pidders is the most skilfull
Lovely my dear! Thank you so much !
He didn't pull him, he was letting him know he was there. And the FDJ rider didn't even complain
His name is Ramon Sinkeldam, and he specifically said afterwards it was fair play
7:35 Exactly, it was touch to let know his presence. Competitor had no reason to seek that leftmost position, if moving forward.
He save a horrible crash
looked more pushing than pulling, seemed fair and might have prevented a crash
I hate delusional people. Where Did he pull him. Who could say such a thing when a man is fighting that hard for an honest win.
If this video was 2hrs long id still watch and rewatch and rewatch it. What a legend.
Yeah, REALLY well produced.
Can never go wrong with that group of Riders.
The best generation of bikers ever.
HenryJones-u8t wtf is Epke Zonderland & Jeffry Herlings :D
He is just goodbro. Its the storyteller that did a great job
Same! I’m only 7mins in and been watching for 40mins!
"Because I was cold" Still the most incredible answer om the question "Why did you jump so early?"
I thought he was gonna be like 💩💩😂😂😂
I love the double meaning of it, haha
Anyone who's ever ridden in miserable conditions can totally relate. When your clothes are soaked to the skin, and your hands are so cold you can't be sure you're holding the handlebars, you have a lot of motivation to get home.
My first century back in the 90s, I didn’t bring enough clothes so I welcomed every climb as a chance to get out of the saddle and generate some heat with less wind chill.
For the controversy around 7:20 I would say that I didn't actually see him pull, instead I saw his hand go up and then sideways, into the FDJ rider's side, in order to make sure that the rider knew he was there are if he kept going they both would likely go down, so it may have helped them both stay in the race.
The FDJ rider has a name: Ramon van Sinkeldam. The defending champion that year. He himself said Mathieu fairly beat him.
Part of the problem is the bend in the finishing straight.
@peterpatatosthat's not his name. He's called raymond sinkeldam.
@drunkensailor112 Ha we're both wrong, sorry I wrote this quickly.
It's Ramon Sinkeldam.
@peterpatatos ah lol. Double bad
But back on topic: Sinkeldam would have pushed MvdP into the barriers if Mathieu hadn't signaled him with his hand. Pure self preservation. No controversy at the time and no controversy now. Such a shame you feel like you need to smudge this 'typical' great MvdP victory.
What makes him unique is his enormous capacity to recover during a race. So even when he has attacked, he's still able to win a sprint a little later.
A one in a generation talent with a kind heart and a good moral compass. Enjoy him while you still can.
i dont know a thing about professional cycling but i loved this documentary! thanks!
Toughest guys in the world
I know little to none about road cycling but i the emotions came trough watching him ascending to glory!
Same here
He grandpa was a legend but he is been way better
hahaha same here haha i only watched MTB and DH for the last 30years....i think i missed out on something
Absolute animal, sustaining wattages that would kill a mere human. Brilliant cycling filmmaking & narration.
@psd9850 you aint too bright, u need to look up how many watts of toaster uses
@Jojo-o6o6w 2 minutes at 1000 watts?
@psd9850 glad to see you know how to google..so now do you see how you are wrong?
@psd9850 You are only proving his point.
"It is estimated that over 700 people around the world are killed each year as a result of toaster fires and electrocutions."
@psd9850 "Yet, he can't even..."
So, you can?
Great job on yet another cycling documentary. Always glad to see your videos pop up.
Thank you 🙏
@RIFIANBOYwhy have someone else narrate for you
@lukask2597
What's wrong with somebody else narrating for him?
Isn't that what reporters do, narrate for the media?
Who came back rewatch this after Tour De France 2025 attack on Stage 9? :) He is a beast!
I am a UCI National Commissaire and what I saw in the sprint was Van der Poel preventing a bad crash and protecting himself and the other rider. I do not see that as a reason to penalize him.
That 60km/h attack on the cobbles of Roubaix tho…absolute animal.
But there is one other thing that he does brilliantly-the leadouts for Philipsen at last year’s Tour were a joy to watch.
And what about at Milan-San Remo? Fantastic!
Poulidor is smiling from that great peloton in the sky.
I’m a tall, overweight, older man that cycles 2-3 times a week. Ive never been remotely close to being a competitive cyclist. I’ve never followed professional cycling. But the algorithm showed me your videos because of my searches for bicycle related content. And now I watch your content all of the time because it is the BEST cycling content I’ve ever seen! Thank you for the work you do!
I’d wager my left nut that I’m a fatter fuck than even you. And I totally agree. Great content. I’m not into cycling but I like fit men in tights.
Indeed
I’m a tall, overweight, older man that cycles 2-3 times a month. I've never been remotely close to being a competitive cyclist, but I grew up in Holland and have watched Joop Zoetemelk, Gerrie Knetemans and Peter Winnen since my early school years. Mathieu VDP & Wout vA to me are the most incredible cyclists ever. Not winning a grand tour on GC, but immense powerhouses with endless fighting spirit and team ethic. Chapeau to both
What a great comment, mate!
