i want to see the 6.5 grendel tested
Me too!
Me three!
Ditto!
22 arc, 224 valkyrie, 6 arc, and 6.5 grendel are the intermediate versions of the 308 family lol. Side by side, they're all hard to distinguish because they use the same parent case. I would love to see a head to head of all 4.
Me too
I sold the same rifle…the machine work in the action sucks it sounds like a zipper when you work the bolt and I sent it back to the factory once because the barrel was pinned to one side of the stock and there was thin blueing on the bolt
But, it is "Chicken Proofed" yet?
Haha!!! We must see it be “chicken proofed”
I’m telling Hornady that you didn’t hand load and test the ELDX at 300. You’re gonna be in so much trouble! @hornady get em Jayden!
😂
There goes your birthday!
We need a 6.5 Grendel vs 6ARC comparison!! Both are great especially in bolt gun platforms for deer hunting inside 300yds, 6ARC is definitely flatter shooting but 6.5 Grendel carries a better frontal area and more energy up close
X2
What is distance to energy cross over?
@@mgabriel2636using my 6.5 Grendel handload (120TTSX at 2525) vs Ryan’s 6ARC handload (80TTSX at 3080) my 6.5 Grendel has more energy at all distances but drops below 2000fps at 275yds vs Ryan’s 6ARC dropping below 2000 at 375yds, muzzle energy is nearly identical at 1699ft-lb for 6.5 Grendel, and 1685ft-lb for 6ARC, 6ARC wins in the drop category at all distances, it also wins in the windage category but only by .5in at 500yds in a 10mph cross wind
X3 That's exactly what I was going to say. I wouldn't trade my Grendel's for a 6mm but I suspect they will have similar results.
I have both of 6.5 Grendel and 6mm ARC. I haven't shot 6.5 Grendel again 😂
Yall need to get Jayden Q from Hornady on the show
If there's anything the world needs, it's more Hornady marketing nonsense
I’m so glad they came out with the 6mm ARC, my 243 won’t kill anything.
No partition. 😭
Beyond stoked to see Ryan's howa mini in action. The original video convinced me the mini in 6.5 grendel would be the perfect first deer rifle for my boy. Sometimes I wish I'd home 6 arc. I'm guessing the release of this video will only strengthen that wish.
I've never worked with Howa actions but it could be possible to just swap the barrel. It uses the same parent case as the 6.5 Grendel so the bolt is the same.
Mountains Mullets and Merica did a RUclips video on the 6Arc. Awesome job.
This was TREMENDOUS content, guys!
The timing of this video couldn’t have been better. Thank you for shooting at 300yds as well.
I’m a huge fan of Barnes, as Ryan is, however I would argue that the 90 LRX in the 6ARC at 300yds on game is not sufficient. Penetration was awesome but permanent and temp wouldn’t channels aren’t great. I like deer to drop as quickly as possible. I’m not confident a deer wouldn’t run a couple hundred yds on to my neighbors property with this combo.
90 TGK for me.
I just built a 6ARC gas gun. Loving it so far. I’m gonna have to buy a reloading setup just to be able to run the lighter projectiles.
You've arrived! Production team gets sweaty now! 😂🎉
Nice work Gents, great to see the tipped Gameking being tested, I use it in a 6.5 cm, is extremely accurate.
6mm creedmoor is a better comparison to 243, but if people want to know more about 6mm arc, Wade at TPH podcast has put out a ton of information
Im a fan of the 6 arc. I think its about as close to a Goldilocks hunting cartridge as one can get. From varmint with a 58 grain up to mule deer with 100+grain bullets, at reasonable distances.
I would have loved to see a hand load of the Hornady bullet.
Stop making me buy new things, my wallet can’t take it!
I love my 6ARC Howa mini 1500 w/ hand loads in 108ELDM's! (Inspired purchase from Ryan's video of the same action.)
Super fun. Kicks like club soda. Sitting on top is a Vortex Venom-nom-nom. :D
Yup I would definitely love to see a 6.5 grendel vs 6 arc comparison. 6 arc seems like a great little round, but if factory ammo is harder to find and more expensive, is it worth it?
Local store has 105gr BTHP for $40/box in 6 arc.
103gr eld-x are $45/box
I agree sir The highwayman is the greatest song ever!!!! Mark rulz!!
In addition to the efficiency of the 6ARC, one thing you forgot to mention is the typical rate of twist in a .243WIN will generally limit projectile options.
In saying that, the 80GR TTSX, 85GR TSX or a 100GR traditional soft point boat tail would be just about identical in performance to what you tested.
The plus side for a .243 is you can pick em up off the shelf just about anywhere.
My 6.5 Grendel with the 129 gr. Accubond LR is an awesome combo.
Ryan needs to go visit Texas predator hunting to talk about the 6 ARC with Wade for an hour or so 😂 then they need to go on a coyote hunt together with them!
Yes.
Don’t see the point in a bolt gun.6MM CREEDMORE IS ALOT BETTER
Would have liked to have seen the 80 gr and 90 CX in the testing.
