Once when I was a kid, during the big drop of the ride, my hat flew straight off my head. When we got to the bottom of the drop I turned around to tell my dad that I lost my hat, and my brother who sat right behind me gave it to me. Apparently his hands were straight up and the hat just flew straight into his hands. It was hilarious, especially when we saw the photo for it.
I had a similar experience!! Someone in front of me had a hat that flew off during the drop, and I had my hands up holding my GoPro. The cap flew back and got caught on the GoPro 😂
I too had a similar experience. Except it wasn’t a hat, but vomit. The kid in front of me had eaten too many churros and drank way too much coke. At least that’s what it tasted like 🤭🤢 🤮
I would be stoked if during Halloween they transform the Mardi gras theme into a Dr Facilier friends from the other side Halloween theme, imagine the neon lights and voodoo dolls all over the ride?! It would also be awesome if the whole ride smells like beignets.
One of my high school English teachers offered extra credit to our class if we took a picture reading or pretending to read The Great Gatsby in a place you wouldn’t expect to be reading. Naturally, I brought my Great Gatsby book into Disneyland and pretended to read while going down the drop on Splash Mountain. Best extra credit I ever got
@@UCRfZb91nX-triozNmzvaRrA what do you mean "if"? They've already decided that they're going to retheme it. At any rate, I know I'm still going to ride it; it's going to be a combination of my favorite ride and my favorite movie.
"I would go on splash mountain, over and over again at nighttime just because I could and no one else wanted to." This quote really hit home for me. RIP Splash Mt water smell.
@@thejosesarangoproject5700 It might be disturbed because of the construction though, just for a little bit. The new paint and wood or whatever might drown it out for a short period of time
I always got scared on this ride even though I loved it lol I could never ride alone at night. Once a cast member stuck their hand out of the curtain by the bottom of the conveyer belt to freak my friends and I out (it’s a favorite memory)
@@RyanM95 My guess is that they are probably going to use the same songs but change the lyrics a little to fit the situation! (Also ray the firefly is most likely going to be in the sky as a star at the end of the ride.
I think is should be the end of dig a little deeper! I watched the movie again the other day and at the end of the song the scenery looks so cool and I think they’ll put that at the end of the drop
In the Florida version, there's a gopher in the ceiling in one room that pops out and goes "FSU", which is for Florida State University, the Alma Mater of one of the designers. Unless you're in the first seat when you go underneath him, you may not hear him, but even then he's hard to hear with everything else that's going on, especially if you don't know what he's saying. Hope they keep him in the refurb. He'd be a nice little nod to the original.
I remember hearing that years ago and thought he just said FU. I figured it was similar to the whole Little Mermaid VHS debacle where someone got a little too cheeky.
@@Taijifufu I've never been to a Disney park, let alone the one in Florida. How I know it is through TPM as they did a video on Splash Mountain which contained the bit about the gopher. And yeah, you're right, I thought he was saying FU at first too. But after hearing the clip a few times, you start to hear the S.
my favorite memory ever of splash mountain was getting stuck after the drop near the entrance of the final scene. cast members were making announcements asking a man to put his shirt on. this went on for like 15 minuets until they got another cast member to repeat the message in portugese, spanish and i think french. then the ride started moving again. i still wonder what that shirtless man is up to now.
@@sovereigneve4360 Yes, they did it for Mr. Toad after the ride was turned to Winnie the Pooh. While it may be Morbid, it would be a fitting memorial for a dead ride. Also they could do it in both Disney Land and WDW.
yesss!! it would totally fit in with new orleans square in disneyland, and imagine how pretty the indoor theming would be!!!!! the jazz music and the crystal chandeliers!!!!!! and don’t even get me started on the amazing new orleans culture and food that would make the restaurant so special!!!
"I would go on splash mountain, over and over again at nighttime just because I could and no one else wanted to." the first time i went to florida, that was my favourite memory of wdw as a whole, just running through the empty queues at night hits different 😞
Eisner was good only because he had a bunch of people surrounding him that knew what they were doing. HE didnt do anything spectacular during that time. When these people left, he nearly bankrupted the company again with poor ideas and poor planning. Theres euro disney; tokyo disney; disneys chuck e cheese knockoffs; mgm studios; etc.
My favorite memories are always the ride photos, my brother has Down Syndrome so his reactions in the photos are ALWAYS the most genuine, and hilarious expressions. We have a couple of the splash mountain theme frames that you can buy when you get your photos.
I went to Walt Disney World with my family a couple years back, and we went on splash mountain. Just as the log was dropping down, my mom poured a full water bottle on my dads head who was sitting in front of her as a joke. My dad assumed the water had come from the ride, and my mom and I were laughing our guts out 😂😂 it was all in the spirit of fun #goodmemory
i’m sad because splash mountain was my favorite as a kid, but i can’t say i didn’t see this coming. it was closed or broke down the last couple times i went to WDW. but, i love princess and the frog! the music and atmosphere deserves to get a proper spot in WDW, besides just some rooms in port orléans! super excited for this!
Exactly, splash mountain needed some kind of refurbishment or update because it already wasn’t in the best condition. Sure it didn’t need to be a full retheming, but no matter how beloved a theme park ride is, they don’t stay in peak condition forever. People would likely be upset at any kind of change because of how iconic the ride is. Personally I think the retheming has the potential to look really cool and I think it should be given a chance.
I'm not opposed to the re-theming of Splash Mountain, I just feel right now isn't the best time given the current situation with all the riots going on. I would personally wait until things simmer down before the parks start re-theming.
I would have preferred a refurbishment of the original ride, and if it’s such a problem they could change the ‘controversial’ aspects while they’re at it. This change doesn’t make much sense given how unpopular Princess and the Frog is compared to other animated movies.
