Are we witnessing the early years of Krillin?
no, early years of Omi
Or possibly a love child between th- ... Uh-oh.
So Krillin started out as a caveman with super head powers who'd spent his life struggling to survive in a daunting and unfamiliar city of anti-physics? Lol
This was also my first thought when I saw that bald headed little bastard in his orange outfit.
But it's definitely not Krillin, because he hasn't died yet.
Matthew Miller The love child between you and Setsuna?
Dear Grumps! PLEASE play this one all the way through! I was beyond excited to see this come up in my feed as this was one of my favorite childhood games growing up! So excited!!
I love their reaction to this game. Whenever I feel like I need a good laugh, I know I can always count on this playthrough.
"I HAVE SOME SORT OF DISEASE!!"
that will never not be funny to me
There's just SO MUCH shit happening in this game, it's ridiculous!
Their reactions to this game is just what I expected as soon as I saw the thumbnail. I fucking love Super Bonk.
Turbografx was a failure in America due to poor marketing, but it certainly wasn't a failure in Japan. It was very successful, actually.
I have a PC-Engine (original name for the Turbografx-16 in Japan) with the CD module and the Briefcase interface module. It's a wonderful little system, also home to arguably the best Castlevania game ever made.
More fun facts:
- The PC Engine itself was the smallest home console ever made. The thing is the size of a CD Jewel case.
- The PC Engine was also the first console to have a CD add-on.
- Hudson Soft developed the format that the cards for the PC Engine/Turbografx-16 used, hence why they're called "Hucards" (They were called Turbo Chips in the US
- Bonk was called PC Genjin in Japan, a parody on the name PC Engine.
PC Engine also came out a couple years earlier in Japan, primarily going up against the aging Famicom. As the "16-bit" systems go it's kind of weak, but compared to the Famicom/NES it's a big improvement.
I think I've got about 10 games for mine, most recently picked up Bomberman '93, PC Genjin and Gradius. I can't say I've found a whole lot of games I'm interested in on the system so far...
Yea, i don't think of it as a 16-bit system so much as an 8-bit system with a really good GPU. I think that's another point that led to the TG-16's lack of success in the US, it was marketed as a 16-bit powerhouse when it really wasn't one, and it came out too late in the 16-bit era to really make a difference over here. There were still plenty of cool releases for it though.
Depending on what games you're into there's a lot of good games for both the PC-Engine and TG-16. Moreso on the PC-Engine side of things both in terms of releases as well as aftermarket prices. I heartily recommend the Ys series if you like RPG's or Adventure games. As mentioned earlier Dracula X: Rondo of Blood is arguably one of the best Castlevania games ever made (although it isn't cheap). There are also TONS of SHMUPS for the PC-Engine. It's primarily what it was known for.
chapsy1983 Yeah, Rondo of Blood is expensive, though. (I know I could just burn a copy if I got the CD system, and I *have* played it on emulation... But I do like to get the authentic experience) Not having the CD system limits my options for sure.
Do you have a PC Engine or TG-16? PC-Engine hardware usually goes for a little cheaper than the TG-16 stuff since they're still pretty common in Japan. Games are still expensive depending on what you get though. My Rondo of Blood was $120 lol. You should see what Sapphire goes for.
chapsy1983
I got a white PCE. In retrospect I wish I'd held out for a Core Grafx or something, it's a pain having to plug into the expansion port just for composite...
reminder that someone out there checks game grumps videos every day at the same time just to instantly dislike the second its uploaded
I like to pretend it's the same cockchafers that make the comments for steam wallet codes with links to scam and malware sites then use bot alts to max the comment to prevent replies and upvote it, that way I don't have to dilute my disgust and hatred across several sources.
Wait... there is a max to the number of comment replies a comment can have?
You guys know that it's bot's right? People program bots to dislike videos because reasons.
solaceinrage Those guys are LEGIT! I mean, why w0uldnt y0u trust s0me0ne wh0 uses zer0s as their o's?