I'm pretty sure Mathieu Van Der Poel just signaled the FDJ rider that he'd pass, he didn't actually pull the FDJ rider, but simply alerted the FDJ rider that he'd pass from the left side, and he needed to alert the FDJ rider since he was pretty close to the barrier
7:50 rubbing is racing imho. You want to block the racing line then expect someone to make room.
Agreed that move was unnecessary to hold his position he didnt need to cut to the left to be in front of van der poel he would have held it better staying straight instead he FAFO 😂
Sagan checks out
He’s the closest to Sagan that got me excited about the world tour again.
This was the one of the best documentaries of cycling that I have ever seen, great video as well as montage, as well as explaining the short story of absolute legend cyclist.
I would say not one of the best, But the best
He looks like such a monster on the bike, I love watching him open up and send it.
Crazy thing is that despite everything MVDP has done, he's still only 29. He has 10 more years, 5 of which in peak form, to amaze us even more. The Netherlands is in the golden era of sporting athletes with Jeffrey Herlings, Max Verstappen, MVDP, Femke Bol, van Gerwen etc. It's good to be alive as a Dutch sportsfan!
the netherlands has always been in a golden era of sports.
Harrie Lavreysen
typically 27-30 is peak. 34 is already gonna start to dip.....crap i just turned 34
@chriswitek9455 Nah. You're still good for a few more years. I only started to feel a very slight dip from peak when i turned 38. And that's because of other life factors.
It's probably just a change in lifestyle and diet for you.
Try to analyze what you were doing then that made you feel you were at top condition.
You got this.
@chriswitek9455top athletes like van der Poel can keep their peak for much longer than others. If he stays motivated, he can reach Valverde’s age range and still be competitive.
Strade '21 was possibly the most beautiful race I ever saw. What a field, what pictures, what winner❤
Rob Hatch will forever be my favorite announcer for that call and that call alone. Long live MvdP!!!
I hope many many people will have a chance to see this video, one if not THE best cycling documentary out there!
I appreciate it.
Agree man!
The funniest sh*t even in pro cycling is that wout van aert's face hasn't ever changed. I guess he was full grown already right after the birth
That is incorrect. Wout even though he is older used to be smaller and less muscular than Mathieu van der Poel until they hit their twenties. He grew a bit taller and became a lot stronger. So Wout changed a lot over the years.
Dry
Brooo fix Ur spelling
@SameSemu Ok, I'm sorry I apologise please forgive me master
@tadziu2400 I am Ur master siuuuuuuuùu
I knew what happened already in all these races... but the way you made this video, the suspense was like watching everything for the first time. Brilliant!
that boy ride that bike like she said her parents left for the weekend
One of the best videos about todays professional cycling with Mathieu van der Poel's best wins ever. Year's after still enjoying his amazing attacks. he's GREAT
Ja, mooi hè. ❤
Every time I need motivation I watch this video, it's a privilege to see these great athletes.
The touch on the sprint he did was amazingly gentile, he didn't even push. The other guy never complained about it. I love the documentary, but I'm sure Mathieu shocked the world as well when he almost won his first World Championships in 2019 and when he knocked himself out of the Tokyo mountain bike race. And the way he won the Tour de France stage that got him the yellow jersey by going early which no one realised is definitely missing. However: great video, thank you very much! So for me, it should be 10 (and counting, of course).
His Dancing and Sprinting position is a work of art.
Fantastic. I only occasionally follow professional cycling, but this story of Van Der Poel was truly epic. Thank you for this documentary.
OMG the little MVP and little Wout picture just killed me!!! ❤😭
What a time to be alive, as a cycling fan, and as a Dutch cycling fan in particular.
I absolutely love his attitude and sportsmanship on top of his sporting excellence! Such a cool dude!
That win in Amstel is Legendary!!
That hand touch was totally legit, he didn't shove, he didn't pull, he simply let that ride know that he was there on his left.
Best cycling documentaries on youtube!
that was a "hey im here don't push me into the barrier" love tap. and doing that in a sprint is crazy
What a wonderful documentary made for free on RUclips :)
He won a fantastic race yesterday in Milan San Remo
I am comparatively new as a viewer of professional cycling, your videos are just too good. Almost feels like crying when they win, you make their success feels mine. Amazing job Rifianboy..❤
One of the best cycling videos ever.❤
The endless loops of ups and downs, left and right, drains the body and the mind!!!
Mathieu ability to go SO deep is his super power
as a cycling nut, these documentaries are absolute gold for us
as a belgian he is still one of my favourite riders, he gives so much joy to us fans
I remember seeing Amstel Gold Race in 2019. My jaw dropped and eyes popped I can surely tell. What a legendary race.
that slam he took on that right turn was nasty you know thats gunna hurt in the morning
Finally! Another documentary. ❤
Can’t believe I actually almost listened to half of this.
You can add last Saturday's Milan-San Remo to the list. 🙂
Amstel 2019 is one of the most spectacular efforts ever.
Long time no see you RifianBoy! We miss you!
I was hoping to finish this video by early March, but I never get things done on schedule 😅
The helicopter shot in sienna is so epic
6:00 seeing Mathieu riding and winning on the roads I used to live and play is engraved in my memory. And we had many memorable victories on those streets. My 1st goes back to Jan Raas winning the world championship on that road in 1979 when I was just 8 years old.
