Some folks think its a race issue. Lets see, Jim Schwartz got 5 years to clean up the Rod Marinelli mess. Discount the 2009 2-14 trash fire after Marinelli's 2008 0-16 season. Schwartz went 27-37 with one playoff appearance and 1 winning season in the remaining 4 years. Jim Caldwell went 36-28 in 4 seasons, with 2 playoff appearances, and was one win away from beating out Atlanta for the last playoff spot in 2017. He had three winning seasons out of his four years, and the first time the Lions recorded consecutive winning seasons in 22 years! So why fire Caldwell? Just because you have an aeronautical engineering degree from RPI doesn't mean you can coach a football team well. Who cares if you're a rocket scientist; we're not building rockets, we're coaching football. The rocket scientist thing is getting pretty annoying.
Wait why are we giving him the benefit of the doubt when they lost the 11 last straight games, and before that 1 win they last 3 straight! Bro I normally agree with you but as a Detroit resident being told 9-7 isn't good enough?! now my team over 3 years has won 9 total games...he needs to go asap!
Teams just assume they can get the next great head coach from Bill Belicheck's school of puppets. I could say the same for teams who have plucked assistant coaches from the Carolina Panthers. Steve Wilks in AZ and McDermott in Buffalo. If I had to hire a head coach from another team, I'd probably take one from Andy Reid coaching tree.
The Andy Reid tree is really the paul brown, bill Walsh, mike Holmgren, coaching tree !!! All hall of fame coaches except for one who is probably soon to be!! Who is in the hall except for bellacheck? Can't think of any !!!
What did Matt Patricia sell the Detriot Lions? His defense in New England was atrocious but yet he has a head coaching job in the NFL. Plus Bill Beliechick coaching three is not impressive to say the least. There are more qualified coaches out there that the Lions could have taken over Patricia.
Bob Quinn came from NE that's why he got the job. Quinn has sabotaged a roster that had talent but needed to fix a few positions. Now with his personnel decisions by drafting and FA decisions the roster is so talent deprived among the front 7 and at WR
Coaching tree is the most important thing to consider when picking a head coach. That's why if I'm looking for a new HC, I want someone from the Chiefs because Andy Reid has the GOAT coaching tree.
1) There have been plenty assistant coaches who became great head coaches 2) Bill O Brien coached Penn State before becoming the Houston. He also had the pressure of bringing them back and having a winning culture after the NCAA sanctions and was the schools first head coach post Joe Paterno...
He's just isn't able to coach in the modern era. Maybe in the 80s he would be a 9-7 coach but not when offensive minded coaches like mcvay and Pedersen are around
Mat Patricia is trying to be like Belichick but Bill had Tom Brady. Now that Brady is gone Bill Belichick will never win another superbowl ever again. Brady will get another superbowl.
Players are frustrated that they have to work more and with rule changes. Apparently, they are satisfied with the rules that made them losers. They are satisfied with wild card appearances. As long as they get their paychecks.
Chris cox patricia was NOT the DC when the patriots won their first three Super Bowls. Wtf are you talking about? He was like a line backer coach or something back then.
the game started off good for him but it ended bad it's just one game on to the next one Matt still cheering for you homie best of luck with your coaching career
there's a new article in detroit free press that patricia is late to his own meetings. unqualified to be a head coach. this hire set the franchise back 5 years
I’ve been watching football every week now for only 3 years, I wish I got in to it sooner. Can anyone with expert knowledge of this sport tell me what is likely to happen to Matt Patricia this season?
And we know why. Those great coaches set up their disciples for success. But look at what we learned with the Josh McDaniel Colts unhiring. Belicheck had to lure McDaniels back with language in the contract stating that Bill will include Josh in the day-to-day preparations and operations from a head coach perspective. When I heard that, I was thinking "shouldn't the head coach be already doing that with his staff?" The Patriots atmosphere is so guarded, so isolated, dare I say so paranoid, that Bill doesn't want any other person besides him to grasp the full picture. That's not a recipe for success when those guys head out on their own. You can see the pride in Andy Reid when his guys head coach other teams and do well. Not so much Bill Belicheck. In fact Bill is so competitive his lack of generosity in sharing knowledge is probably by design. He doesn't want those guys coming back to beat him. He might have taught everything that they know, but he won't ever teach them everything he knows.