General Jimmies Well they just announced it was gonna happen, the ride in general won’t be done until probably two or three years , by that time everything may be over
Condolences on your loss. I pray you find the will and strength to push through this tragedy. Of course the fact that the actual “ride” isn’t going anywhere should provide some solace. Maybe try riding with your eyes closed and use your imagination. 🙄
Darth Syphilis I cant tell if that’s entirely a jab at that comment being made about the movie, or if there’s some truth to it, irregardless it’s a really wasted opportunity if the drop isn’t being dragged down by the shadows like Dr. Facilier
I wouldn't exactly call this my "favorite" memory, but the first memory that comes to mind when I think of Splash Mountain is when the ride stopped at the very top of the big drop. And no, it was NOT because it broke down. It stopped because a woman (who was sitting right in front of my dad and I) was freaking out that her kids were going to fly out of the log. Apparently she didn't take all the warning signs in the line seriously. The cast members working on that ride came out to help her and her kids out the log. After they all went through the Exit door, a few minutes passed and Splash Mountain continued right where it left. Going straight down with no extra prep time; that part was really fun!!!!
I hope the new ride has the movies main villain. He was the most intresting part of the movie and not including him or the chacters in the frog form might just be boring.
It all really depends. The ride is supposed to take place after the movie so he should be dead. Unless they find some way to deus ex machina his way into the story I would say no.
@@mint2574 true but that may be the wrong way to go. Having the chacters just getting ready for Marti grads sounds incredibly boring. And without the voodoo guy and the light bug i cant see this ride getting postive things said about it.
epic ninja sensei dinosaur puppet you’re absolutely correct. But it seems that’s what they’re going with. Honestly I still think giving a completely new ride is a much better idea. Like compare a ride like smugglers run to the guardians of the galaxy ride. A better comparison is that upcoming beauty and the beast ride compared to frozen ever after. Even though the rides can be fun the first time you can see the drop in quality or “magic” the ride gives.
I would love it if as you’re going up the final dark tunnel, they have voodoo masks flashing on and off and you hear Facilier’s voice singing the “Are you ready?” part from Friends on the Other Side.
My favorite splash mountain moment when when I went to Disney world in April one time, nobody was on the line so my brother and I rode it like 8 times in a row. On the last run they were starting the night fireworks show, and when we reached the top the fireworks went off. It was beautiful. At least I still have my Splash Mountain t-shirt...
I'm actually so excited about the update. While I am a bit sad that Splash Mountain as we know it will be no more, as I have some incredibly fond memories of riding it over and over again at night as you do, I think this update brings with it some long overdue recognition for Princess and the Frog. This film was the last feature length 2D animated film from Disney, and it is by far one of their most immersive, musically gorgeous, and contains one of their most interesting plot lines in recent years. The fact that Tiana, the first black Disney princess, is going to have a ride based around her awesome story is thrilling for me, and I am sure it will have an even greater impact on black children everywhere. Representation is vital to a progressive society, and the fact that Disney is going to retheme one of their most iconic rides for film for the sake of progress is honestly so cool. I mean, it took them long enough, but it's a step in the right direction!
Technically, the last Disney 2D animation movie was The Winnie the Pooh Movie, but considering the fact that it bombed at the box office and was quickly forgotten, I can see why people refer to PatF as the last 2D movie lol
I think tearing down something iconic for the sake of being progressive is unfair and bad business. PATF was a very solid film, but it wasn't even a hit.
@@manofmainstreet1503 Apparently they had this in the works for the while, whether that's true or not, given that the re-theme isn't due for a while I'd both believe it and guess that they took advantage of the current political climate to boost it. Nothing but a good business move in my eyes; free publicity. Besides, it's Disney : if they were pc enough over the redhead in Pirate's then don't be surprised to see stuff like this being in the works. Disney's gonna Disney.
@@manofmainstreet1503 no one riding Splash Mountain has even watched Song of the South in its entirety. At least people have seen The Princess and the Frog. And it's _not_ being torn down and will continue to be iconic, probably more so.
My favorite parts in Splash Mountain: 1. The music 2. The animatronics 3. The story 4. The Briar Patch Drop! 5. Leaving the ride every time happy and humming the tunes in my memories! As disappointed as I am hearing this beloved ride of my childhood getting a revamp I agree that I am excited to see what they will pull off this time. Cause it's been mentioned again and again- change is often times a good thing and those moments we've shared together in the past will always, always hold special places in our hearts and never be forgotten. I may not get to visit Magic Kingdom's Splash Mountain before it closes; but I know for a fact that the three times I've visited and rode it have been nothing but the BEST moments of my Disney vacations! It'll always be missed by me.
Ok but what if it is like a Mardi Gras theme at the beginning, and then dr facilier and the shadows come back and mess everything up. That way it still takes place after the movie, but we could get the “are you ready” part of friends on the other side before the big drop.
My boyfriend and I were talking about it and one of the things he was worried about was a name change. I personally don’t think they will change the name because it seems like it’s going to be such a similar ride but I do think they will add a tagline to it like “journey through the bayou” or something with Tiana and maybe even Louise name in there.
I hope we've all moved past the angry/disbelieving stage of the change and onto the very excited/still sad stage at this point. It's certainly sad to see Splash go, but the POTENTIAL Frog Mountain has to be absolutely phenomenal is so so so exciting to me.
That retheme of tower of terror pissed me off. What was wrong with twilight zone?oh yeah not as profitable as the Marvel comics universe. Disney has become an intensely greedy money-hungry whore and they are destroying the magic.
@Derrek Dickerson yes, on the note of world war II, Donald Duck wearing a swastika. I don't think I can ever look at Donald without getting that image in my head...
For someone who's seen povs of it, I thought it was decent. Still dosen't compare to the twilight zone tower of terror in terms of the physical sets and actual in-ride theming, but at least it looks like a worthy successor.
@@dontunder2005 Yeah, millions of people like it. But as someone who went to Tower of Terror on opening week, loves the Twilight Zone movies and has a nostalgic connection to the ride and it's spooky aesthetic, seeing it get mutated into some random popular superhero movie as it's theme was like disney ripping my heart out stomping on it. I used to get an annual pass every year since 9th grade with my friends, but I refuse to spend any money on disney since then.
