I have been a catholic buddhist for 56 years and my life has been truly fulfilled as a human being way beyond whatever I could have dream and or desired. As my mother always taught me , where there is a will there is a way and my way was to love with my mind and think with my heart , leaving behind who I believed myself to be to acquire whom God wished for me to be. I followed the least beatened path into the dark night that St.John of the Cross so besutifully describes in his poem The Dark Night.

I'm a Buddhist monk who teaches Values Education in the Philippines to teenagers. The general background is of course Catholicism, and my family upbringing was Catholicism, with Protestant C of E schooling. So this is interesting and I am sharing the link in to my student Playlist. Thankyou. Your book has also been a great counsel and comfort for a mother who lost her daughter.

Awesome video! Really enjoyed the metaphors used at the end. I am from the Judeo-Christian traditions as well but always found seated meditation in Zen or Tibetan Buddhism to make me feel sleepy. So, I highly recommend Japanese Western Buddhism for chanting throughout the day (Buddhist Churches of America). For me the Amida Vow and Sutras are very meaningful.
    Thanks.

He’s saying that the stories in the Bible are as symbolic as they are literal. I imagine it’s obvious to most people here that there is something higher than just our current existence, and different faith traditions have different interpretations or extrapolations on it. The problem comes when every single tradition says that it’s truth is literal truth, that it’s words alone are true. Instead, if we can take these faiths as a fingers pointing to the moon, we can see what they all have in common, they all point to the same thing. Saying that a particular faith’s truth alone is the only and literal truth, is like pointing to the shadow of an object and saying that this flattened, static shape IS the entirety of the object. If you shine a light on an object, it’s shadow can change depending on the angle of the light that is shining on it. So we can get all kinds of shadows coming from the same truth, or object. This truth goes beyond the flat, literal, and easily grasped. A language or religion can only ever be a shadow.

The Hindu concept of Buddha is that he was focused on the human effort side of the spiritual. Yogananda and others pointed out that Buddha never said that god doesn’t exist. When he was asked about god he remained silent. The more atheistic side to Buddhism seems to be later developments by Buddha followers.
Emptiness is a powerful concept, I think that concepts about god or religious movements may be transitory over time but to me god is not transient and god is the first cause even if in some sense this is beyond our ability to conceive but it is just a rationalization it seems to think that all things are transient includes god. However Buddhism is full of supernatural concepts that western intellectuals otherwise wouldn’t accept and yet Buddhism in many ways appeals to them when the supernatural aspects of other religions they seem to reject
I find no contradiction logically however that when I meditate on the transient nature of all things that I am not including god in that conceptually

The Bible came out of the Jews struggle with the Canaanite and pagan religions of that area as well as Roman persecution and such. There was nothing like Buddhism really in that region. There was however stoic philosophers. Some have said that there are many elements of Saint Paul’s teachings that are very similar and others have said that some of the Greek philosophers have some things similar to the Buddhists
If you look into Jewish mysticism you can also see that Buddhism can make sense within that system

Christianity like Budhism believes in many gods.
In this alone the presenter has shown the multiple gods of Christianity. 1. God the father 2. God the son 3.God the holy Ghost. Please see his reference to John a d john 3:16
Of course Christianity will spin and doctor that all the three above are equal to one.
But you and l know some simple maths.
Christianity cannot escape the belief in multiple gods

The figment of your imagination should not give you the illusion that is what reality is.
      God is Almighty.
The rest is a figment of your imagination.
Net time you may worship water , a tree , an animal, or anything simply because your imagination is that God can ba any form. Mountain ⛰️ , sun ☀️, moon 🌙, sky, any form as you imagine.

