    I could be totally wrong but I think his holding on to the ball could be him pressing a lot because of how bad the defense is. If you know you have to score 45 points a game to win because the defense is completely terrible after a while you’re going to try and score every drive

    • @alvinlal5332

      Facts. I’m USC fan our defense was terrible and Caleb had to do everything to make plays to win games for us. Even our offense line was bad and only good receiver we had was Addison in 2022-2023 year . Caleb is legit

    • @mrfamousamos9819
      @mrfamousamos9819 7 месяцев назад +8

      You’re exactly right, their defense allowed 35 points per game average. So when your a stud at qb, know you gave deep threat weapons, he’s gonna try to extend many plays on later downs. Or else he runs the risk of punting the ball to the giving the opposing offense better field positioning allowing for another easy score.

    Holding the ball too long only matters when the only context for it is slow processing, but Williams has enough tape to show he can process quickly. Mahomes, Jackson, Hurts, Purdy all hold the ball longer, so do Fields, and Dobbs. Why a player is holding the ball and what they do between those plays matters more than the hold time itself.

    • @justmarcus33
      @justmarcus33 7 месяцев назад +4

      He very rarely moves off his first or second reads, and that is by design, they generally cut the field in half for him with mirrored concepts....so how has he shown enough tape that he can process quickly? No QB in all of football, NFL or college, held the ball longer than Williams

      @nonmatt 5 месяцев назад

      A lot of the all-22 film I'm seeing where he holds the ball too long also comes with excellent o-line play. Chicago really needs to improve pass protection so there's going to be greater need for Caleb to process/read quickly, which it seems he does.

    • @guitarsrcool4922
      @guitarsrcool4922 5 месяцев назад +2

      @nonmatt unfortunately his defense was terrible last season and would give up at least 40 or more points a game. So he had a lot of pressure to score all the time and he would hold the ball to long looking for the big play and passing on the shorter passes. Plus he was trying to do that behind a very bad o-line.

    • @nonmatt
      @nonmatt 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@guitarsrcool4922 Then he made the line look really good with his maneuvering within the pocket. He’ll need that in the short term while they upgrade the o-line. The receiving corps looks like the best they’ve had in a very long time. Alas our defense still looks suspect at best so it will be a familiar setting for him. Thanks for the note!

      @nonmatt I'm a Trojans fan and It was a pleasure watching him play for 2 years. Ridiculous how he was made fun of for crying sometimes. Did you see how many players cried when they got drafted? I've seen Brett Favre, Ray Lewis, Peyton Manning and many players cry. But when Caleb cries the haters come out. The thing about him wanting part ownership of the team he never said that. That was his Dad that casually said it. His Mom use to paint fingernails as a side job so that's where he picked up on that. But believe me, none of this bothers this dude. He doesn't care one bit what the haters think. This dude is tough mentally and physically. That game against Utah he was taking the Trojans up and down the field. Scored 2 tds the first 2 times they had the ball but then he pulled a hamstring and just wasn't the same. Lost all mobility and couldn't get as much into his throws but he finished playing the whole game with that bad hamstring. This dude is different. I've never seen a qb this good in every way. He has Hall of Fame written all over him. You guys are so lucky. I'm a vikings fan so it's killing me. Lol. Just have a little patience. He's going to have some growing pains. I can't wait until a few years from now to listen to the announcers at the game being mesmerized at his awesome playing. Start saving your money to get the NFL Sunday Ticket so you can see all of his games. It's gonna be well worth it.
      Be safe.

    Holding the ball for too long is one of the aspects that hurt the most the career of an NFL QB. But what I love about Williams is the pocket presence and awareness of the angles for line protection and ball throws. Also his ability to keep his eyes downfield to seek throwing over running is such an amazing skill that is killer for opposing defenses.

      A somewhat understated part of the “he holds the ball too long narrative” is that he was able to hold the ball for much longer than other QBs because he is elite at pocket presence and manipulation. Add that with him needing to play a lot of heroball because of the poor position his team put him in, and his main negative that people talk about doesn’t seem that bad.