I'm sad, but part of Walt Disney's vision for Disneyland was that he wanted to constantly keep the park relevant and updated for the new genaerations. I hope they at least keep some aspects of Splash mountain , and maybe have a frog humming zippidy doo da or something like that as a nod to the original ride.
He wouldn't have wanted Song of the South buried so far deep down that it can't see the light of day, and neither would he have wanted Pirates of the Caribbean to turn into Boys Scouts of the Caribbean.
Walt is dead and the idea that Disneyland will never be finished died along with him. Sorry to say but Disneyland was technically finished in 1995 after Indiana Jones opened. There is nothing wrong with keeping Disneyland the same or bringing back old attractions as if they never left. What's going to happen? Disneyland would go bankrupt and close down? Because if you think that, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale you might be interested in. The only guests who matter are the purists. Sorry but there shouldn't be any new generations. When I seize Disney in a hostile takeover and make it great again, I will be catering only to the purists.
Zipeeedeedoda comes from a pre civil war song titled Zip Coon. Its a minstrel show song. Please stop celebrating it. Please stop asking for it to be left in the parks.
Ill never forget riding this on acid. How wild it felt going through the laughing place with all the critters laughing under giant colorful glowing mushrooms. Very very awesome. Glad I got to have that experience before they change it.
LEGENDD! It's honestly on my bucket list of shit to do, i'm terrified i'll either psych myself out and freak out, or do something else dumb af and get busted. Some day. How'd you do it? I'd love to hear your tale, man
So many memories on SM. It was a ride that didn’t scare my little boys. We always tried to out do each other with creative poses for the drop photo. The best, was having to walk off the ride behind the scenes when the ride broke down. Love Splash forever.
last time i was in magic kingdom, it was on a school trip for my gifted class. i didn’t really get to enjoy the ride because i was sitting next to my friend who was TERRIFIED of the drop so i was comforting her the whole time, but as the drop was about to happen, i looked up and could see the whole park at night and it was so gorgeous. that’s one of my favorite memories of splash mountain
Honestly I think the magical bayou setting will just enhance riding the new version at night. Sure it’s not the same but I think it’ll be beautiful at least. There’s definitely potential!
Even though the ride story is set after the events of the first film I’m still hoping that characters like Facilier is in the the area before the last drop as I think it would be kind of strange to make such a happy go lucky ride and then still have a gigantic drop at the end which for many people was a scary ride because the drop is intimidating. It’d be nice to still have a sense of dread. If it isn’t Facilier then maybe the closest thing is that one scene where those alligators attacked Tiana and Naveen. Maybe they try to intercept your boat or something. It doesn’t even have to be Dr Facilier it can just be the spirits that helped him. Still I’m going to miss those vultures talking about how it’s too late for us to turn around. They were my favorites
I was sad and still am when America Sings closed but glad most of those animitronics were repurposed on splash. Also i was a ride operator in the mid 80s when slash mountain was being built and was amazed how the builders made the mountain rocks (over on some unused area of the property)...basically they used a model cut out onto numbered pieces where a craftsman would then create a lifesize wireframe of that piece, cover it with the fake rock shell, then take it to the build site and fit it in to its numbered place.
If they do any screens I'll be pissed. We need cute audio animatronics. I probably won't get to go on it 1 last time. I don't live close by and well the park is still closed....
I agree. I've always loved going on it at night, during fantasmic, while there is no line. To be honest I'm most concerned about Winnie the pooh and the gift shop. We could always rename that little section Pooh Corner.
Probably my favorite time going on splash mountain was when I got my own log to myself and when I went down the giant drop and fantasmic was going on and i saw Mickey and I yelled out “hey Mickey.” And he pointed and waved at me.
Hyperskreem 82 no, I mean after the giant drop lol. I was already down it, and that’s when I yelled “hey Mickey.” Pretty awesome that I got my own log and he heard me. He did wave and point.
Sanchezzyy 55 dude splash mountain is not that close to the rivers of America. And Fantasmic is so ridiculously loud, there’s literally no possible way that Mickey heard you. You’re delusional.
I'm starting to remember what channels you watch, it honestly makes me happy seeing one user, among the billions on youtube, routinely come up in the comments and through and through has something witty to say. You're almost a content creator yourself in a weirdly objective way. Keep commenting dude! :)
"This tale happened once upon a time. Not your time, nor yet my time.... but one time." Loved reading the wood signs that would have a sentence or two telling the "story" of the ride as you got deeper and deeper into the mountain. That really was a great way to set the scene and really immerse guests into the ride. And as you left the ride the last one said, "you can't run away from trouble.... ain't no place that far."
My favorite memory of Splash Mountain is when everyone would get so excited to ride, but I was always to scared. And I would pray that the wait would be too long...and the wait time would be like 3 hrs long...and I’d just say “oh man maybe next time” and everyone would be sad, but secretly I was so happy cause I didn’t have to ride it. And I’ve been doing that for 10 years, and never have had to courage to ride it. Lol.
splash mountain has been my favorite ride at the magic kingdom since i was a kid, but i am super excited to see the new retheming as i loveee the princess and the frog!! not all change is a bad thing ❤️
Juliana Licciardi but, change just to be seen as woke is no change at all. Disney planned to change this ride for years, but just now decided to pretend that they are socially relevant and at the forefront of social progress. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.....
s 123 it sure is a good time! Chicago has more shootings in a single day then the “old west” had in an entire year between 1825 and 1917. Private property and constitutionally protected rights are being ignored on a scale not seen since before 1866. The Republic has divided itself along two distinct political parties. The collective States in our Union have lost more individual distinctiveness and autonomy in the past ten years than at anytime in the past 233 years. Foreign Nations have successfully infiltrated and are presently creating division and strife amongst our citizenry. Mob rule is becoming more mainstream and norm. Media is slanted far right or far left in its reporting of news, all news is presented with a spin or degradation of someone’s character. Police departments (the group that stops criminals from doing criminal things on a massive scale just because they exist) are being cut across the Nation. Our woke political leaders and major corporations are placating to fringe movements and internet petitions to immediately change names of cities, forts, rivers, mountains and schools. ALL this while our Nations enemies (yes, enemies) laugh at us and are just waiting for this country to explode. So ya, it’s a great time, just like it was a great time immediately before the Roman Empire fell. It was also a great time in 1860/1861 right before the American Civil War started. It was a great time in Germany right before a certain bad guy started a World War in 1939. You can take your great time now and enjoy it, because what follows is not so great and it comes on very quickly.
