So you aren't intentionally causing a buzz when you put the leadpipe to the mouthpiece, the added resistance and other factors are lining up right and causing the buzz, so all the muscles are as relaxed as if you were just blowing? I think this just blew my mind. I have been playing bass trombone and euphonium for eight years and I picked up the trumpet two weeks ago; the total difference in the airflow amount has been a really difficult change for me, but this might do the trick...

I would say you are overblowing…

I literally only got my trumpet last night so I'm not expecting to be Miles Davis overnight, but I don't seem to able to make a sound unless I force a high pressure buzz. I like this low pressure method far more, but I don't seem to be able to make it work. Do you roll your bottom lip over AT ALL ? or is it completely normal position ? Thanks.

Tom Vanleeuwen Hey Tom, you may very well be using some facial muscles in a different way to your regular playing so some slight fatigue is to be expected, however, if you are really burning you may be doing too much so I suggest resting a lot to stay fresh. Cheers, Greg

Is it normal my corners start burning (a lot) when doing these exercices? Even after a little while? Familiar to anyone? Grtz, Tom

And for the BIG gorilla in the room…why does a leadpipe cost so MUCH?????? I‘ve been looking for a leadpipe to practice on as I‘m currently learning the bugle as a new player. But any I could find , either at music stores, trumpet manufacturers or on Amazon or Ebay, all start in the $100 dollar range or higher. Does anyone have any source for leadpipes that are affordable? Thanks