@@dcollins8718 Yeah because Tom Brady was the reason the patriots defense has ranked in the top ten every year Bill has been there. let me guess, you also think Tom Brady kicked all those game winning field goals and picked off Wilson in the end zone?
It’s not a mistake. Detroit needs it. They’ll get over it. This is just an eye opener for the team and realization of how good they are. Time for the players to make a decision if they want to keep riding the ship and be warriors or show your true colors and jump off the ship. That simple🤷♂️
Patricia terrible Caldwell terrible not winning big with nither one white black red green don't matter not about race after Losing for decades it's about W L's period
Caldwell has a good head coaching record. 62-50 overall. 26-22 in Indy, including the 2-14 non-Manning season and he was 36-28 in Detroit. I'm sure there are a lot of organizations that would love to have a coach with a record like that. I don't think it is a racial issue, though. I think the Lions are just a poorly ran organization that routinely shoot themselves in the foot with their incompetence.
Btw Belichick DID NOT call the defense. Patricia did. Now Bill is running the defense with Flores and theres a noticeable difference in the play calling
Gimme a break. Matt Patricia cannot take that organization down any further as this team can only go up. This team has to start drafting a better QB and some field leaders. Only one pro bowler over the last 5 years if my memory serves me. These players have to understand they are seeing constant change due to the lack of wins. Why on earth would it be a problem to mimic a winning formula or atmosphere like New England. It may not work, but damn you have to start somewhere.
@@kyj060792 but zero playoff wins. Thats what these shmucks fail to mention. Making the playoffs shouldnt be good enough. I dont care about history. I just want at least one playoff win.
I am not a huge fan of Patricia and the Pats coaching staff getting head coaching jobs. But to be fair. The media said the same about Doug Pederson and ended up winning the super bowl. But I’m not sure why former patriots assistant coaches just don’t work out as head coaches. But he deserves a chance
Skip does have a point. NFL teams would be wise to look harder at certain college coaches who have the head coaching experience rather than flying blind with an assistant in his first head coach gig.

Well this video did come out 2 years when he just got started, obviously skip got it right on this one
I’m a lions fan and I never wanted this guy here
bruce wolterink same!
STOP IT! U NO U DROOLED LIKE A BABY WEN HE BECAME UR HC!
defensive coach of the 30th ranked defense
amazing qualifications
Teams just assume they can get the next great head coach from Bill Belicheck's school of puppets. I could say the same for teams who have plucked assistant coaches from the Carolina Panthers. Steve Wilks in AZ and McDermott in Buffalo. If I had to hire a head coach from another team, I'd probably take one from Andy Reid coaching tree.
Agreed
give me Andy Reids diciples anyday over Belichecks
Fax
That wold be a good choice in this offensive era of football...
Don Savage it’s not super impressive, but he has had Nick Saban, Eric Mangini, Jim Schwartz and Bill Obrian as assistants
Yeah like Caldwell
Bob Quinn came from NE that's why he got the job. Quinn has sabotaged a roster that had talent but needed to fix a few positions. Now with his personnel decisions by drafting and FA decisions the roster is so talent deprived among the front 7 and at WR
pretty sure it was just a popularity thing, he wore that shirt had his 15 minutes and detroit just cashing in on it
Coaching tree is the most important thing to consider when picking a head coach. That's why if I'm looking for a new HC, I want someone from the Chiefs because Andy Reid has the GOAT coaching tree.
True. Andy has a ton of good names in his tree. Bill is a great coach, but his assistents aren't good coaches
@@otaviofrnazario they are yes man.
Shannon "hold on why u following me on insta why u following me on ig stay off my page"😂
Matt Patricia is being paid in 3 buckets of KFC and a case of Ramen noodles. Honestly, how do you hire a guy named Patricia?
😂
What doez his name have to do with it? Remember Lovie Smith?
But the last coach was named Caldwell 😅
who's here in 2020 wanting a change in coach!
Like really. 10 - 25 over 9-7
Us Detroit fans pride our basketball and football well....
Just Basketball now
Ian Clark neither now
@@justifiedcrusader6868 Cade: I can fix that.