Mike L dude i just made a comment about my excitement for a ride at a theme park and you had to go and write a whole ass essay that no one is gonna read. say something that pertains to the video topic at hand or leave pls✌️
My favorite memory of splash mountain is when me and my family were at Disneyland me and my family are from Washington state. and it started to sprinkle no big deal for us.We were in Main Street USA and it was a mass exodus of guests towards the exit. We were like okay it’s raining big deal. But as we were walking to fantasyland it became a torrential downpour! And areas were flooding slightly the rain was insane! We went on splash mountain and they let us go on over and over and nobody was in the line. I mean 0 people were in line! The water rose high in the ride and my older brother that was in the front seat every slight drop from the kiddie dips would completely cover the front of the cart and he would have a cascade of water on him. And the Brar bear when he’s hanging above the water his entire lower half would dip into the water!! It was amazing!!
My kids basically grew up on this ride, my kids used to sing How Do You Do, with slightly different lyrics, I'm very sad that Splash Mountain won't be Splash Mountain anymore.
I remember my first time riding it and had no idea what to expect. I was used to Six Flags and just assumed you went up one side and down the hill. What a nice surprise it turned into and quickly became my favorite ride. I hate that they're changing it. I don't think they can top what they already have in Splash Mountain.
I’m so sad it’s changing! Especially because a few people thought it was directly about song of the south, even though it only had the characters Brer Bear, Brer Rabbit, and Brer Fox. It didn’t show uncle Remus or have any stereotypes.... so I’ll be sad that it’s gone, especially because it had an amazing soundtrack! I am excited for the new one though because the Princess And the Frog is one of my favorite movies, only thing I’m confused about is how that will fit into the theming of *Critter* country.
@@TECfan1 Because it existed. It is a part of the U.S.' history. I know this is going to come as a shock to people, but the entirety of history is not nice. And it's not just U.S. history, either. Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. This is why we need to have honest conversations about it. Yes, the stereotype about Uncle Remus and some of the characters isn't pretty to a modern society. But that doesn't overwrite all the good about them either. We can look to the past, acknowledge it happened, and look at the present to see how far we've come. We as a society can't go around changing every little minutia about something because someone, somewhere, was offended. Spoiler alert: everything is offensive to at least one person. Laurel had the right idea. The ride is already sanitized enough as is. It didn't need to be changed. I would like to see a permanent Princess and the Frog ride. I don't necessarily want an overlay of Splash Mountain, though. Too much time and energy to that. It's POTC all over again. I went to Disneyland several times as a kid. At no point did I think the pirates were the good people. I understood their behavior was morally reprehensible and not to be emulated; but that's probably because my parents did their job as parents and taught me right from wrong.
I’ve been at this channel since the beginning and any other ride re theme that you have gone over I have not been mad about. Example guardians I love that ride, but them taking away splash mountain doesn’t make me angry it makes me sad and I’m not overly exited for the re theme
The real concern is whether or not the ride gets the frozen ever after treatment where there isn’t really a captivating story and it’s just more or less a barren sing along.
My favorite memory is getting to ride it before it was open to the public. As an employee when it opened I got to ride it prior to opening. Neil Patrick Harris was in the log in front of me.
My favorite memory of Splash Mountain is from August last year at Disneyland, it was during a Fantasmic show so the line was nonexistent and it was just me and my sister on our own log. As we reach the bottom of the big fall, we literally make direct eye contact with one of the Fantasmic monkeys on their float and he starts waving at us-- my sister and I start laugh-screaming because it was so unexpected and the timing was so perfect!
If I had to say what my favorite memory on Splash Mountain would be, it would have to be the ride, atmosphere, and story that all combine to make a great story telling ride. I'm super sad my favorite ride is going, but it's two quotes from Walt Disney and Marty Sklar that's keeping me a little ok with this. Marty Sklar said, "Disneyland isn't a museum" and Walt Disney said ,"Disneyland will never be completed." And I remember he said, "The thing will get more beautiful every year, and we'll keep plussing stuff" I understand Disneyland is changing all the time, and I just needed to be reminded of that, I hope the new ride can stand up to my expectations, other than that, thanks.
I'm sorry but Walt and Marty are dead and the idea that "Disneyland will never be completed" died along with Walt. Disneyland was officially completed in 1995 after Indiana Jones. After I seize Disney in a hostile takeover, that quote is getting tossed to the dustbin of history. "What Would Walt Do?" will be the guiding mantra under my rule at Disney like it was after his death and the answer to that question is "Make Disney Great Again." I'll be the Donald Trump Disney needs to make it great again. Disney can survive on its name alone and will be doing so under my rule. I will also be catering only to the Disney purists or "master guests." Another mantra that I will replace "Disneyland will never be complete" with is P.T. Barnum's "There's a sucker born every minute."
Because some people don't want the ride to be changed regardless of the racial problems of Song of the South. The argument, which is kinda weak, is indifference = racism, which I think barely anyone is actually making.
They're calling them racist because they think the ride inheritly has racist themes because it is based off of Song of the South. Splash Mountain only shares the animated segments of thr movie minus the Tar Baby scene to where it is reduced to singing and dancing animals. It is almost divorced from the movie except for the songs as well as Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox and Brer Bear. I think the people who are making acquisitions of racism have never even rode Splash Mountain to begin with.
because in this world if you like something that was based off something racist you're a racist even if thats not always true. It's just kinda social bullshit we have in our world.
