I doing a violin audition today, and I keep plucking and playing extra strings and it sounds bad, so this helped immensely. I have been playing for a couple years, and My dumb brain realized I kept sliding down the finger board
I hate when that happens, crunching with time on violin! but what do I know, I'm not very good technically (yet?) ... and majored in piano before I played violin and switched ultimately in the end probably. You've really got to be together on such an instrument! it seems. I also have been singing a lot these past years alone and used to be in church choirs since age 8 until college mostly. ... You know, I used to have to play music for masses learned on that day I think, know violinists are good with new music? I was in high school then, too, but oh it was fake book style is why!
Thanks for your great video. I am just learning violin, and I have noticed, that it's easier to aim at the desired string if bowing with the farthest part of the bow (closer to tip). While it does not yield the best sound, the lever is longer, thus the bow angle is more stable, also while the arm is more extended the anlge is better felt by the muscles, it gets sort of more obvious and easier to get used to and to remember. Also, when the arm is extended, the only means of controling angle is elbow, no chance to do it wrong (wrist, for example). When I excercise, I first start bowing like that, then slowly progress to the middle of the bow. The arm gets used to correct angle, and it gets better. )

I’m fairly new to violin. About a couple of months in. The issue I’m having is I run more into the strings when I place fingers down on open strings for another note. Any guidance for this please. Thank you.

Thank you so much! How do you jiggle/move your fingers while holding down on a note? I'm two weeks in and working on my second song. I want to do this to make it sound pretty, but my fingers say no. Would you happen to have any tips, and what is this called? Thank you
I see what you're saying, but do you think it's a bad idea to intentionally play closer to the fingerboard to make it more of a challenge, and thus maybe make your bow arm even neater?
How can I play the suite no.1 of Bach without playing two strings at the beginning, its a matter of practice or it requires some kind if technique? Anyway, great lesson, thank you

Glad you liked it! And you are right, much easier to play close the the tip. But remember to practice in all locations, near the frog as well!
Bless this video, thank you so much!!

Sure thing!
I struggled with this on bass and the same thing worked
That really helped me thank youu
That's great to know!
Good advice!! When I am practicing and I hit another string, even before I saw this video, I’d say out loud to myself, stay in your own lane. 😂❤️😃LOL
On Paganini can make scratchy sounds sound good
Well, to certain limit that's ok. Of course, music should come out anyway :)
Wowsome! Thank youuuuu! From India!!!!!!!
You're welcome!
Thanks

Are you talking about a "glissando" or a "slide"?
do you recommend tilting the violin when playing the different string other than what you had mentioned? Thank you
Do we only play single strings all the time of do we also play two strings together sometimes ?
Good question! And the answer is YES, definitively. You can also play 3 or even 4 strings at the same time on the violin.
I see what you're saying, but do you think it's a bad idea to intentionally play closer to the fingerboard to make it more of a challenge, and thus maybe make your bow arm even neater?

another tip is to not have your bow dropping, make sure you tighten it hard

Hi
Teacher I ♥ you, cause you are the simplest explainer but I am a dumb 😔
I've been playing violin since I was 10. Why did no one ever tell me this
I just can't keep it straight all the time even when I have it where it needs to be
You can ask for help to Lora on this videos' dedicated page on VSM: www.virtualsheetmusic.com/experts/lora/hitting/
Can a blind person manage to play violin
Yes, that should be possible.
No make another video with the SAME TITLE but talking about the LEFT HAND FINGERS hitting more than one string.
