I've never played KQ1 or KQ2. KQ3 was the first one I've ever played and I hated it. I hated KQ4 somewhat less but it still sucked. KQ5 was the first one I would consider doable by normal people and without a hint book; though it was still easy to get stuck on this one as well. The KQ series was pretty bad compared to Space Quest or Leisure Suite Larry, which both were far more logical, gave you far more hints and while you could also get stuck in those, it was far less likely.
Can't really disagree with anything you're saying. HAHA. The first one I ever played was KQ4, so the first three looked TERRIBLE by comparison. KQ has always had the 'oh you missed that item, sucks to be you!" Larry only had a couple of soft locks but was always funny, same with Space Quest. Looking forward to diving into those games more when they come up on the wheel. Have only played Space Quest 1 and Larry 1 and 2 for the centennial so far.