No one is calling the people sad about it “racist”, it’s those who are being absurdly angry, childish, and insulting about the situation who are being called “racist”. Disney rethemes/removes/modifies rides all the time, yet here we are seeing people being vehemently angry about it being changed to Princess and the Frog as opposed to lamenting the loss of the theme.
@@ChicoDiamante I am pretty sure that racism is something else than "being absurdly angry, childish, and insulting" about something. Please don't lower the bar for the use of that term any further than it already has. Racism is a serious problem and not just a curse word.
I grew up reading Brer Rabbit stories and because of that Splash Mountain has always been one of my favourite rides. I know some people have issues with the movie but many of the things people complain about aren't in the ride. I'm very sad to see this go since it's pretty much the last modern reference to one of my favourite characters.
I think the main issue is that the ride is based off of material that Disney themselves banned long ago for obvious reasons. The movie is racist and having a ride based on that in today’s climate is just not a great idea, even if most of the problems aren’t featured in the ride. That being said, it’s a timeless and iconic attraction so it’s perfectly okay to be sad about its departure. I do think the PATF version will be fantastic though, especially since Tony Baxter is working on it.
Noah S I’m honestly annoyed Tony Baxter is actually *Okay* with changing his own ride. Splash Mountain was a classic just the way it is! And thanks to Political Correctness Supporters, we lost a classic ride. If I was Tony Baxter, I would have told the people who complained about my ride and the Imagineers who are agreeing to change it to f**k the heck off!
DisneyLover129 but it’s good that they are changing it bc even though all the racist things are in Song of the south, (and they don’t show it ANYWHERE bc they hate that they made it) they don’t want people to feel as though black people aren’t “as good as white people”, thus changing it to something that gives a whole story about how we are al equal, in frog form too. I will miss Splash, and all the animals I made friends with, (in the ride) but it’s time to bid them farewell.
@@disneylover1294 there honestly hasn't been that much of a push from fans or otherwise about changing splash mountain. this was an internal decision and it seems like an improvement to me. sometimes you have to let go of things, and in this case that something is hurtful to people. the ride structure itself will likely stay the same, try looking forward with a more positive attitude. i hope you have a good day!
Soooo many wonderful memories of Splash! It might be my favorite place on Earth. It opened when I was 4 and I remember being TERRIFIED to go on it in large part because of the thorns! But once I went on it my fear completely flipped to jubilation. That’s probably the reason I particularly love it. I also have the Ernest TV special on VHS !! And my favorite part of the ride is definitely the second drop in the dark and how it shoots you right back up quickly!! And I agree that Keith David’s voice (The Shadow Man aka Dr Faucilier) MUST be part of the Princess Frog attraction!
I really hope the re-themed ride will have a section dedicated to dr. Facilier. Just imagine all the creepy voodoo stuff in extreme blacklight colors and friends on the other side blaring all throughout the section.
Yes! I hate how some people say Splash is just a flume ride with a drop. It's much more than that. The characters and atmosphere are the best part of the ride for me.
My favorite part of Splash Mountain is the theme, Brer Rabbit is my absolute favorite character and I'm so sad to see him go. Also, I will dearly miss the music! My favorite memory of Splash Mountain is going on it super early in the morning, in January when nobody wanted to go on it and riding it multiple times in a row.
I remember when it opened at WDW. We had to wait in the line FOREVER, but I was sooooo blown away by the theming in the line queue. All the details! And I thought it was so cool that the train passed by the queue as well. The ride drop gives me a lot of anxiety and isn't my fave. I hate that you aren't strapped in to the vehicle, and that "my gut is coming out of my body through my throat" feeling. The laughing place is pretty awesome.
My favorite memory of Splash Mountain was probably when I rode it in the rain with my cousins last year. My grandma thought we were crazy but we still rode it
OMG i had never thought about them retheming HAUNTED MANSION. THAT RIDE IS SO LOVED AN UNCONTROVERSIAL RIGHT?! the day they get rid of it is perhaps the day i stop going to disney... seriously. that is my favorite ride ever
I remember when I was at Disneyland last summer I said. “I wish they would just refurb Splash Mountain so all the animatronics worked” I didn’t mean this 😭
I'm not opposed to the re-theming of Splash Mountain, I just feel right now isn't the best time given the current situation with all the riots going on. I would personally wait until things simmer down before the parks start re-theming.
General Jimmies i think the re-theming has been planned for a while, but they announced it now almost as a response to everything that’s been happening recently
@@generaljimmies3429 i think that's at least partially why they announced the retheaming now they wanna fully get rid of song of the south and this ride is still heavily connected to that heavily controversial movie in a time where black people are done waiting for things to get better and are taking a major stand
They weren’t bad, people just were upset about the reasons for why the ride was closing, it wasn’t racist I have no idea what he’s taking about but this ride is a childhood memory I welcome the new one but people were just upset about it changing it wasn’t bad
Ooooo you missed all the comments he had to delete, it was baad. When it first got uploaded I just happened to be on. I looked at 3 comments and had to leave lol
I knew they were going to renovate it for a while because it hadn't been repainted or updated in years. Those animatronics were the same from 1989 and earlier from America Sings and they just needed to refurbish it. And why update it as it is when you could rebrand the ride and get rid of the negative press about Song of the South. I hope that they do it justice.
Right?! Good business all around imo. The fact that they kinda neglected it makes me think they wanted to do this for a while and used the current...situation...to hype it up.
it did happen at magic kingdom, i went right before it the parks got shut down and splash was reopening the day after i left. i think it was closed for about a month for renovations?
