Does anyone have a recording of the 'crusty' session in Mandela Hall at Sussex university, probably around 1989? Student union were on strike, I think Shaka was running his set from a generator. No lights in the dance except the one bulb above his turntable. Shaka was on form that night. The reason it was called the crusty dance was because there was a new age travellers site on the campus, and loads of them turned up. What a vibe!!!
I don't know about the Shaka dance but I was at King Tafari Love vs Manasseh in 1991 at Sussex University - student sit in, lights out, both sounds running from generators.
Jah Shaka , Sir Coxsone , Fatman HiFi should be awarded for their contribution to the Sound System industry in the UK .
