I could be totally wrong but I think his holding on to the ball could be him pressing a lot because of how bad the defense is. If you know you have to score 45 points a game to win because the defense is completely terrible after a while you’re going to try and score every drive
Facts. I’m USC fan our defense was terrible and Caleb had to do everything to make plays to win games for us. Even our offense line was bad and only good receiver we had was Addison in 2022-2023 year . Caleb is legit
You’re exactly right, their defense allowed 35 points per game average. So when your a stud at qb, know you gave deep threat weapons, he’s gonna try to extend many plays on later downs. Or else he runs the risk of punting the ball to the giving the opposing offense better field positioning allowing for another easy score.
Holding the ball too long only matters when the only context for it is slow processing, but Williams has enough tape to show he can process quickly. Mahomes, Jackson, Hurts, Purdy all hold the ball longer, so do Fields, and Dobbs. Why a player is holding the ball and what they do between those plays matters more than the hold time itself.