Princess and the Frog is my favorite Disney movie so I’m super excited! And my favorite memory on Splash Mountain was when I went to Disney World with my band in high school. We had marched in the parade and were getting a small amount of time to explore and ride. A couple of friends and I literally ran stripping out of band gear across the Magic Kingdom to Splash Mountain. We got on the ride right as the fireworks started and we got to watch the fireworks from Splash Mountain! It was a very magical moment!
In contrast- on another trip, Splash Mountain broke down while we were on it and they eventually even had to turn the lights on and everything. Let’s just say I will have nightmares about rabbits continually laughing in my ear for all eternity.
I am personally excited about the re-do. I LOVE Princess and the Frog and you know Disney will do it beautifully. I will miss the nostalgia of the OG version, but you know, there are plenty of ride along videos on youtube now to get that old school fix after it's gone. My best memory is summer of 2017 when I took my niece for the first time and she insisted on sitting in the front row and I laughed a little and said OK. It was only us two and one other guy in our boat so I took the middle. Needless to say she got SOAKED and I got mildly misted. But that fun will still be there when it's PATF.
At first I didn't feel that excited I thought "It's just a bunch of people getting angry at a movie they've never seen but they heard other people say it was racist so they're mad at it" but I started thinking about the princess and the frog and if that means New Orleans Square gets extended and Splash Mountain has the witch doctor and his musical number I think the ride would become way better.
One of my favorite memories was when my elementary treated the 6th graders with a Disney trip and all the teachers hyped up splash mountain, and my little 4’11 90lb self never went on any of these rides, so when we went it was my first time and I experienced it with my friends and then we rode it 2 and at night before the busses left and water got into my ears for like three days after(Not good at stories sorry but it was a great memory haha)
I rode it once when I went to Disney world, but as an African American fan of Disney I was excited by the news of the ride new look as I think it would flow better with the New Orleans theme. Plus Princess and the Frog needed something to represent itself at the parks.
I loved splash mountain but I think it’s time to see something new. Maybe some day we can see the original again but for now I’m excited for this new edition
One thing you forgot to mention is that, to play into both Splash Mountains being located in different sections of the park, the songs also sound slightly different. The Disneyland ride is located just north of New Orleans Square (themed after the Roaring 20s), and as such the instrumentations featured a lot of jazz/“big band” arrangements. The WDW ride, on the other hand, was instead located in Frontierland (themed after the Wild West), and so the accompaniment was changed to sound more folksy. I wonder if they'll still incorporate this element into the re-theming…
My favorite part about going on Splash Mountain was going there at night and going on that final drop. I used to go there again and again just to get on that final drop because it was just so intimidating! I hope the re-theming has the same fear factor as the original did and it’s story can appeal to all audiences. That’s what made the original so memorable and seeing how it’s a re-theming, I hope they keep some of the animatronic geese and frogs in the beginning while implementing newer and more state of the art animatronics like what they are doing with the Beauty and the Beast ride in Tokyo. It could be a potentially brilliant successor if they take their time and put some thought into it. Also Plz Disney, have Dr Facilier and his friends from the other side sing “are you ready?” before I plummet down that final drop!
My favorite memory is going with my friend and throughout the entire line she said she really really wanted to go in the front so we asked the cast member if we could wait to the side and go in the front and right as we were boarding the log she changed her mind and I didn’t have time to argue with her so I had to go in the front and I was soaking the rest of the day lol 😂
Thanks for the offer code! I’m getting my candles tomorrow. Keep these vids coming. Also, how do the characters stay cool in those elaborate and beautiful suits? I’m one of those adults who cried (with joy) when I saw the characters blinking and ‘talking’ to my kids.
When I was 17 my community theater performed in Downtown Disney over Thanksgiving break. The first night that we got there, we all rushed over to Magic Kingdom and one of the first things we did was get in line for Splash Mountain. This was a questionable decision as it was chillier than we predicted so none of us were dressed warm enough for November and we had to SING in the morning (cold air can affect your voice). But we were too excited. So we loaded into the boats with all the guys in the front row and all us girls right behind. We were kind of worried about getting soaked when we dropped, but figured the front row would take the brunt of it. When we opened our eyes after the splash, we had gotten way wetter than expected and the guys were bone dry. How? They had all BROUGHT THEIR RAINCOATS and created a rubber wall that vaulted all the water onto us.
I think they should release the movie again with a disclaimer the way WB has done for it's racist cartoons. My problem with this ride is that Disney buried the movie as if it doesn't exist but they're still making money from it's less objectionable bits in Splash Mountain. I want them to either own their mistakes with the movie or stop cashing in on it with the ride and associated merch. They're not digging the movie out of the vault (which I still think they should do) so a re-theming of the ride seems fair.
One time I rode splash mountain with my brother and a few friends when it was raining and we were able to ride through 3 times without getting out of the log and getting back in line. We all had a blast and I will always remember it
Once when I was a kid, during the big drop of the ride, my hat flew straight off my head.
At least that’s what it tasted like 🤭🤢 🤮
Mike L oh my god what the hell 😭😭
I had the same exact thing happen to me on Test Track over a decade ago.
Mike L oh god no
I would be stoked if during Halloween they transform the Mardi gras theme into a Dr Facilier friends from the other side Halloween theme, imagine the neon lights and voodoo dolls all over the ride?!

That’s amazing
This is great 👏

If this ends in being able to get beignets *IN* the parks, I'm game.

When they finish the re-themeing I hope they use “are you ready” for the final drop.
Judging by the themeing of the drop, with the boat, it's probably going to be the ending of "dig a little deeper"
Given that the foxs shadow is seen before the drop, you could totally make it Facilier instead
@Gabby Lucas the drop represented brer fox flinging brer rabbit into the briar patch.
