      Well, one could argue that some people care a lot more about bicycles than motorcycles, and a lot more about posh food than bare nutrition... To each his own.

      Absolutely right, prices gone insane! A dealer recently told me it has to do with - similar to car financing - customers are forced to care more about monthly rates than the absolute price. But if someone is not into ‚financing‘ and dealing with an additional bank, interest rates and so on...is fooled by these overpriced bikes. You really get a real Cross motorcycle (new!) for the price of a carbon Mtb fully where you have to pedal all by yourself!

    • @Tech-xm8vg
      @Tech-xm8vg 3 года назад

      @Bon G they use the same or better grade materials to make motorcycles - I have a large sports bike myself and they have to be made from high grade materials that can stand up to going 160MPH + and be reliable for daily transport.
      Bicycles are a total rip off I’m afraid and I’m a cyclist as well as a motorcyclist so can see both sides.

    I started riding at 15, I'm now 55, I had shitty bikes to start with, but as I worked and earnt money my bikes got better. I also raced, mainly as a track sprinter and always had the best I could afford. On the road I always rode Colnago and 3 years ago I realised I'd not bought a new bike for 10years. I sold the 3 Colnago models, and bought a £2k Shiman Ultegra equipped model. It was so good I bought another for winter riding. $10k for a frame is frankly bollocks, but you can guarantee they'll sell as many as they can make!

    I’ve been working at Evans Cycles for just over a year? I’d say I had six months before.. well all the recent controversy!
    Bikes are definitely getting out of control. And what I’m finding most insane is that some people are paying full price before even seeing them in the flesh. And if there’s anything I’ve learned, the average joe considers £400 “a lot of money for a bike”. So the entry level Allez is already a lot of bike to them. The 105 spec Allez, to their mind is a professional level.
    It’s an interesting place to be, the shop floor of a bike shop full of everything from £300 to £10,000 bicycles 😂 60% of our stores sales are probably ride to work vouchers for around £1,500/£2,000

      10k bikes are flagship models that you aspire to own. Which should be good enough to get you inside the store. So that when you exit the store. You come out buying a 2-3k bike instead.
      Case in point. A friend of mine bought just bought a Pinarello. His budget isn’t big enough to afford an F12 Dogma. So he bought a Prince instead. Still came out happy with his purchase of riding a Pinarello.

    Like he said, the top of the line may be getting outrageously expensive, but the mid-tier stuff is staying around the same price; and THAT is constantly getting better. Compare R7000 105 to Dura Ace from ten years ago or an entry-level carbon frame to a top-level frame. As long as a person isn't bothered by NOT having the top of the line stuff, it's a great time to be a cyclist.

I definitely dont think so... 11 years later, I'm still riding the same bike and certainly dont feel that the current bikes has anything to offer that demands such a price.... i have gotten a few other bikes over the years that have better performance claims, but i really cant see any.. i just that any bike from a respectable company in the 3-5k range is as good as any bike out that. If anything, we might just as well have 3 specific bike, aero, climbing and endurance bike in the 3k range and they will outperformed these 10k bike in their specialisation....

  • @Sills71

    Bikes have become as "aspirational" good.... that means something rich people (2%ers) buy to feel like they are special and better than the rest of us... Pinarello is owned by LVMH, an European conglomerate that owns many other "high end" brands such as Coach. Coach makes purses that cost $1000s... that tells you all you need to know, LVMH would not own a company that did not produce a high return on capital and have a high margin on sales. And the sheep buy into it... at least the BMC is made in Germany... not that it makes worth the price. No one will buy this frame because it is "better", BMC says it is the same weight and stiffness as the normal. overpriced frame ($4500)... it is just something will buy to attempt to feel special and above the average person. This frame is an example of a Veblen Good (look it up) and a FANTATIC example of why tax rates on the wealthy should be higher... if you are stupid enough to buy something like this, then you don't deserve the money you have.

  • @CristoffelBonorand
    @CristoffelBonorand 3 года назад

    Of course this one is too expensive, but it is obviously not a pricetag based on manufactoring or r&d costs, it's a pure fantasy price. This shows especially in the fact, that they state 10'000 Swiss Francs, Euros or Dollar, the amounts are quite a bit different if you convert the currencyes, but that's not relevant here. This Masterpiece programme is dedicated to potential customers who just bought their second Lamborghini, but are also into bikes. BMC will for sure find a few customers, for whom money is not an issue, but want a personal, special, tailored customer experience. We normal folk can stick to the less exclusive "normal" BMCs, that are expensive enough as it is...

    You have to look at these bikes differently to a general consumer level bike. Manufacturers need to continue innovating and they do that by making bikes like this then selling it to the people that can afford them, which will then eventually pay for the tooling and help them recoup the R&D costs and this technology will eventually trickle down to mid-level bikes.