This guy is a legend, plain and simple
Gives me goosebumps every fricking time!!
What an exceptional Athlete! Superb documentary!
Man, the quality of this video and your who channel is just amazing, keep up the great work!
Thanks, will do!
National geographic should hire you@RIFIANBOY
A monument legend...
Only a grand tour is missing...
The FDJ rider didn't even complain when mvdp did that, and he didn''t pull him he just tapped him to let him know that he was passing by to his left.
7:23 nice littel and there to push the guy who sprinted off his line lol
Third generation rider.. crazy genetics
True, but so is his far less succesful brother ... showing it's not just a matter of hitting the genetic jackpot
Taken my eye off the ball over last couple of years re Pro Cycling. Just watched this in total disbelief.... Gob smacked 😮
Dutch national championships controversy looked like a example of phenomenal bike handling skills and cunning. FDJ rider unsportsmenly tries to close the door instead of go toe to toe with Vanderpoel. Taking a hand off the bars going very fast in a frantic sprint and staying upright is a extreme show of skill. He alerts the rider he wants past but the rider keeps closing the door. So Vanderpoel puts his hand back on the bar and in text book passing form physically nudges the rider out of the way which is what he deserved by the looks of it to me. Amazing neither wet down, again a amazing show of skill by Vanderpoel. I don't think there was a thing wrong with Vanderpoel's actions. The FDJ rider knew what he was doing.
Ive watch this 4 times now, i know ill watch again. Pogacar in 4/29/25 is the GOAT
This dude is a beast. Great video.
I love the narrator story delivery..
wonderful. Please post an epic one on Van Vleuten or Van der Breggen!
And now you can add the 8th outstanding performance showing Pogi that he rules San Remo
Nice production, thanks. Good showcase for people not even being into raod cycling what it is all about.
7:32 I think he was just tapping like “hey, don’t kill me, I’m here”😂
Wow, what a great video.
So well done.
Many many thnx for this ! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Absolutely amazing video! What a great watch!
Van der Poel is a beast!
Dude has a motor with an RPM unmatched.
Great job on this cycling documentary!
17:45 he was just taking a short breather before his final attack!
Sheesh this one gives me goosebumps
Nice one! I did miss the yellow jersey he got in the tour with attacking twice, that was an absolute epic moment, a moment I had tears in my eyes.
That’s where his granddad was looking down with tears of pride :)
Such a well made video. Thank you for your incredible work!
Thank you for this majestic video!
Love that red white and blue.
LOOK at VDP in the last seconds - in NO way did he pull or shove ANYONE ! VDP simply guarded his lane to make sure the other rider didn't push him into the barrier. NO foul play whatsoever !
This guy is from another planet
This guy is the only reason I watch cycling on road and field. Powerhouse.
The boy just goes, ... and find gripp everywhere!
A power of 1300W would burn a normal human being🔥🔥🔥
Looks like he has an Super saiyan inside him he's using it when it needed 😤🔥🔥🔥
The controvery at 7:42 looks to me like the guy in the white/red shirt is giving the guy in the white/blue shirt a notice that he is even there but the guy in the white/blue dosent want to let him pass so he leans all the way over to block him even more. His whole back is not in a "normal" position to me.
I think that his biggest quality is that he can recover way better and more quick then his colleagues, next to all his other excellent qualities. Mentally he is very strong too.
Love it! Awesome production and narrative.
I never would have known about a legend like him if not for this documentary. Thank you
what a guy !
“It’s Roy of the Rovers stuff for Mathieu van der Poel!” I had to look that up.
That 2019 amstel gold win will go down in history as one of the greatest ever races and by far the best I've seen
Chapeau sir
HenryJones-u8tFEMKE BOL, and by god: SIFAN HASSAN craziest athlete worldwide. Speedskating ladies also. The list goes on and on
Pogi is insane, out of this world
But watching MVDP ride is pure art
Wout and Mathieu are worth eachotter no matter how you turn it . They both big champions !
en zo is het!
@patricks5232 Think bigger bud , think much bigger !
@patricks5232 Wout is also a killer. He has won so much. But he is just a little less able on steep climbs, where he tends to lose most on MvdP. Also in the sprint, Wout is excellent but sadly for him MvdP can match that when it matters it seems. So MvdP is just even a slightly bigger talent than Wout is, but it is still so close. Thank God, we have seen how boring it gets without Wout like this first half of the season.
Every time they end up in the lead group together, no matter which of them wins, you know you're watching an epic race.
It’s always heartwarming when a competitor congratulates the victor after a great race and close finish.
I’m so glad the algorithm started recommending cycling videos out of the blue.
For sure an exceptional talent. Lovely to watch such a class act on display at his very best!
Such a good video!! I loved it!
Glad you enjoyed it.
8:30 i know the feeling i can do it too sometimes xd. it's like you can manually give yourself so much adrenaline that you don't feel any fatigue at all and feel like a superman for a certain period, there are no walls that u can't go through in that moment, but it can be hard to recover from tho.
In the championship race the rider in blue clearly left the line, so MVDP was justified
