I remember listening to this song in 3rd grade, riding with my dad to school. Twenty years later, the words reach me deeply. With the darkness and the shadows of the world being pushed in my face every day, I look to God's promises for hope to overcome.
My all time favorite ever since 1999 this album Odyssey...remember hearing this beautiful song with walk man cassette player😊... Peace of God comes and covers me whenever I listen to this song even now 2023.
I actually saw a rainbow in the night coming home from a revival meeting at church in 1996. I will never forget it. I got out of the car, singing this song and crying. It has been a blessing of God to me through extreme betrayals and intensely painful experiences. Thank you David for writing this song. HE really does make rainbows in the night.

You know catcrazy632, it's as if David Meece is talking about me in this song. When I look back on the days before I got saved, the lyrics he sings make so much sense: "Looking back on all the roads I've known The echos of the songs I've sung Looking back there's a thread of love and grace Connecting each line and space I've known And all the years I thought were lost On empty searching without clues Now trace a journey to the highest truth" I know I was His all along. Chosen in Christ!
I listened to everything David recorded from his very first song. This was the most profound. It took me 15 years to really begin to understand this song.
In 1998 we as a family had just lost my brother in a plane crash. We where in a dark place in our lives. One morning 3am my dad woke me out of a deep sleep. He said quick come and see, there's a rainbow in the night sky. I thought O it must be a halo around the moon. I was wrong, it was a perfect double rainbow in the night sky. So awesome and amazing. It had such an awesome comforting effect on us. My mom dad and myself. The next morning an old Christian friend of my dad phoned him in the morning saying to my dad. I was listening to this song called God's promises are rainbows in the night last night and was thinking of you and your family. My dad said you won't believe me when I say we actually saw a bouble rainbow in the night. How awesome is that.. I must say all these years later God has had us covered. Wow, so glad I found this song to remind me of that night we saw a rainbow in the night..

Wow what an awesome song !! I just now heard this song for the first time in December 2022 and I am just blown away. This song does an excellent job of mixing so many musical styles and genres, and of course the lyrics are profoundly true.
Just beautiful. It's so easy to forget those promises of God, when so many preachers are preaching law, law, law at the poor beleaguered Christian today. They're so worried about being holy, that they forget to establish the Christian in the things Christ has DONE FOR THEM. There's nothing wrong with striving to be holy in Christ, but you cannot do it unless you are standing on those promises. "There is now no more condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus..." (Romans 8:1)

I had forgotten how hard this song goes. I used to listen to my old cassette of this album on loop over and over as a kid until it wore out and hadn't heard it since. But the words to this song were mostly burned into my mind. I sing the chorus to my Daughter as a lullaby. I forgot it was the hardest slapping Anthem ever.

well, send down the rain would have been interesting. but the good news is that david has a new project due this year. there's a clip from a concert last september of a song to come from that new album. it's called "Grace Of You" here on youtube.
"Odyssey" wasn't intended to be a major release for David. The album came out around the time that secular record labels started to buy up Christian labels. David had a brand new album "Send Down the Rain" in the works. As I understand it, the new label owners cancelled the project (and others) and blocked David (and other artists) from fleeing to other labels. Thus the large time gap between "Odyssey" & "There I Go Again"
Odyssey was supposed to be a way for David to display his work (past & present) to the owners of Sparrow records (I think that was the label he released on). I was told that the buyout of Christian labels was mostly due to the popularity of crossover hits by Michael W. Smith "I Will Be Here For You"" and Amy Grant "Baby Baby". When the new owners found out that Christian releases do not generate as much profit as secular, the axe fell on projects by Bob Carlisle, David and others.
The sad part is that nobody knows what songs David had recorded for the project. Because of his extensive library, David was able to perform while being blocked from the studio and he continued to write as well. Bob wasn't as fortunate. I'll check out the video tomorrow.
I have to resend this Yes the rainbow happened when Noah got out of the ark.God put the rainbow in the sky to remind Himself of His promise to mankind that God would not flood the earth again. Amazing God Almighty reminds Himself of His Word to us. I think sometimes Gods Heart is broken and He looks at the rainbow to remember His promise to us.Of course God love gay ppl. Do you know what peeves me off at the moment in time? ...... I hate how the gay and lesbian community use our beautiful rainbow as their symbol..... but it belongs to our Lord Jesus Christ who promised that He wont flood the world again!
Mel Schimdt Hi Mel. As a gay kid in the 90s, being ruthlessly tormented and tortured by my "christian" classmates and adults alike, I often listened to this song for hope. God always did and still does guides me in life with his spirit and light. Every time I felt hopelessly alone and rejected, God hung a rainbow in the night for me. Now as an adult I live somewhere there are rainbows daily, and even at times, at night in the form of moonbows. Rainbows in the night. God can do anything, and despite your misunderstanding of His love, he forgives you. God's love is boundless and ever reaching, especially to those most needing of it, like sad and terrified boys being told they are an abomination and deserve AIDS and hell. God didn't say that to me. He lifted me up with that rainbow and showed me I am loved by Him regardless of others hate. Just some thing to chew on.
@@chrisalan9330 I am not hating, but what about the parts of the Bible that speak against homosexuality? The rainbow is not "our symbol" as Mel Schmidt put it, but it is God's symbol--a symbol that tells us He is not going to flood the world like He did in the time of Noah. It was not originally used to denote the LGBTQ community like that community uses it for now. No hate from me, just mentioning the origin of that symbol and how it became twisted for a use and meaning it was not originally intended for. Something to definitely think about.
@@chrisalan9330 I have to agree with Amy on this one. God is almighty and forgiving, though. I don't want to say what you're doing is wrong as a human, but it is wrong as a Christian, and I know that you've already been forgiven.

Deep within this darkened heart of mine
The Word of God still shines with hipe
Deep within this frightened life I live
A voice so soft and still grows
And when the sun is hidden and
the shadows cloud my starless skies
Amazingly I turn and see a light
God's promises
Are rainbows in the night
Shining hope inside
When shadows cloud my eyes
His promises
Are rainbows in the night
Guiding through the darkest times
God's promises are rainbows in the light
Looking back on all the roads I've known
The echoes of the songs I've sung
Looking back, there's a thread of love and grace
Connecting each line and space I've known