That's why you drop into the briar (bunch of thorns)

I think is should be the end of dig a little deeper! I watched the movie again the other day and at the end of the song the scenery looks so cool and I think they’ll put that at the end of the drop
My favorite memory is when the anamatronic fox told me he was gonna marry my dad

It’s from a really bad creepypasta
I'm so happy I got this reference
When I went last year the gopher was just hanging out and wasn’t moving in or out of the ceiling
Went to magic kingdom yesterday it’s still there and working
I always thought that gopher/weasel sneezed (“A-Achoo” instead of “FSU”) 😆
ok but imagine friends from the other side “are you ready” playing before you drop while they project cards spreading out
That would be awesome
my favorite memory ever of splash mountain was getting stuck after the drop near the entrance of the final scene. cast members were making announcements asking a man to put his shirt on. this went on for like 15 minuets until they got another cast member to repeat the message in portugese, spanish and i think french. then the ride started moving again. i still wonder what that shirtless man is up to now.
Lol 😂
Probably died of HIV.
That story spoke to me
Lmao that’s hilarious
Rest in peace Splash Mountain you'll never be forgotten.

I don’t know why y’all hate on Eisner so much, if it wasn’t for him Disney would be owned by Sony and the parks would be similar to a Six Flags park.
Eisner was great for Disney for a majority of his time, but once the 2000s hit, he definitely needed to go.
So yes; he saved disney; but he brought it full circle and almost killed it again.
We don't "hate" him, his ideas just kind of sucked.
It's fun to dunk on him
My favorite memories are always the ride photos, my brother has Down Syndrome so his reactions in the photos are ALWAYS the most genuine, and hilarious expressions. We have a couple of the splash mountain theme frames that you can buy when you get your photos.
My favorite memory was when my mom yelled “ A LA VERGA “ when we were going down the last drop before Disneyland closed-
Daisy Rodriguez bruh😂

I hope they pipe in the smell of the beignets!
I would have preferred a refurbishment of the original ride, and if it’s such a problem they could change the ‘controversial’ aspects while they’re at it.
This change doesn’t make much sense given how unpopular Princess and the Frog is compared to other animated movies.
General Jimmies Well they just announced it was gonna happen, the ride in general won’t be done until probably two or three years , by that time everything may be over
I’ve had so many awesome memories on Splash mountain. Never knew that 2 years ago it would be my last time.

Condolences on your loss. I pray you find the will and strength to push through this tragedy. Of course the fact that the actual “ride” isn’t going anywhere should provide some solace. Maybe try riding with your eyes closed and use your imagination. 🙄
Ross Horn Lol ikr.. I’ll get a VR headset for it.

You could say this ride's about to be... TRANSFORMATION CENTRAL
@@ZadnoleyaEdits And the re-theming is absolute REFORMATION CENTRAL!
NO!
That sounds like a good Holiday overlay for Halloween.
A 5 words a crocodile playing the trumpet
epic ninja sensei dinosaur puppet you’re absolutely correct.
PATF was a very solid film, but it wasn't even a hit.
yas

1. The music
2. The animatronics
3. The story
Sophia Kuhl yes please yes!
My boyfriend and I were talking about it and one of the things he was worried about was a name change. I personally don’t think they will change the name because it seems like it’s going to be such a similar ride but I do think they will add a tagline to it like “journey through the bayou” or something with Tiana and maybe even Louise name in there.
supposedly it will be a tree instead of a mountain now, that’s the rumor at least, so they might have to change it which would suck
I think they will change the name only because some people might not know there is princess and the frog. But that’s just me
It can’t be a mountain. There are no mountains near or in New Orleans. Lol
KCav10 oh the name is gone
Don't fool yourself. Any reference to Splash Mountain will be totally obliterated. So much for a Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Day!
I hope we've all moved past the angry/disbelieving stage of the change and onto the very excited/still sad stage at this point.
It's certainly sad to see Splash go, but the POTENTIAL Frog Mountain has to be absolutely phenomenal is so so so exciting to me.

"Disney would never replace a well-loved attraction with something way worse for no reason".....>looks at Tower of Terror with tears in my eyes
But I like the gotg ride tho.
They were my favorites
yeah I agree that's still my favorite part of the ride.
Yo imagine: A whole Voodoo Emporium scene. That's be sick.
That’s why they shouldn’t change it. The ride was built with this story in mind. Any retheme with feel tacked on.
It’s sad when a amazing creation gets ruined by politics , very shameful
@@BasedNj politics had nothing to do with it they had been planning the update for years
That’s cool you got to work there and see that
@@jasonbaylor9865 Sure, bro.
@@GODCONVOYPRIME ? You know how many years in advance things at disney are designed before they are announced?
If they do any screens I'll be pissed. We need cute audio animatronics. I probably won't get to go on it 1 last time. I don't live close by and well the park is still closed....
Welp it’s open now! And splash mountain is still running
I agree. I've always loved going on it at night, during fantasmic, while there is no line. To be honest I'm most concerned about Winnie the pooh and the gift shop. We could always rename that little section Pooh Corner.
that'd be precious :,)
I know! I love Pooh Bear! They have to keep something for little kids and me, right?
Probably my favorite time going on splash mountain was when I got my own log to myself and when I went down the giant drop and fantasmic was going on and i saw Mickey and I yelled out “hey Mickey.” And he pointed and waved at me.
There’s no way he heard you...
Mickey did hear him. I was in the crowd and we all clapped when it happened
Hyperskreem 82 no, I mean after the giant drop lol. I was already down it, and that’s when I yelled “hey Mickey.” Pretty awesome that I got my own log and he heard me. He did wave and point.
That's amazing🤣👌
Sanchezzyy 55 dude splash mountain is not that close to the rivers of America. And Fantasmic is so ridiculously loud, there’s literally no possible way that Mickey heard you. You’re delusional.
I guess the fox doesn’t want to marry my dad anymore
😂😂 that story
No, it's the total opposite. It was the fox's plan all along. He instigated everything so that he can escape and marry your dad.
Avery, you everywhere
Hudson I know! Even in the nonDisney videos I watch, she’s there commenting away!
Not your time, nor yet my time.... but one time."
Loved reading the wood signs that would have a sentence or two telling the "story" of the ride as you got deeper and deeper into the mountain.