I'll stick with the 243W cos i know i get 3250/3280 with 90 gr out of 24" barrel with H4831
Hello Vortex Nation, Mr. Muckenhirn just want to say u inspired me last year, I was in the mist of a custom build. An decided to build a 6 arc. Its a Zermatt origin with proof carbon 1:7.5 22" in a KRG bravo. I took a doe with an 95 gr VLD Berger last year. I have Recently have tested some 90CX with 31.1 gr of CFE223 velocity are avg 3042. I hope it preforms for me like the Barnes LRX y'all have tested. Still waiting on my Texas draw results but hoping to get a chance to get a mulie for the season. Wish you best of luck on yours.
I had a 243 now converted to 308.. My friends used to make fun of me for the 243 being a barrel burner... But really I only upped to 308, for the test of gunsmithing comprehension...😂
Gotta quit with all these wussified cartridges. There was a day when everything 243 & below were considered "the wife's rifle!" Bring the thunder!! 30-378, 7.82 warbird etc etc etc 😂😂😂
😮 Very few expenses were spared in the making of your video! That child size Howa, 😅 Seems like a great little truck gun...
The used car concept your trying to sell is a lemmon!!! It's extremely laughable terminology your spewing while doing this!!! True experienced hunters that have been doin it a long time can give you a very educational history lesson. Face it your not killing gel or paper!!!
Awesome video guys!! After seeing the video some months ago, where Ryan bought his Howa, I picked up a Howa Mini (not the carbon) also in 6ARC. It HATES the 80 grain ELD VTs, but shot the 75 grain Vmax into sub 1/2 minute on the first try. I’ve been waiting on this video to help decide on a big game bullet. Was leaning towards the 95 grain LRX and I think y’all confirmed it for me. Great job!!
Have you guys managed to get the Dreaded Belted Case with the AR yet? That is a learning curve the Grendel guys went through. Getting the pressure up and a little too much gas and odd things happen to that case. It looks like Hornady uses a thicker case wall near the base now, so maybe that will reduce the problem.
6mm creedmor. The podcasts with Forum give some compelling information that a small caliber would make more sense that th big stuff. Even for larger game like Elk.
Should shoot the gel at 600 yds and see.
I like the Barnes TTSX because it’s basically a blender going through the animal
6mm creedmor. The podcasts with Forum give some compelling information that a small caliber would make more sense that the big stuff. Even for larger game like Elk. The bullet selection and shot placement seems more important than the caliber. Steve from exomtn had zero issues taking a huge Caribou from 600yds
😂 Why the hell would a test of that cartridge through a bolt gun even be relevant?
Its terminal ballistics have been tested, appropriately for the comparison of how they compare to... Other semi-automatic loads.😂
Obviously both guns test ballistics but they are never going to be a measure of the relevance of 6 ARC's presence in the shooting world
Thanks for doing a deep dive on the 6mm ARC, especially on hand loads for hunting. It is a cartridge that really shines in bolt action rifles.
At the time Ryan bit this Carbon stocked Howa mini action, we talked and opted for the 6.5 Grendel. So glad to see his “results” as he has developed loads. Not being a hand loader I have to rely on factory Grendel loads. All good because this vid gives me confidence in the TGK and the LRX. Lovely… just lovely. 2:53
Any predictions if the 6mm ARC replace 556?
I hope you take the 6 arc or 22 arc and compare it to the creedmoor family in long and short barrels. Same bullets but using powders appropriate to the cartridge. Or just factory loads of same bullet.
Will the small cartridge that generally uses faster powders hold it velocity better than the larger/slower powder creedmoors in a short barrel?
I've got all of these loaded in a gas gun with an 18" Odin. GK and ttsx are primary loads. 2800ish with ttsx and 2890 on GK. Nose and lrx don't group as good for me.
Really need to try the Speer 100 SPBT they are incredible and very accurate out of my carbon stalker
Someone please explain how a bolt action 6 arc is stupid and pointless while a 223 bolt gun isn’t.
While everyone wants a long range round, I want a close range round, I’d like a spaghetti shoot out or a cartridge talks for a medium-large game cartridge for a shot that’s 100 yards and under.
After getting a 25wssm ive seen my 300wsm n 7wsm are not really needed for white tail atleast out to 300 yds the 115gr berger vld is devastating n 6 arc will be a good round for me since 25wssm ammo n brass is hard to find n the wife will love to shoot it just having a hard time on 6arc or 22arc
😮 admittedly I am a grumpy old a hole but it's good to see the new generation kids get the program... Good luck
I bought a gas gun as soon as I heard about this cartridge. I bought a match grade barrel. It’s so accurate that other than being way to heavy it’s a fantastic rifle. I’m waiting till Howa makes it in a 24 inch bolt gun before I buy a bolt gun.
The build quality of the rifle is not super high, but they shoot really well and extremely light. It's a dream mt. gun for deer.
I hand loaded the 103 eldx for a 20” Howa. Got it goin 2900 with leverevolution.
Can’t press like fast enough. Great topic.
