streets and sidewalks which means everywhere you walk is just gonna mangle the bottom of that foam by the end of the day that's why we have those black hard rubber bottoms... but yeah those are the biggest issues I see and hey I see how creative you are and it's great that you gave it a shot I'm not knocking your efforts I just am pointing out the possible flaws here sooo sorry but it is what it is either way great look I love love love the rainbow idea for the heel its absolutely a cool look and I would love to own a pair of shoes like that so great job on the styling part!

    Why didn`t you sand the sides? The shoes wouldn`t look so cheap if you had finished them the right way.

    • @SierraMake
      @SierraMake  5 месяцев назад +1

      I tried sanding on a test piece and it blended all the colors together looking muddy. I wanted those sharp bright lines so I left it how it was. If I used a solid color for it, sanding it would be a great idea.

    • @your_ex_lover
      @your_ex_lover 4 месяца назад

      Maybe, like how they paint the famous cherry red vehicle (using 10 layers of gloss and sanding it between to have a depth to the color) $8k A job. You could put layers of some kinda medium like super glue mixed with baking soda (like a acrylic for artificial fingernails but cheaper) sand down with mask, then some kinda gloss that's ok for human innteraction. The news says micro plastic now get into people's valves and cause heart attacks. Microplastics! We knew we shouldn't have been microwaving stuff in plastic wraps! I been putting stuff in the microwave with the wrapper, the hard plastic it comes in, the box. Without ever opening it it. Lol! Hope that was interesting to someone (what I wrote).
      Oh snap! Those look soo freaking cute! I can't even tell they need sanded down woweee