Canadian Food That's purely a guess on my part, but it looks that way. They make the post then like instantaneously it becomes a string of 3-10 bot accounts with everything from "Great" to "agjkh3ru knerim" because they were too lazy to even pretend it wasn't a bot and needed text in the input field. Always like 25 I think, then the reply option isn't available to any comment in that chain.
THINGS THAT MAKE A PLATFORMER WAY TOO CONFUSING FOR ARIN TO HANDLE:
1. Powerups that make you grow.
2. An antithesis of sorts to that powerup that makes you shrink.
3. Powerups that allow you to shoot projectiles.
4. Powerups that make you invincible while you flash many colors.
Man, imagine how he'd react to Super Mario Bros.
that wasn't the confusion
he's confuse because of the animation
also bonus stages and enemies disguised as helpful items. good thing no other game has those.
I feel that, at this point, people are hating Arin just to hate Arin.
Dagda Mor They sound like hipsters...
That makes no fuckin sense.
They should rename the comment section to the complaint section
it's a loud minority. most people don't even comment because they enjoy the content.
This is the first time I looked at the comments because of how insane and goofy this game is and I gotta say, I'm going back to never looking at the comments again...
Hypervizzle I do.
I mean you can leave a complaint in the complaint box but I DON'T CHECK THAT SHIT! (⌐■_■)
Revisiting this game because of the compilation they made about weird games, who's with me?
Same!!
I'm from the compilation compilation
I guess we could say that this game is *bonkers*...
No, that's a different game. But those Capcom-Disney games tend to be pretty good...
Scope-Eye video
Bonkers sucks though, much like the cartoon it's based on.
MarsGundam
That did seem like a distinct possibility... I haven't played it, though, so I can't say.
***** Embrace the puns. Let the puns live trough you. *You are the pun!*
DAMMMM
OH MY FUCKING GOD, I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS SHIT
it's oficial, pokemon will never be finished
rip pokemon
murdered by bonk
G. Rowlithe Nyndeenyn Nothing would make me happier.
Fialinhow I wouldn't be surprised if the grumps are planning an elaborate april fool's day prank which will result in the pokemon finale! like maybe the thumbnail of the video is Superman 64 or something, but its actually pokemon.
WAtch your words
Watch your laugage
Never heard of this game! I feel the GameGrumps is an educational channel for me! :)
Projared reviewed it recently. ~
I have heard of this game.
Hooray for me.
***** I don't know who that is lol.
***** Well you just learned something new!...Wow...This channel is educational
***** Someone from Normalboots. He was on GG once..And Jon does videos for NB.
I have a lot of fond memories with Bonk - Thanks for playing this.
that moment when Bonk grabbed the wall with his teeth, his face had me tears. XD
My mother got stolen from me and eaten.
Why the fuck do I keep seeing you
Who the fuck even are you
And why is it that fuck autocorrects to duck
Nick LeMay He's a duck.
Nick LeMay Stop giving him attention then. You're part of the trolling problem.
Vincentiusify And A Duck is a troll becaaaauuse?
8:49
What does Bonk have that is big?
*AHEAD*.
You're welcome for that master piece of comedy right there, folks.
G. Rowlithe Nyndeenyn stop it
brightnoa21 Never.
G. Rowlithe Nyndeenyn *Ba dum tss*
G. Rowlithe Nyndeenyn that's right, never stop!
I CAN NOT believe you guys played this game. My brother and I grew up playing this game and no one had ever heard of it. I'm so glad you guys liked it. We had so much fun playing it. Thanks for bringing up great memories.
Slowly growing delight from both of the grumps toward Super Bonk warms my heart. I adored this game.
This is absolutely hilarious to watch after seeing Jared's video on Super Bonk. Knowing the madness they are falling into is immensely entertaining
Dan got the "Next time on Game Grumps" exactly at the @10:00 mark.
I'm so proud. 😂
"You rock, you roll, oh yeah! I'm gonna take a stroll."
I laughed SO much harder than I should have at that.
I love how they say, "This game is very Japanese." and the level is named China Town.
In the Japanese version, the level is in fact taking place in Japan.
