Definitely one of the greatest songs to have ever come out of Motown! 100% TIMELESS in terms of lyrical impact. As for Edwin Starr, he was the closest thing to having an all-out rock singer that label had back then. So underrated from an influential standpoint (RIP). Great reaction, btw!

This is one of them BIG songs. One of those all time classics. Edwin's voice is incredible, there are few singers in history who can even get near this. What a record, oh my God. War can't give life, it can only take it away. That's the pinnacle of the song, every song has got one

Well, this song comes with plenty history it appears. Fact is TT's released in March 1970 when it came out as a track on their Psychedelic Shack album. Ed Starr's recorded May 1970 and released June 1970 as a single.

It's a Norman Whitfield song. He's the same guy who wrote and produced Papa Was Rolling Stone and Smiling Faces Sometimes and countless other Motown tunes.

Enoma, Happy 2020 to you both & your family. Thank you for another great analysis. I do have a Request for you both to look at & learn more about. The song is by Bob Marley & is called 'War' as well, it is a powerful song with a powerful message! The Irish singer, Sinead O' Conner sang this song in protest @ The MTV awards show, she was shunned & hated by an incredible amount of people for singing this song unscheduled & because she spoke out about the corruption that exists in the Catholic Church including the pope.
Thank you, if you get a chance to react to this artistically & amazingly written song by Bob Marley.

War and Peace by Tolstoy was originally named War What Is It Good For, according to Seinfeld.