I love when Shannon subltly replies whenever Skip is on a rant.. 'You right'...'Correct'...'You right'.. 'mmmhmm'
MATTY PATTY WAS HIRED BECAUSE OF HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS PENCIL!
Patricia unable to stop a backup quarterback in the superbowl is all I needed to see!
Lions should let Sean Lee coach the team
Hahahahahaha... Sean Lee had the best rap album ever!!! Right Kanye???
LET AB COACH THE TEAM! 👻👻👻
" I blocked you".. 😂 I heard that
Jim Bob Cooter is the biggest problem. His playcalling is so bad and predictable.
Play calling is worse than his name and that is saying a lot.
I agree
They will never mention him on TV because they can’t keep a straight face while saying his name
Cootah. Pow! Right in the cootah!
it wasnt last season
1) There have been plenty assistant coaches who became great head coaches
2) Bill O Brien coached Penn State before becoming the Houston.
Cmon no mention of shanahan shanahan can run circles around those 2 but it dont help when players dont execute for him
2 years later Detroit still dealing with him thanks alot patricia wish he would just step down
Mat Patricia is trying to be like Belichick but Bill had Tom Brady. Now that Brady is gone Bill Belichick will never win another superbowl ever again. Brady will get another superbowl.
Brady wont win another superbowl. He should've just retired.
@@jabaricrewsellis8740 Well that aged well
@@jabaricrewsellis8740 internet losers and dumb takes name a better duo
Skip made great points in this conversation 3:57 Just excellent and new perspective
Players are frustrated that they have to work more and with rule changes. Apparently, they are satisfied with the rules that made them losers. They are satisfied with wild card appearances. As long as they get their paychecks.
True. They have to change the culture in the locker room. People don't like change but if they start winning they will be in for the winning culture.
If the change leads to blowouts, it take longer for it to grow on players
U can tell who's there just to get paid...
@J Day sad but this is bout more that money
@J Day Yeah but I enjoy being good at what I do. I take pride in being one of the best.
Matt Patricia reminds me of the fictional character of Bruno in the movie Popeye. lol 😝
Truth be told, the Pats D wasn’t THAT good under his helm..
Wat do you mean? Lmao that D that wasn’t that good carried tb12 to his first 3 Super Bowls and carried drew Bledsoe to a super bowl trip
Chris cox patricia was NOT the DC when the patriots won their first three Super Bowls. Wtf are you talking about? He was like a line backer coach or something back then.
@@chriscox218 Romeo crenell was the DC during the first 3 super bowl wins.
Matty P and Bob Quinn are building something big in Detroit.
This aged like rotten eggs.
Matt will be one n done. Ain't no way I would've hired him. Especially coming from Belichick! They should've kept Caldwell.
the game started off good for him but it ended bad it's just one game on to the next one Matt still cheering for you homie best of luck with your coaching career
Judging him off 1blowwwww out game against the Jets 🤔🤔🤔🤔 Meanwhile Cowboys & Bengals head coach get paid to lose for yearssssss....
This is in reference to the Slay incident
As a Pats fan I'm so glad he's gone
First time in long time I agree what Skip says
Wow caldwell the most underrated coach he wins and never has a long term team too stick with colts lions etc
This segment has earned a fan of the show.
I will tune in to see if these 2 guys are consistently this good. 👍
Average joe in his 40s
Patricia in Detroit is just a bad fit
Naw, the players are crying before he gets started... It won't work now cuz u have to have belief in the system by those same weak players.
@@jessea5044 Exactly. This team might as well be cheerleaders for GB.
Like the KISS reference in the topic title."Detroit Rock City"
just 'cuz you work with a genius...don't make YOU a genius
Was bill belicheck qualified for his first head coaching job?
#Facts
Yes the defenses he coordinated as an assistant were better than Patricias defenses. Patricias defenses were always garbage.
Skip made no sense there... #SeeBillParcells
@@jtmr.1645 as a assistant wow that is so dumb
@@tryp_da_ghost sorry meant a defensive coordinator
there's a new article in detroit free press that patricia is late to his own meetings.
unqualified to be a head coach.
this hire set the franchise back 5 years
HES NOT SEAN LEE
Sean Lee... Lol...
I’ve been watching football every week now for only 3 years, I wish I got in to it sooner. Can anyone with expert knowledge of this sport tell me what is likely to happen to Matt Patricia this season?