And the Eiffel Tower was originally Tokyo Tower.
Arin: ...How is this not more a thing?
Dan: You mean, "How is this not more popular?"
YOU GUYS UNDERSTAND
As a former TurboGrafx-16 owner, I am TOUCHED
Arin: "Did I do good?"
Game: "Nah"
I freaking love this game, no lie. It was one of my first LPs, as well. But I will say this... They're not finishing it. It gets really difficult toward the end, and given Arin doesn't seem to understand a single item or move thus far, I have no hope. lol But it'll be funny while it lasts, I'm sure.
So way back in the 90s and maybe early 2000s, airlines would get games from Nintendo to be available in-flight. There was Mario and a few other ones, and then there was this one.
Super Bonk was my FAVOURITE in-flight game. It's completely kooky and I don't think I ever managed to finish it because I kept getting stuck on one particular level. But omg this brings back memories.
Alternately named "Krillin's Misadventures With LSD"
Aptly named!
I'd give Dan a Super Bonk
But he already has the game. They're playing it right now.
G. Rowlithe Nyndeenyn Boy, that just went WAY over your head didn't it?
My Name Doesn't Matter I can't believe how ironic this is. Just think about it.
Juan Manuel Maldonado Peña Exactly.
G. Rowlithe Nyndeenyn Alright little one I think it's past your bed time.
This game is a part of my childhood! I'm so happy that you guys are playing it! :D
Not gonna lie, after yesterday's finale of PunchOut, I was kinda expecting the trauma center finale. Nnnnnnnnnnoooope, just a new series to add to the list..
wake full CRANNNBERRIES
Nah, Trauma Center is freaking boring.
Hooded Streetmonk Cranberry Center is not boring how dare you, with jelly floored hallways and emo doctors you can find fun in abundance.
MrSumbody69
I feel like you may have suffered severe brain cranberry at some point.
Or I'm not getting a reference.
MrSumbody69 The only Cranberries I care about, is the band with the same name. The Cranberries.
Dude, excellent! I remember playing this when I was super young! Nice to see you guys play it!
I've wanted this so much since ProJared's review. This is gonna be an awesome playthrough.
This game looks really fun to play with a group of friends, honestly.
6:36
Sounds like he ordered water at Milton's Milton Factory
Knew I recognized that voice from somewhere
Wow. Dan hit 10 minutes on the dot. Congrats, man!
Holy fuck, you're right!
Our little boy is growing up.
Shi9k So proud. *manly tears*
Who is that, Krillin's lost sibling!?
The face when Bonk is that weird monster thing and looks up is so hilarious to me.
For every bad day I have, the Grumps are always there.
Cheers Grumps.
The kid looks like Omi from Xiaolin Showdown. I gotta go back and watch that show again...
"I'd fuck a lamp." -Arin Hanson 2015
When arins said sunlight when they where talking about the cloud trees lmao
Did I do it!
Nah
I was laughing so hard
Danny got it perfect this time, good job. 10:00
TENOUTTATEN
Does anybody else get tired of seeing seeing the same people in the comments for every video?
With as many subscribers as the Grumps have, you would think you would never see the same person twice in the comments.
Yeah! Why are you here!
Just kidding i love you bby
idk bro, i like to see all these dudes as ur friendly neighbors that u talk to on the way to work. cause, y'know, half of the people on this street are constantly orgasming anime woman and/or animals
A lot of people, like me up until recently, don't comment or like things. But sometimes I feel my input is needed, so I comment.
Never seen you before. Please to meet'cha!
CrystalJadeOrb #porchdick
I played bonk on the gameboy a ton as a kid. Didn't even know this existed, bonk for Gameboy was so unique and creative and a blast to playthrough. I never played anything else like it, it needs more love as a series in general and I'm glad I know of this incredible gem of a series.
Man, I totally remember playing a version of Bonk on the GameBoy Color!
It used to be one of my favorite games to play when I visited my cousin.
What a memory trip!
I don't want to be that guy, but where the hell is the Pokemon finale?
