Hi Craig, great video! Here's my top 14 albums from 1980 that I have in my record collection. Please note that some of these albums might've been released in either late 1979 or early 1981 depending on country. Anyway, without further ado here's my picks... 14. Joan Jett - Joan Jett (re-released as "Bad Reputation" in 1981) 13. Blondie - Autoamerican 12. The Psychedelic Furs - The Psychedelic Furs 11. The Selecter - Too Much Pressure 10. The (English) Beat - I Just Can't Stop It 9. The Specials - More Specials 8. Talking Heads - Remain In Light 7. The Clash - Sandinista! 6. Squeeze - Argybargy 5. Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Get Happy!! 4. Pretenders - Pretenders 3. The Jam - Sound Affects 2. X - Los Angeles 1. The Clash - London Calling (US release) honorable mention: The Cure - Boys Don't Cry
Hey Craig! I love that U2 album too. Shadows and Tall Trees is a great song. The only OMD I have is a greatest hits and their early stuff sounds really interesting but I've never taken the time to check it out. Zenyatta Mondatta might be my favorite too - either that or Regatta de Blanc. I've never heard the Tourists. Need to check that out... Don't know 999 either. Hope you're doing well. I recently got a double LP of Stewart Copeland's band "Klark Kent" - it's a compilation of all he released under that name. He released an EP in 1980 that was just called Klark Kent, right around the time of Zenyatta Mondatta. "Away From Home" is a great song from that...
What a fun series idea! Maybe you could do a second round of this about albums from the year that you like that you don’t own or would like to have. I don’t have a lot of albums that were actually made in 1980. I have Luminous Basement, and also Queen’s The Game, Donna Summer’s The Wanderer, and a Dr Demento compilation. I also have OMD’s self-titled and Organisation, Seventeen Seconds, Devo’s Freedom of Choice, Joy Division’s Closer, Siouxsie’s Kaleidoscope, David Bowie’s Scary Monsters, and U2’s Boy. So not as much to choose from.
Craig, a great way to share some of what you you have per year. Off to a great start! Dirty Mind still blows me away at under 30 mins, and Crimes of Passion can't be beat. English Beat, B-52's, Echo, Cure, OMD...a better year than I remember! Looking forward to 1981 and beyond... 😎🎶
The OMD debut is likely the one I used to have that I liked so much. And then I bought Dazzle Ships and never listened to OMD again. Crocodiles is an excellent debut. I feel like Echo and the Bunnymen with their debut found the perfect middle with their sound between Joy Division and The Cure. I agree that I Just Can't Stop It is FANTASTIC!
@@calvinwazoo dazzle ships is not the best. They have a lot of really great albums after that. A comp to get would be “souvenirs” it’s 3 discs and spans almost their entire career.

You should check out Joe King Carrasco. One of his tracks has Michael Jackson singing backup. It’s on a later LP. Mink DeVille was a great band. His later work was as Willie DeVille. Soulful singer, got to see him 4 or 5 times.

That was great Craig I’m glad seventeen seconds was the winner. My favorite 1980 would have to be a se factor back in black hehe

@@flamingroove the only one I know is Catholic Boy. It almost made the list.
Oh and London Calling but I feel like that’s a 79 album although it wasn’t released in the US until 80.