Lol.
These stories are heartwarming but why is everyone talking like the ride is getting demolished?
Cause it technically is!!! Its a classic. A true memory. History. Im mad...
splash mountain has been my favorite ride at the magic kingdom since i was a kid, but i am super excited to see the new retheming as i loveee the princess and the frog!! not all change is a bad thing ❤️
Juliana Licciardi but, change just to be seen as woke is no change at all. Disney planned to change this ride for years, but just now decided to pretend that they are socially relevant and at the forefront of social progress. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.....
Mike L what’s wrong with social progress?
maltsoy marai nothing is wrong with it. It’s a good time.
s 123 it sure is a good time!
R.I.P
Splash.
You were loved by many.
@TankingWrong How is retheming a friggin children's theme park ride erasing history....I-
@TankingWrong dude chill, it's a disney ride not the smithsonian.
mark tamayo Or maybe she’s educated???
Molly Pop Who Cares. No one cared for thirty years and rode the ride over and over again without complaint until now because it’s currently trendy.
Marty Sklar said, "Disneyland isn't a museum" and Walt Disney said ,"Disneyland will never be completed." And I remember he said, "The thing will get more beautiful every year, and we'll keep plussing stuff"
I understand Disneyland is changing all the time, and I just needed to be reminded of that, I hope the new ride can stand up to my expectations, other than that, thanks.
Man I’m early. Also why are people being called racist for being sad a ride is being rethemed? Please I need and explanation
My Disneyland now lives on RUclips.
My favorite part of Splash Mountain was the animatronics
Yesssss
Except for the fox that said he was going to marry my dad
Yes! I hate how some people say Splash is just a flume ride with a drop. It's much more than that. The characters and atmosphere are the best part of the ride for me.
I thought the animals and music were cute. Glad I got a cast pin of its last anniversary last year I guess (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥`)
I forgot the drop somehow
I hope this is not a repeat of into you imagination
Noah Santana Oh god no.

We got Tony Baxter working on it, I doubt it.
@@masterofdisguise9564 With Baxter, everything is going to be A-Okay.
Hopefully it’ll be in similar vein of Mission Breakout (Halloween version) where the ride ends up being just as good if not better than the original.
I am beyond excited about the Princess and the Frog revamp! I think it will become my favorite ride!
Yeah I don’t think there’s any bad stuff in there...😬
At best, they'll just retheme the entire exterior of the mansion, because of the design being from a bygone era, and keep everything else the same.
Surely Disney can't be stupid enough to change Haunted Mansion right?
@@raphaelmarquez9650 That would be dumb of them, that's sort of the point, old Haunted Mansions are supposed to be from a bygone era
I remember when I was at Disneyland last summer I said. “I wish they would just refurb Splash Mountain so all the animatronics worked” I didn’t mean this 😭
OMG I SAID THE SAME THING
(We gotta be careful what we wish for, R.I.P. splash mountain)
@@generaljimmies3429 i think that's at least partially why they announced the retheaming now
they wanna fully get rid of song of the south and this ride is still heavily connected to that heavily controversial movie in a time where black people are done waiting for things to get better and are taking a major stand

My favorite part of splash mountain is also going on it at night and during the winter when no one else wants to go on it. Respect man. RESPECT !!!!!
This is the 1st time I've ever been this early feels good man
The best memory I ever had was the first time my dad rode it and fell asleep before the big drop only to wake up once we splashed down.
Am I the only one who is like really excited for this?!?
Brianna Kremer I definitely I am! Makes me a little sad not that many other people seem enthusiastic :(
Probably
I am
I am. I wasn’t at first, but now I’m more open to it. I’m still unsure if there are mountains in New Orleans though lol
I'm gonna miss Splash Mountain always singing "How do you do" when i'm in the log
I rode it once when I went to Disney world, but as an African American fan of Disney I was excited by the news of the ride new look as I think it would flow better with the New Orleans theme. Plus Princess and the Frog needed something to represent itself at the parks.
SO excited for this makeover and all it represents! I agree, I don’t want to see a single screen and it better be just as long and immersive xx
I loved splash mountain but I think it’s time to see something new. Maybe some day we can see the original again but for now I’m excited for this new edition
Riding it at night while everyone was watching the firework show. 🤩
There is something so magical about the ending scene. The music, the river boat, all of it. I am going to really miss this ride
I AM SOOO SAD!!!! I LOVE THIS RIDE!!! My fav memory is not waiting in line because I go in single rider
My favorite memory is going with my friend and throughout the entire line she said she really really wanted to go in the front so we asked the cast member if we could wait to the side and go in the front and right as we were boarding the log she changed her mind and I didn’t have time to argue with her so I had to go in the front and I was soaking the rest of the day lol 😂
rip splash
Thanks for the offer code! I’m getting my candles tomorrow. Keep these vids coming. Also, how do the characters stay cool in those elaborate and beautiful suits? I’m one of those adults who cried (with joy) when I saw the characters blinking and ‘talking’ to my kids.
I think I love the music out of everything. It make you feel like you going on a adventure to a special place that only exists in our imaginations.
How? They had all BROUGHT THEIR RAINCOATS and created a rubber wall that vaulted all the water onto us.
ooops.
I feel like Disney should just keep the theme being song of the south so that way it can teach the younger children about our good and bad past.
They're not digging the movie out of the vault (which I still think they should do) so a re-theming of the ride seems fair.
not to be controversial but i think i will miss splash mountain forever, no matter how good princess and the frog is
Its like replacing Space Mountain with Star War- oh wait
Peruvian Potato bro the day they got rid of hyperspace mountain was the best day of my life
That's not controversial! It's okay to have different opinions from some people :)
The view from the top right before you’re plunged down and you get a moment of bliss and perspective, then WHOOOSH!
One time I rode splash mountain with my brother and a few friends when it was raining and we were able to ride through 3 times without getting out of the log and getting back in line. We all had a blast and I will always remember it