Being grinded to level up shitty lvl 50s b/c all the experience was drained on Buntd,
Knurttt needs to get buffed
Well now you are that guy who pointed out how annoying his own post was yet still posted
Where is Hotline Miami?
Jhun Hoon If its gonna be like the last play through, no thanks.
No Dog Island?
I'm so glad that they're doing this game in parts. I had a good laugh. 😂
Super Bonk is one of the games I played a LOT as a kid. This game is so damn good, I hope you guys play it through.
7nd
That's not possible.
Geometry Dash Agent 2319st
PS: that number is signifigant in some way. Whoever can figure it out gets 2319 brownie points.
Liters Nanbars yeah we got a 2319 in here
yep he has a sock stuck on him..
not phunny ass fucker
warthogger14 Correct! Do you prefer delivery of your points by hot air balloon, or a brownie recipe encoded in trinary reflected off of the moon?
PS: Sorry for the delayed reply; I couldn't view my inbox yesterday for some reason.
So... Pro Jared reviews this and then GameGrumps immediately starts playing it?
Jake A and projared was on grumpcade so its established that they know each other?
Jake A coincidence? i think NOT!
so?
_A month between Jared's review upload and this video's upload._
"immediately"
Well, jon did reveiw barbie games for his latest reveiw, and grep started playing a barbie game soooooooo............
Bonk on the NES was one of my first games I ever played when I was 3 and I love that game to this day and still occasionally play it. I'm so glad they are playing a Bonk game even though I havnt played this one.
Definitely used to play this on Virgin Atlantic flights in the mid 90s. So much weird, weird fun.
Wow guys this is amazing
JUST KIDDING WHERE IS POKEMON FINALE
play dog island
just sayin
Unicornstalk i know. they did twice i think already.
Elsie Fisher just sayin
At first, I wasn't entirely sure about this one. After about 5 minutes of watching, I am now excited for the next episode just to see how many animations of this guy exist.
"Dude, you got this!"
"Do I?"
"I mean, unless you fuck it up!"
Goddammit, I love Dan
"Take my flower".
-Arin, 2015
Gotta love out of context quotes.
So am I the only one that's gonna give Danny props for getting the "next time on game grumps" literally at exactly 10 mins? Way to go Dan. You finally did it lol
This game was also on the super famicom. On that version when you go near the duck lady she says "exuse me" in English. And when you bonk her she says "have a nice day!" Also in English.
I just love the reactions to all the power ups in the beginning.
This is the type of introductory game that Egoraptor loves.
2:34 is my favorite!!
Arin: What the fuck is happening-- I'M SORRY
Dan: No, you're angry
I love that he said next time on game grumps RIGHT AT 10:00. So satisfying
My dad got me this game when I was 9 and I love it. It's very old school in the sense that there's no real explanation of things and you learn to play as you go along to strange places. It's super fucking obscure but awesome.
It doesn't take too long to beat so this might be a short play through.
I actually had this game when I was a child. No one really knew about it. I'm so happy that you guys played it. I knew every single way and every part of the game it's really good. I had it when I was about 6 years old (so young) on the computer and then my brother bought the SNES version for me later. It is incredibly weird but for me it has nostalgia and charm! Please continue there are a bunch of levels ahead and even bosses that I think you would enjoy!! ^-^
Did anyone else notice that when Dan said "Next time on Game Grumps" it was exactly at the 10 minute mark? XD
I suspect either Barry or Kevin have some dealings in this magic.
I played the hell out of Bonk's Adventure for the Game Boy, which was very similar. I loved that game. One of my favorite things is I think a good thing to pick up on in terms of game design, while the game is super floaty and weird compared to your average platformer, they're always throwing those minigames at you. The minigames encourage you to learn the engine and practice certain mechanics, like low or high jumps, extending jumps by flipping, those fiddly climbing mechanics, and so on. It's a way of teaching you the game as you play the game, as well as giving extra incentive for mastery.
Oooh man, Bonk. I remember reading about this in a gamer magazine when I was a kid. I think I still have it somewhere. It was an interesting magazine. I remember they covered the unofficial NES game, Chiller, as well.
