This is such a great video - the simplest of things!! I started off today with ABS light, traction control, brake wear warning, brake warning amber and airbag light. Aim was to get everything done in a day on an E39 Touring - front discs and pads, rear discs, pads, shoes/hardware, ABS sensors, brake wear sensors and seat occupancy sensor bypass. All done and I was very disappointed to get into the car to do a test drive and see the wear warning still lit (everything else out). Drove round expecting it to go off but no. Went home in a bit of a bad mood to be honest then found this video. Back to the car, ignition on, wait and hey presto out the light goes!!

Thanks Nathan. This worked like a charm on my 2003 E53. I did try and use sensors from two of the major auto part stores in my area but neither set worked. I was a little reluctant to cut the wires on brand new parts but your video made me take a leap of faith and I just wanted to say "YOU ARE THE MAN!!!"..thanks again.

On right hand drive vehicles the sensors are located in the same position although it would be front passenger and rear driver obviously

So engine wise, what is the biggest difference between the two? I have an M54 e39 and thinking about getting an x5 for my wife. Plan on doing all the work myself. Pros and cons... One over the other thx.

If you can do the work yourself not much difference cost to maintain wise, they have fixed a lot of the coolant leak issues on the new engine

    Nathan,
Big fan, but I must be missing something in this video. I have a 2003 530i with high cluster (big window in the middle). So, the "brake lining" message is appearing. Changed pads and sensor and it did not work. Then I realized that the sensor is probably the issue (not compatible), as you mentioned in the video. So, I put the old one back on and clipped it and stripped wires and twisted together again, as you mentioned in the video. The "brake linings" message just won't go away. In this video you seem to just get in the car, turn key to second position, keep driver door open, have heat on and just wait for warning light to go off and say it should work for the high cluster, but it does not. So, I must be missing something. Can you help me figure this out...I'm sure it is me?

My light is on and this didn’t turn it off lol
My mechanic looked at it and said I have 90% breaks back and front and rotors are fine so why is it on I don’t know 🤷‍♀️

Mine says check brake linings but no brake pad censor light ever came on... 2 arrows pointing into the center code saying check brake linings... 🤔

Eric F yes the message is the same as the waring light

If pads get really low and light never comes on, do I need a new sensor? Light works when key is turned btw

Once the sensor gets rubbed by the rotor and the light is on the sensor has to be either replaced or bypassed

Have you done a video of the bmw e53 gas gauge stuck at 1/4 of a tank?

Can bad brake linings cause the steering wheel to shake at around 45-50+?

MoNsTeR420x 777 thanks! One of my tires went flat today, replaced it with the spare that has a lot of thread and reduced the shaking tremendously, will be buying new tires now.