Keemstar in the thumbnail!!???
taco bell 😂😂😂😂
taco bell W
To change the subject....Shannon you need to cut Baker Mayfield slack. 4 different head coaches with the Browns....1 with the Panthers.
Walsh's and Parcells's coaching trees were so much better than Belichicks
Andy Reid has a solid coaching tree too
And we know why. Those great coaches set up their disciples for success. But look at what we learned with the Josh McDaniel Colts unhiring. Belicheck had to lure McDaniels back with language in the contract stating that Bill will include Josh in the day-to-day preparations and operations from a head coach perspective. When I heard that, I was thinking "shouldn't the head coach be already doing that with his staff?"
The Patriots atmosphere is so guarded, so isolated, dare I say so paranoid, that Bill doesn't want any other person besides him to grasp the full picture.
Because Belichick is a product of Tom Brady
@@dcollins8718 Yeah because Tom Brady was the reason the patriots defense has ranked in the top ten every year Bill has been there. let me guess, you also think Tom Brady kicked all those game winning field goals and picked off Wilson in the end zone?
It’s not a mistake. Detroit needs it. They’ll get over it. This is just an eye opener for the team and realization of how good they are. Time for the players to make a decision if they want to keep riding the ship and be warriors or show your true colors and jump off the ship. That simple🤷♂️
Detroit fired the Black successful GM(drafted Suh, Stafford and Slay) and Coach(winning record in Detroit) for unproven Patriots.
Stay off my page lol 😂😂
When they’re not talking about teams they have biases for (Lebron, Cowboys, Aaron Rodgers), this show is enjoyable.
Matt Patrica is a bum coach go back to the Pat's
Lol Skip said Patricia is BB son and BB put him under his wing 😂😂 Skip a savage
Gimme a break. Matt Patricia cannot take that organization down any further as this team can only go up. This team has to start drafting a better QB and some field leaders. Only one pro bowler over the last 5 years if my memory serves me. These players have to understand they are seeing constant change due to the lack of wins. Why on earth would it be a problem to mimic a winning formula or atmosphere like New England. It may not work, but damn you have to start somewhere.
skillz4211 they were winning only one losing season in 4 seasons
@@kyj060792 but zero playoff wins. Thats what these shmucks fail to mention. Making the playoffs shouldnt be good enough. I dont care about history. I just want at least one playoff win.

@@da_jeezuss8922 zero playoff wins aint as bad as u mAking it sound they were a wild card team both times n only should of lost once
Jay King exactly they were definitely robbed in a few of those playoffs
I am not a huge fan of Patricia and the Pats coaching staff getting head coaching jobs.
But to be fair. The media said the same about Doug Pederson and ended up winning the super bowl.
But I’m not sure why former patriots assistant coaches just don’t work out as head coaches.
But he deserves a chance
Uhh I haven't watched undisputed in a while sooo where is joy
Eli Lennon she’s with Colin now
I miss joy on here.
She's gone man😢 #FuckColin
Skip does have a point. NFL teams would be wise to look harder at certain college coaches who have the head coaching experience rather than flying blind with an assistant in his first head coach gig.
If you cant beat Jets (pummeled) , you gone have BIG problems!
Ikr they Stafford made Jets look like the #1 Defense😂😂😂😂
Well the flaw in your comment is under estimating the jets, but they do have problems
Nyle Winston When any team keeps Sanchez they starting QB for multiple years? Yea, you can safely "underestimate" them!
na' ah mean? He was winning games they got rid of him as soon as he went downhill
He was riding on the back of one of the best defenses to ever take the field. He couldn't even "manage" the game well.
As a packers fan, I'd like to see the Patriots vs lions game on the 23rd
This game was terrible to listen to with the woman as the play by play person.
There was a woman doing the play by play?
Jtmr.16 yea it was awful
Always do the Shannon thing & turn the tv sound down... It's just better... Women on play by play is always terrible to listen to I'm with u on that.
Her and rex ryan i believe terrible duo
Bro she was the play by play in the Broncos week one opener last year no that crow caw when Von Miller sacked Rivers made me cringe 😫😖.
Btw Go Broncos Patriots suck 🤣
As an assistant everyone loved the fact he was scruffy looking, wore his hat backwards and had a pencil sticking out the side.
