The original G9 is firmware locked on HDMI because it's 2.0 (no refresh option). In this case the best scenario I've found for consoles is run them at 4k with the 27" screen option so it's downsampling. You get the improvement of higher render resolution, but you don't have the stretching. For the Neo, HDMI 2.1 will allow 144hz with VRR full res on PC so I would assume it should allow 4k 120 with VRR on the consoles. I haven't seen it done yet though.
@@DocValentino Also, just an FYI. The reason why it allows you to select 4K is because most HDR monitors/displays that are HDR, regardless of their resolution will accept a 4k image. Some sources, in this case Xbox will only dish out HDR in 4K. Another little tech tip, you need to allow both 4k and HDR in the Xbox to get HDR. You don't have to have 4k set up as your resolution, once HDR is dished, it'll auto select 4K.
I just found your channel while researching wide monitors for consoles and I have to say your videos are great! Very informative and to the point keep up the great work!
Very nice video dude! Do you know if is possible to get 120 hz at 1440p with that hdmi 2.0 in PBP mode or any other screen size? I have the same monitor and I would like to buy the Xbox One Series X. Im a casual gamer, but get 120 FPS at 1440p it's a key to me. Best regards!
If you set you console res to 4K, it will fill out the screen with a lot less stretching. I am surprised no one mentioned this in the comments. I saw that on super ultrawide a couple years ago running HDMI 2.0
I will double check on that tomorrow, but I have my doubts. The aspect ratio for 4K is still 16:9, just with more pixels. The stretching would be the same, but with a little crispier image. I’ll be posting a video tomorrow comparing Forza Horizon 5 on XSX vs PC on this monitor.

Hey Doc, how you doin ? I got the newer version of the g9 49" but it only seems to either do 16:9 or 32:9. Am I just doing something wrong or do the newer versions just not do anything else than these two aspects.
Thanks for doing this! I've watched about every one of the G9 & Neo videos out there about 100 times trying to problem solve. I am not sure if you have any advise but I am running the G9 Neo, witha MacBook pro off of the display port (display to usb-c cable), and a PS5 off of the HDMI. It all works totally fine until I go PIP. When I do go PIP, I lose a lot of color. The colors go dull for some reason and I've tried every combination with no solution. Any ideas?
Hmmm... that doesn't sound good. I'm not sure. I have never had any color issues when going to PIP. It also appears that many of the settings aren't able to be adjusted when in PIP (at least on my model). The only setting that you may be able to mess with is the contrast under PIP. Mine is at 75 | 75.

Really appreciated this as I was having issues with the G9, options via the screen are confusing combined with the xbox settings and game dependent. The 60 hz lock seemed odd but as you say pc 240 np. TY👍
The 60Hz lock is due to the input on this monitor being HDMI 2.0. The new G9 Neo monitor has an HDMI 2.1 input, and should allow higher display frequencies. When using the displayport with PC, you can go up to 240Hz.
With this converter I was able to output 1440p @120Hz from the XSX, and I could set the monitor all the way up to 240Hz! This is the product link: amzn.to/3KhRuYr ... I am an Amazon Associate so I have to disclose that I make commissions (very very little) off of affiliate links.

Thank you for the question. It can, but the picture will be stretched, or you will have black bars on the sides. I did a previous video here ruclips.net/video/0lKULUJqzfQ/видео.html
Yeah seems too wide for console games that aren't optimized. But like you said the 21:9 is pretty decent. I'd like to see you make more videos like this but with the 21:9 monitor, where you have a cam showing the monitor instead of screen recording, and mess with different games on console.
I just the LG ultra gear oled but I’m playing on Xbox series x and it’s showing that my current resolution is 2560x1440p, how do I get it to 3440x1440? Or is that not possible on Xbox?
You can technically use ultrawide on Xbox, but it is not fully supported yet, as far as I'm aware of, so you cannot use the full resolution of 3440x1440p.
On this particular Odyssey model.. not without an HDMI to DisplayPort adapter like the one in this video ruclips.net/video/Q8nXo551_GY/видео.html. This is because the HDMI input on the model I have is limited to 60Hz. The Neo model should support 120Hz on the HDMI input. Thank you for the question. I hope this helps.
When playing XSX as one HDMI source with borders on the side, it will output 4K at 60Hz... the monitor is 1440p, so the 4K output from the XSX will display to you at 1440p and is capped at 60Hz on the monitor (even if the console was outputting 120Hz). When playing in split screen mode with two sources into the monitor, the XSX resolution setting for 4K is ghosted out and it will output 1440p at 60Hz. This is also capped at 60Hz on the monitor. The split screen scenario is where XSX has an advantage over PS5, in that the PS5 will output 1080p when it can't output 2160p, but the XSX can natively output 1440p, giving you a better resolution in split screen mode. The 60Hz lock is due to the input on this monitor being HDMI 2.0. The new G9 Neo monitor has an HDMI 2.1 input, and should allow higher display frequencies. When using the displayport with PC, you can go up to 240Hz on this monitor.

People do want wider formats and higher frames. Stretching a picture, and degrading its quality in the process, is far from evolution, though. It’s simply consoles not keeping up with it, which is unfortunate.
Thank you, I appreciate it. To answer your question.. Not with consoles on this monitor because of the limitations on the HDMI input. Yep.. it's doesn't look good if your playing it with a stretched image. Gameplay seems more difficult as well. You're best off changing the aspect ratio to use only the center of the screen or PIP with another input on one side of the screen. When I play my Xbox Series X or PS5, I have my PC up on one side of the screen with the console gameplay up on the other side with all of the audio running through my GoXLR so I can have music or videos playing in my headset from my PC while also getting my gameplay audio from my console.