  • @Sills71
    @Sills71 3 года назад +1

    The problem with something like this bucket of crap is that it RAISES THE PRICE OF BIKES FOR EVERYONE. One reason BMC does something like is to create a HALO effect, a very high priced good makes a lesser priced good seem cheap in comparison... if you look at this bike and then look at the normal BMC model ($4500 frameset) it immediately seems like a good deal. Before you saw the $10k bike the $4500 bike seemed expensive. Manufacturers drag prices upward like this and along the way they make some incredible margin on the HALO product. NO ROAD BIKE IN THE WORLD SHOULD COST MORE THAN $6000 OR SO... you can not create enough value beyond this to justify the increased cost. But cyclists are stupid...

To make some improvements in terms of aerodynamics on a slow moving thing like road bike which has some rules is very difficult. And yeah to develop things you need an expensive software, not the pirated one. To research it, it will be much much more expensive. These things need to be calculated and added to the vehicle price. So no, it's not mythical. If it's too expensive for you, either you don't buy it or get a better job and buy it. It's not a food dude, it's only a road bike, no need to be salty if you can't buy it.

      @@ritzk79 I think most of the makers made a comfortable bike but still has aero advantages this year. Also they make it with and for a fit rider as standard. A rider that can maintain 40kph for some time. We're talking about a thing that moved with a human power, so of course it will be very subjective and improvement will be in a very thin margin. Let me give you a very simple example, lightweight football shoes will make a pro player SPRINT faster by 2 seconds, then an out of shape dude bought the same shoes, hoping he can WALK 2 seconds faster. Later he complained this shoes is a scam and overpriced. Your argument regarding price and aero improvement might be acceptable if we're talking about cars or motorbikes.

    In my humble opinion, high priced bikes simply cause of carbon fiber is a zero sum game. You can only make it so light, either from limits of physics or from competitive cycling rules. To keep justifying increases in price, "I’d like to believe" bike manufacturers are going to have to weave in more tech (power meters, etc) and upgrades. I grind my teeth over the thought that they’ll keep pushing north on prices until the market screams "uncle" after getting dizzy from seeing a $17k+ road bike with a 105 mechanical group set. Lol. At the same time, I shouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t happen. I mean who would’ve thought we’d see the day people paid $200 for a pair of Jordan basketball shoes - and not play basketball. 🤷🏽‍♂️😆

    I get that there’s more cost and more tech in the current wave of bikes, but you can bet your bottom dollar that profit margins are dramatically higher too. Buyer beware!

    For this price, I hope the frame sizes come in 0.5cm increments....😂. I am curious at what this frame can offer that the Specialized Aethos cannot.

    Ridiculous pricing. As long as people are prepared to pay the high price manufacturers will just keep pushing prices up further and further.

    It's just pocket change for some... I'd need to justify it to myself.... what do i get out of a £10,000 bicycle when A) I am not a professional cyclist. B) I am not into breaking PB's. C) I am at the lower end of the earnings bracket?
    Clearly I am not the target customer. But who is when most mere mortals would not spend that amount of cash on a bike?

    The mobile phone market is a classic example of spiralling costs. Demand for high end has dropped off in sales. When a manufacturer drops a product that is cost effective and great value for money they are snapped up in a flash. Maybe that is their marketing plan.

    Bicycle prices are getting insanely out of control. Just incredible how expensive a good bike costs nowadays. If only they would start pushing these technologies to the lower price bikes that people can actually afford. (I know, I know, trickle down blahblah) It's all so insulting.

    If you count the cost of making one versus the price consumers pay, then yes I think most carbon fiber bikes are way too expensive.
    If you add to that the development cost some manufacturers put in (not all), then they are still very expensive.

    It makes me wonder when they don’t specify what carbon is being used... that’s normally a big selling point and at this price you would assume it’s top of the line carbon 🤔. So why aren’t they showing that off and giving actual specs? Kinda weird, I’ll pass but keep the Lightweights 🤑

    Like all luxury products, you're not paying for build quality, manufacture, materials or anything tangible.
    You're paying for exclusivity. All that matters is that the plebs can't get one. The price is arbitrary, it will be whatever keeps the poors from buying one.

    We can certainly tell your not looking to get any BMC bikes to demo. Unfortunately everything you've highlighted in this review applies to nearly all of your other reviews with bikes. Since when has it been acceptable to charge consumers over 10k for a bike like it is today. Its a total Joke and as you go on to maybe poke fun at this to say its made in the far east. But aren't most of the industry ?
    This frameset is full monocoque as you say and I'm sure you already know its much harder to produce a frameset like this and only limited factory's in the fare east only produce them. The finish weave on this frame clearly looks like where the time goes as it looks perfect all in UD carbon. Personally Id go for a Parllee Frameset as its finished just the same and its be-sopke.
    For me though this review has done nothing really but highlight even more the, what only be described as a joke at what's going on in the bike industry. Take Fact carbon specialized . Who's that then because to my knowledge there's only a few carbon manufactures in the world. All sounds like marketing bulls**t to me and that's just one thing of many from many Brands.
    Never mind the often possible self build on these bikes doesn't even come to the complete list price of the bike. That's not including the deals we can get on components. How that actually stands up with trading standards I don't know.

    Great news for the elitist snobs (and there are a few out there). For the rest of us however, ....it can’t be worth it in terms of performance, can it? $10k for just the frame set?! I think I know exactly what you smell @1:06 Cheers for the vlog, Hollers.
