  • Arturia have just released a software emulation of their MiniBrute Analog Hardware Synth - the MiniBrute-V... and it sounds fantastic! In this video I deconstruct a preset to find out how it works.

    About me:
My name is Anthony Chisnall. I'm a musician & songwriter.
    My channel is these things:
    1. A place to share my music - both songs and instrumental pieces. Much of the music I write features in...
    2. Tutorial videos about music composition and production
    3. An outlet for me to discuss all things musical - including technical break-downs of software and tools that I use, as well as more wide-ranging discussions of topics that interest me.
I play the guitar (electric, acoustic, and bass), and record all of my own synth-based sounds myself too, but I can't sing very well (huge understatement!), and so my wife, Pauline, who has a lovely singing voice, has come to my rescue. You'll hear her on all of my songs.
All of my music is written in Steinberg's Cubase (currently Cubase 12).
I try very hard to make my videos PRACTICAL and no-nonsense - if I don't use a feature, I'm not going to waste your time trying to sound like an expert on it! This is the stuff I use day-to-day, so I think that's also what you'd like to hear me talking about.

Great video, Anthony. Thanks a bunch 🤝 Finally a MiniBrute with preset storage 😊 Polyphony would have been a welcome icing on this delicious cake, too. Soundwise no objections. I own a MicroBrute and a MiniBrute 2S and this VST sounds so strikingly smiliar, waveform modulators included. I suppose it's modelled based on the real hardware. Arturia did an excellent job on both extremes lately: this MinIBrute V and the PolyBrute 12 (what a beast; first previews made me drool). Love to see more from you about this VST. A perfect blend of subtractive synthesis recap and product review 👍

I should have said so in the video (hugely remiss of me), but the software version of the brute IS polyphonic (8-note)!

It reminds me of those classic Reason type synths like Subtractor or Mälstrom. Where you think "ah, this is so basic with the features" until you hear how diverse and unique the patches sound like...then it's like...not all that basic

Yep. It's a really superbly thought-out feature set.

Another great tutorial! Having Arturia's Matrixbrute (love it to bits) it will be interesting to see I they ever do a vst version of that! It would be great to be able to exchange presets between the two as I believe you can do with the Minifreak vst and the hardware synth - though it looks as if they are incorporating more effects than the Matrixbrute is capable of I'm guessing not.
Maybe if my wildest dreams come true they'll do a vst version of the Polybrute which will save me having to spend a billion million zillion quintillion pounds on the hardware version! We can but dream!!!
Keep up the good work. 👍

Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks! That would be a lot to spend on a piece of hardware!

I recommend this synth! Really quick ad easy to make complex sounds. Its also 69$ if you sign up or have an account with Arturia :)
