This song always really sold to me the idea that Rock and Blues are done with Wily's tricks. Infecting Roll with the virus was the last straw and they will put a definitive end to that endless war. Now that old fool has to answer for his evil actions! It's always good to return to the Classic series.
Man, I really was sold the idea that MM10 might've been the final entry for the Classic Series, as Roboenza could be seen as Wily's very early prototype of the Zero's Virus. Wily retreats and even gives Light the cure, hoping he would get his guard down, while actually going into hiding for a very long time to further develop Zero (which gives an actual reason for Bass DLC, him being worried/jeolous of being replaced). However, Light at this point saw Mega Man, his masterpiece, vulnerable. He doesn't buy Wily's redemption and secretly starts developing X, if he hadn't started already. That because, MM7 had Mega Man wanting to harm Wily, a human. MM8 had Dark Energy, that also affected him and would've been fatal if not for Duo. That might've been a red flag for him at that point, and thought about the "beyond the program" system that would implement on X to be capable to understand and emphasize with human emotions, later understood as "reploid thinking" by Cain, despite not being able to fully replicate it himself.
Not only that, MM10 came after MM9, which main theme is self-preservation against destruction by decommissioning. Wily studied the behaviour of robots that would rather to go against his own creator than to resign and cease to exist. Despite Light extending his utility lifespan at the end of the game, that would gave Wily the idea of a virus that would exploit that, aka the Zero Virus. We later get MM10 with the Roboenza as a prototype as explained before and then in MM11... Power gear stuff? Don't get me wrong, MM11 is really fun to play and I'm really happy it happened, but they kinda dropped the darker tones that might lead to the X series for a passive/aggressive rivalry, again. Weird decision. Maybe they don't ever want to show us the inflection point to the X series and leave it to our imagination. That way, the Classic Series can still go for a long while. After all, "all Robot Masters always being rebuilt" idea was retconned from spinoff games and manga, where they all keep functioning up to the present game (which goes against MM7's Robot Museum, where they're indeed decommissioned at some point and put in an exposition) so... I don't know at this point. Mega Man canon is weird. Sorry for this Bible of a comment, btw. XD
@@lyricsghost2547 I mean, I think it still works. Mega Man 9 and 10 show darker sides and tones to the series about the fate of machines and I don't think 11 being lighthearted changes that. Light and Wily's conversation at the end still carries some weight. I think think Dr Light was working on X as early as prior to Mega Man 8, even the arcade game The Power Battle shows that Wily is already working on Zero (which Bass mocks that Wily is trying to replace him). So I think there's still basis for X and Zero being created in the background even during the more comical 11 storyline.
In fact, the Double Gear could even be seen as pushing the point further; the Robot Masters have limited capabilities, the Double Gear system pushes them further with what they can do (though they also overheat from using it). Wily represents humans that only accept robots if they continue to prove physically superior to humans and can be useful to us, while Light believes making them our mental equal is the way to progress. Thus Wily works on the frankly far more powerful but unstable Zero, while Light develops the Reploid mind that gives X infinite potential.
It's probably true that they don't want to make too many connections and leave some of it to our imagination, but every now and then they plant these little seeds, like the fear of decommissioning in 9, that help it make sense.
How ironic I've been looking for good remixes of this song, and then this happens.

There was always something about the Wily stages in MM10 that gave a sense of finality to the series. Then MM11 had to come along to ruin that feeling. Oh well. I'm sure Capcom will eventually give us the conclusion we want.
But at any rate, I absolutely love the MM10 OST and this is one of the best remixes I've heard for this track. Thanks for the remix!

@@someguy4252 I feel like they could take some inspiration from the Stardroids in MM8BDM to accomplish something like that. Unlike Rockman World V, they all were standalone villains trying to revive their master for galactic conquest there rather than simply being awakened and controlled by Wily (or almost controlled in the case of Sunstar).
@@someguy4252 Sounds good in paper, but I feel if they were to execute it everyone would figure it out instantly because of seeing the different setup in the story than usual. Rockman World V like the above commenter mentioned is probably the closest possible execution to this in a way that retains the "wily isn't the final boss" twist.