The first game grumps series I ever watched.
The first I watched was sonic 06 with jontron
Bonk has three forms and three sizes and uses different abilities depending on his size and form. Abilities are used by pressing the X button on the game pad. Each ability use costs smiley faces, which Bonk collects throughout the stages.
All three forms of Small Bonk can use "RAGE!" where Bonk shoots out the letters which move across the screen horizontally until they hit something; each collision destroys a letter. Bonk can ride the rage and use it to kill enemies.
Medium Bonk is best for attacking while avoiding damage. Chicken Bonk shoots arrows that petrify enemies as do his ground head-slams. Monster Bonk tongue whips enemies and I think can kill nearby enemies with a ground head-slam.
Large Bonk is good for taking out large groups of enemies and is just plain fun to play. Normal Bonk has the ability to through his head by pressing X. Chicken Bonk has the ability to lay an explosive egg by pressing X. Monster Bonk has the ability to turn invisible and invulnerable after holding X for a short time.
Gameplay tips:
You can wall jump with headbutts.
Blue hearts increase your max health.
Mini games are there to give you more smilies.
It is very rare that you will just fall off screen and die. Most of the time you are moved to a mini-level that you have to complete to get back to the main stage.
Upgrades to move from Normal Bonk to Chicken Bonk and Monster Bonk are held in Orange Bounce Flowers.
Red Bounce Flowers will give you fruit and hearts but sometimes hold green enemies.
This Game is as fun as it is weird, I hope you guys enjoy and at least reach the second boss.
Ok, "I don't know what just stole me from the world," Is a pretty hilarious quote, but while still typing this comment, I'm still laughing over how funny "Dan! Save me!" was XD
Oh man, I totally forgot about this game! But watching them play it is bringing back all of the memories.
LOVED THIS GAME AS A KID
I really enjoy this series already!!!
I haven't seen this game before, but I have seen other Bonk games, and I've heard this one is the best of the series.
3:39
Bonk has become the 9-tailed Kyuubi.
I love Danny's laugh so much!
I love how this game only takes 30 min to beat. But i have a feeling this will take 10+ episodes to beat. Just a feeling
Anybody watching this play through a second time through, at 3 minutes in all you can think is "oh just wait boys, this ride is about to get a whole lot more interesting"
I will not rest until they have played every single Bonk game to completion.
Yes, even Air Zonk.
Oh, Super Bonk. Watching people play you for the first time is always entertaining.
This was the first Souls game.
"What the fuck is even going on?!" "I didn't know I could do that!" "Holy what the fuck in A Duck!?"
This game became ten times better when I imagined Bonk is actually Krillin as a kid before he left to train under Master Roshi.
Geez. One of the first things I saw when I discovered the wonderful world of Let's Plays many years ago was a playthrough of Super Bonk. So I guess I'm used to the weirdness already. Ah, memories.
This was my favorite game to play as a kid in the SNES so thanks for playin it ya gewfs
I remember playing the original bonk. I seriously loved that whacky game
I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THIS GAME FOR AGES! CHILDHOOD RELIVED!
I played so much Bonk when I was a kid.
As obscure as this game is I remember playing it on what seemed to be a snes on a singapore airlines flight when I was young... what a nostalgia hit
17:21.... that's literally the mgs 3 low health sound
3:18 Oh, it looks like Jack Frost smiling. X3
Those sleeping flower things look very Castle Crashers-esque when they're jumped on.
Came over here from the retro games comp that came out yesterday and SO MANY THINGS ARE HAPPENING IN THE FIRST LEVEL HOLY SHIT
10:12 That was a brilliant idea Dan ;D
Fuck yeah, had this game as a little kid.. so underrated.
Your face when you realize they made upside-down Mario. He hurts with his head instead of his feet, but they left all the growing nonsense and flashing invincibility in.
This is a great game. Be prepared for a dinosaur house, a trip through a creature's body, a pyramid on the moon, and even a space crab battle.
