      Your Grace, Your undeserved Favorness? How did a Theological term for unearned favor become a term for someone rank??

    I've always thought that perhaps it's the difference between concrete and abstract nouns.

    Will “your majesty” only be used for female? And “your highness” for male?

    • @hop3106
      @hop3106 3 года назад +1

      No, Your Majesty is used for Kings and Queens, Your Highness is for Princes and Princesses.

    Hmm.. but didn't the Spanish "usted" come into Spanish from the Arabic 'ustaadh'.
    Arabic had a not-so-insignificant influence on the Spanish language's vocabulary.

      usted came from 'vuestra merced'. similarly in portuguese você came from 'vossa merce'

      It came from "vuestra merced". In Portuguese the same form of treatment was used ("vossa mercê" in Portuguese) and it was shortned to a very different "você". Also, records show the use of the original "vuestra merced" and it's intermedit forms through time until reaching its current form: vuestra merced > vuesa meced > vuesa mested > vuested > vusted > usted.