Should have tested the cavity back bullets. Awesome bullets
Yeah, the heavies keep energy potential deeper into trajectory❤ That's what she said
You guys really need to add someone in that has a target shooting mindset. Shooting isn't all about hunting.
Awesome video, would love to see more of these style videos. Big fan of this channel.
😂 You can shoot 10x on 50 BMG for sniping purposes 🤫
Would like to have seen a ELDX reload at the higher speeds like the other bullets!
Love the video you guys make.. Please keep up with it..
“Cant have it both ways”
Really want use guys to test the terminal ascent!
I'm only 6 mins in, but I love all the bullet choices this far. 🎉😊
id like to see partition bullets added to the selection of bullets tested
I still think the 6 Max is a better gas gun round.
What Vortex Scope is that you are using ?
Got a Howa Carbon Stalker in 6ARC a few months ago, been a dream to shoot and I’m super impressed by the ballistics in this little package. Hoping to get to test it during deer season.
Same here. If you don't like the polymer trigger guard and magazine well, Jefferson makes an aluminum replacement. With scope and rings my Stalker only weighs 6 pounds total.
hows the howa treating you i wanted to pick one up but i heard of some issues they were having and decicided to hold off
@@lukeydukey15 ...Mines good. What issues?
@@lukeydukey15no issues on mine. I don’t love the cheap feel of the factory bottom metal/mag, and the bolt isn’t as smooth as I’d expect on a $1000 setup but everything has functioned great
I ve been waiting for this!!
I ve been waiting for this!!
I ve been waiting for this!!
I ve been waiting for this!!
You need to stop.
On one of your last episodes, you talked about getting into competition pistol and I just bought the Acer VR the day before that podcast.
Now...
I just bought my 75 year old father a Gen II Ruger American in 6 arc and you do a video on it! What!
I really feel like I'm on the Truman show. Oh, I also put in for a meatball question and for the dream hunt.
Love what you do over at Vortex 😊
That one of them Howa Minis?
Finally we will proof the 6 mm is a mammoth slayer. It does look like a fine deer cartridge.
100 Speer SPBT
YYYEEESSSS!!!
I have a 6ARC upper for my AR15 and it shoots 1/4-3/8 in groups at 100 with Hornady precision hunter and a savage axis that I put in a mdt oryx chassis that shoots about .75” groups at 100 with the same ammo. I wish someone made a regular old soft point for it because I’m not impressed with the precision hunters on deer.
I knew I should’ve gotten into reloading years ago🤦♂️
My son just shot his first buck with a 6 arc. 85 nosler partition and I was very impressed with that bullets terminal performance
Brand of upper or barrel?
@@mgabriel2636 no name upper, ballistic advantage barrel.
@@TherealBartcephus thnx
That Barnes 95gr LRX seems to be enough for elk.
Thoughts?
Maybe under good conditions for cows and smaller bulls... I like it but it just seems light to me 🤷♂️
I’m so excited about this one!
Thought it was Gona be “does rifle color matter”
I think the 6.5 grendel is better and everyone is sleeping on it! Maybe do a test on it soon!
Better is subjective
Do we get to see 500 yard gel ? Thanks for what you guys du !
Meh, I’ll stick with the tried and true 243 in a bolt gun.
bolt gun .243 no contest
Wish you would have used an eldm in your lineup.
Eld-x and Eld-m are the same except the eld-m has less copper bc it's not needed.
So the design is exact, just the difference is a little bit more copper on the eld-x
Eldx has a small lock ring and a thicker jacket. So yeah kindve but it’s a different design.
@@Honkers716I dont know where you get your information, but its wrong.
@@veteranironoutdoors8320 I got my info from Hornady, but go on
@@veteranironoutdoors8320 My source: ruclips.net/video/3GtAGEFWttk/видео.htmlsi=LrisGv5YAAPI0CfA
Hunting rifle, .243 hands down....proven, available ammo, multiple rifles chambered, feeds great, and standard bolt face. 6 ARC...not proven, very limited ammo, very few rifles, odd bolt face, and hit or miss feeding.
.243 is a hammer. A fast twist .243 would be my ultimate do everything rifle. 108 eldx hand loaded to 3100fps.
It’s called 6mm creedmoor
@@msquared9605 that's crazy, I didn't know a creedmore would chamber a 308 headed case. That's crazy.....
243 is, has and always will be more relevant in America than a need more cartridge. Check the numbers
@@tonkatank045 yep, 6mm creedmoor is what you’re actually looking for
@@msquared9605 no it's not.
I still don’t get the 6 ARC in a bolt action
Rifle… I mean, it’s the best caliber going in an AR15 right now, IMO. But, in a bolt rifle, there are so many better options, to include its step-father, the .243 Win!
Efficiency. Less powder, smaller and lighter rifle and still kills dead. I've used mine on Antelope, muleys and white tail with great results
18 to 20 grs less powder even less recoil more efficient cartridge design you can actually shoot a 6 arc farther because the twist on the 243 doesn't stabilize the high bc bullets. t
if the 243 was updated to a 8 twist it would be a different story but it's not.
This was such a good test. It makes me think better things for my arc.
