  • Hello everyone welcomes back! This week I will be trying out the full range of Cotman watercolours by Windsor and Newton. I wouldn’t have normally bought this set but I managed to find it for a very low price and I thought they would be good for me to try on my channel. This set is marketed as a studio set for both professionals and beginners. I actually ended up liking this set a lot more than I thought I would. I can see myself Keeping it on my desk for when I want to do some sketch-booking.
To give them a good test I used them to paint a dragon. I wanted to give it a light pastel colour and I fund them easy to mix with this set.
Thank you for all the comments and likes for my last video, I would have addressed it in this one but it was already uploaded when I posted my last one reviewing the new kuretake paints. Still, I’m super grateful and I can’t wait to use them again! I can’t quite believe how well it has done and I am working on another video to continue the sea animal sketchbook! Thanks for all the great suggestions for animals I can add.
Thank you all for watching and have a lovely weekend! Please like and subscribe if you would like to support me! 😊

I used my WN Cotman colors for well over a year. I purchased 24 tubes and dried them up in 1/2 pans and loved using them! Sometimes you just want to have all the colors and just get into painting and not mix. Now I'm the total opposite, but I still enjoy all of my pre-made convenience mixtures!

No one “needs” more art supplies 😂. But they sure are nice to have…

I love that you put the swirl on the wings also on other parts of the body and on the face. Also the color palette is super nice. Beautiful :)

I cobbled together a complete set of Cotman watercolor pans a few years ago using 3 older WN field boxes and they became well used favorites. I've recently picked up a new 48 studio set of DR Aquafine that actually has 48 individual colors, no repeats that I like more.

I love the Cotman Watercolors, but I hate the cases that Winsor and Newton uses. I bought the 24 set, threw the case away, and used a metal case. Later, I added more colors that I wanted.

I’m impressed on the colour you got from these. When I was starting out in watercolour I bought a set of these but really struggled at reactivating them and get a nice saturated colour.

So from her artwork and her music, I'm guessing that she likes Zelda and Spyro.

I have a smaller set of cotman watercolours in a box like that one, and I would recommend caution traveling with it. I go back and forth between two countries pretty often and it does come with me, but the issue I've had is it getting banged around in my bag which caused MOST of the paints to pop out of the pans. You can pop them back it, but if you don't know what colour was supposed to go where, it makes it a little hard to identify the exact shade later without swatching it. Mine say the colour name on the pan, but... if you don't know what pan it went in, then you're sort of guessing, lol. They slot right back into the pans and stay within the palette when they fall out, but that 's my only grievance with them. Bang it around enough and they don't stay in the pans.
    Lovely dragon btw!

I love discovery your art in kuretake art nouveu set the rat was soooo cute, the dragoon is beautifull !!!
The packaging is the same as some white night sets , I have teh white night 36 colors I put double tape in the pans because they always end king glueing in the pallete when i open they are more wet pans than other brands.
A granulated dragon will be so amazing!!! just a sugestion.
Do you draw in the paper or you draw in other paper and transfer?
Do you have tips to paint metal? or recommend a book about mixing colors?
    good travel

this was great, thank you! oh, they are expensive in pounds, but oh, in euros... here in Germany i got mine (45 set) for around 52 euros and that was a "steal". but there are no double colours in it at least. hm. also, do you know the wonderful Sophie McPike here on youtube? she actually takes this set, which must have been gifted to her by a friend many, many years ago, with her when she is on retreats. so you're right, it's not too heavy and it's not too smudgy. :)