    Holy Spirit come....
Through Christ, God gave us back the divine life mankind lost in its fall. Hence the divine healing miracles and casting out of demons, we experience up to this day.
To not see God in Christ.... is impossible.
"The Father and I are one!"
"If you see Me, you see the Father!"
"Don't you believe that the Father is IN Me?"
"ALL (!) AUTHORITY in heaven and earth has been given to Me!". (Only God has all authority).
At healing the paralytic: "Your sins have been forgiven you!" (Only God can forgive sins).
"I am THE (not a) light of the world"......: God.
"I have come to give you Zoë (=divine life) in abundance".... Only God can give Zoë life.
"I am from above, you are from beneath. You are from this world, I am not from this world".....
    Etc, etc, etc,
When He explained these things, healed the sick, casted out demons, raised the dead, controlled nature for 3 years, they all worshipped Him as God/Messiah.... except for the critical scholars and farisees!
He NEVER said: "Don't worship Me, I am just a prophet!". The Jews wanted to stone Him because: "You claim to be God".
So Jesus is God manifesting in Human form. Period. Glad He did. So now we finally know the sayings and actions of God.
    Next step.
To not see Jesus bringing the divine life of the ages back to you-manity.... is impossible.
"I will send Holy Spirit, the same as Me, He will be IN you, guide you into truth and give you explosive power to heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons, etc, etc"
"Follow Me, the miracles I do, you will do too"
    "God is IN you"
"The Kingdom of God is IN you"
"He who meets you, meets Me".
    "You and I are one"
"You will understand that the Father is IN Me and I am in you"
"See, I have given you power over all the forces of the enemy"
"I have come to give you Zoë (=divine life) in abundance!"
    Etc, etc, etc.
Hence the divine healing miracles and casting out of demons with His first 12+72 friends.
As i understood these things, i experienced healing miracles and the casting out of demons already thousands of times and many other true believers do too. Yay!
Conclusion of Paul after having revelation and healing all on Malta: "Jesus, the exact image of the invisible God. The fullness of deity dwells in Jesus bodily" and you have been made complete IN Him (the last Adam), who is the head of every principality and power".
John (who had seen, touched, heard Jesus and walked in the same power and love): "the invisible God manifested in human form, in Christ and now in us".
Thomas having revelation saying to Jesus: "My Lord and My God!". Jesus being God did NOT correct Him.
    Etc, etc, etc.
His life totally proves He is God in human form. Begotten by the Spirit of God, filled with the spirit of God, healing all, raising the dead, casting out demons, controlling nature, raised from the dead, pouring out His Spirit for us to be indwelled by to be empowered to heal the sick and cast out demons, etc, etc, etc.
Way to much to degrade Him to "just a prophet".
So... Jesus is the manifestation of God in a human body.... "the Son" of God. He came to take the alienation away mankind got trapped in after the fall. He came to give us back the divine life Adam/mankind lost in its fall.
Because of this fall, a perfect Holy sacrifice had to be made. That is what God did in Christ! It shows His deep, pure, affectionate passion from Him to you/His creation, to restore you back to origin: Christlikeness. Walking in divine power and unselfish divine love.
Jesus walked flawless. Muhammed on the other hand....
Muhammed came after Jesus. He unfortunately never understood God's resolve for mankind's fall, wrote another story, called it the only truth, cutting of the real truth, leading millions astray from their godly identity in Christ. Heartbreaking.
But for those who take Jesus for who He is and ask to be filled by His godly Holy Spirit.....: divine life. Tangible presence of God, healings, demons running for cover, etc. Just as with His first 12+72 friends.
God will make you experience the full (godly) Life made possible through Holy Spirit.
So don't be afraid to leave islam. God can only be found in/through Jesus Christ.
Ask Him to fill you with His/God's Holy Spirit so He can guide you into truth and transform your life. You and God/Jesus are finally one again. He will open your eyes and give you Zoë (divine life). You will be growing into Him in all things. The life you see in Him and His first 12+72 friends.
I experience it since 25 years and so will you.

Buddhism is fine for things like the 5 aggregates and the 4 noble truths. Yet like the Stoic evaluation of the Epicureans, they tried to analyse virtue and ended up with an individualism surprised by the need for friendship. Buddhist schools don’t agree on the ending and purpose of their analysis. I do enjoy Buddhism, but analysing the human soul leaves you with the human soul. Jesus is Lord.

    • @sambathmean

There is no soul in buddhism it is simple. There are only 6 senses 1. Passa the touch of body
      2. Khana sense of smell (nose)
      3. Jivha sense of taste (toungue)
      5. Chakhu sense of visual (eye)
      6. Mano sense of mind
The idea we called ghost or soul it is just a kind of creature live in different condition or dimension called inhuman.
those kind of creature has six senses as we do.
we are dying every moment like the flame a candle on and off like the current of the lamp in and out like the action of piston in a machine. since our body still holds to breath we die and born in current body again and again thats we getting old every momnet till last time of this body those six senses gone too and there no soul flying to new body.
things left are cause and affect like a coconut dropped down and the tree died then new tree came out from the coconut.
do human die and reborn? no
do human die and gone? no
dont human die nor reborn? no

I would say that emptiness really means I appear as a separate entity when in reality I am part of god. In that sense I am empty but yet I still appear to exist or I do exist but my existence is not what it seems. The Dalai Lama warms also about nillist thinking which is easy to do in this realm

This is the wisest comment in this whole forum.
Either Yahweh is The ultimate focus of our affections- for which we are derived in His Image... or He is being subjugated by our dabbling in wanton of anything other than His ultimate Aseity. ... by which He is our only fulfillment. Derivative natures are only fulfilled by an analog from which they are derived.
As a warning In love...true genuine Singular love for which there is only One origin... this is going down a happy, lovely path to nothingness.
a warm... vibrant nihilism... couched in contemplative. language.
Yahweh (Christ) would not love you if He did not require your sole devotion. Because focus anywhere else is your _lack_ of fulfillment- and therefore destruction.
How could God be pleased and condone such ontological suicide?
This is the demonstration that God is nowhere near such self destruction.
      Please turn back.

I am a Catholic and I believe the Bible literally. Everything writing in the Bible leads us our relationship closer to our Holy Father. I do not need Buddhism or any other philosophy or "religions" to identify who we are. You CANNOT study Buddhism and through Buddhism be a Christian. I do not have to point my finger to anyone or anything for the Lord is within the word of the Bible and within US.
