Well done for sharing everything and not just the highs. There’s no shame in not completing something with so much climbing and heat that you’re not currently used to. Probably my favourite video, not because you’ve struggled but because I totally relate to it. Keep up the good work
Hey man, I just came across your channel a few days ago. I’m a heavier guy (110 kg, 173 cm) currently on a bike trip across Europe. I like how you include the full experience of your rides, it’s vulnerable and powerful. Your videos are really great and inspiring. Please keep making them!
Don’t sweat it buddy 👍, I for one admire the honesty. It’s easy sometimes to be lulled into a false sense that everything will always be ok. Sometimes you have to listen to what your body tells you and it can be very dangerous not to. Glad you enjoyed your day, thanks for sharing 👍👍👍. Good luck with your next few routes 🚲🚲
I was there last week too. And I was the lad at the back most of the time also. Well done and great footage. Don’t forget too that the heat has a massive effect as we are not used to it. I always carry 2 bottles on my bike. One with energy drink. The other plain water, most of which gets poured on my head and neck to cool me down. It works for me. Give it a try next time in the heat.
Nice one Leonard as an older rider 70+ I decided to buy an elctric road bike to make the climbs easier and to extend my riding time, and has made all the difference.
I'm not really a road cyclist, more MTB. But i'm almost the same age and coming back after a knee injury and have always found Leonard's content a big push to do more. Looking forward to more sunny content!
I host the local “old and slow’ of the off road/ gravel group for my local cycling club. We are the out of shape, bad knees, back, and any other health issues part of the club. Frequent check-in stops is our game. Our first aid kit is more extensive than others with several with extensive first aid kits and CPR training. But we are out and doing it to the best that our bodies can handle.
Man that place is beautiful!! Good job Leo, it's still early in the season to get yourself up to speed.. the point of it all is to enjoy it and you're enjoying it! Good on you🙂👌
Hi Leonard, don't beat yourself up about this, it's all beautiful exercise! I recently bought an electric road bike, not because I can't get up the hills anymore but just makes them much more enjoyable, Believe me, it's still a good workout! Enjoying your channel 👍
Great video as always! That initial col out of Port de Pollenca is a real leg stinger! There are some epic Strava times up it. The descent back down is wicked tho. Well done!
Keep pedalling Leonard. You did the right thing and listened to your body. Tomorrow is another day and you are there for a good time - enjoy it. It’s going to be be cold here for the next few days so I catching up on some bike maintenance so I’m ready for better weather. Wish I was in cycling in Majorca ☀️🚴🙃
I’m a cycle coach, and have been out in Spain for 85 days, just having to head home now. You really need to consider the damage the flight and transfers did to you before this ride. When I arrived here, due to a long illness I could only ride 25km or so (it is hilly though), but last week I rode 102km with 1400m of climbing. Whilst you enjoyed the weather, it was 15°C more than your body is used to, and in temps like that up to 75% of your energy goes to cooling yourself, add in the wind and you’ll realise it was a tough ride, but for more reasons than you think. Finally, it looked really busy there, next year try Denia instead 😂
@@donreed5074 The cycling there is great. Calpe is just down the road, and many world tour teams base themselves there over winter. In fact just outside of Denia there is a hotel that has "altitude rooms", where they pump out some air pressure in the rooms, and the top team members sleep in those rather than being stranded at the top of a mountain in the Canary Islands all month. 44 km. with more than 700 meters of climb. That´s still pretty well done! And it´s early in the season so you will probably improve from now. The other cyclists in your group look so skinny compared to you (and me!!), so it´s much harder for you to climb so much as it is for them. So considering that, you did really well. For a relatively heavy cyclist, you are actually a good climber, in my view.
Great vid, I just got back from Majorca yesterday had a fab time. If you want something a little easier why not head over to Campanet. I found I clocked up a few miles on relatively flat roads and once I got to the square in Campanet I was greeted by espresso and apple cake. Have a great time.
Great vid and effort Leonard, I've a mate who does Triathlon and he's just come back from Mallorca, did a lot of cycling while there, anyway after talking with him and having one too many over the Coronation weekend,I woke up this morning and realized I booked a week in Alcudia in September, thing is I'm not a cyclist, well yet I'm not, look's like I best get the bike dusted down. Weather looks similar to what had in Scotland this past week 😂 (we have actually been spoilt ☀️). Completed a 4 day 250 mile charity cycle from John O’Groats to Braemar with some stinking climbing (totalling over 4700m). I’d never have dreamt of attempting some of the climbs a matter of year or so ago, having completed it I have to say was feeling a bit emotional (which isn’t like me!).
Inspirational! Kudos to you for making that climb. Appreciate you sharing the video. This ride is on my to do list having done it virtually many times on Rouvy. Hoping to make it there in person in the spring of 2024.
At least you are out there doing it Leonard. I just got back (Wednesday night) from Girona from 3 days riding-first ride we did was Banyolls and Rocacorba, 57 miles and 5552 feet of climbing. Rocacorba itself is 7.8 miles and 2500 feet of climbing between an average of 6-15%! I have never done anything like that before and the short sharp climbs we have around Cambridgeshire were not exactly suitable training……. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

If you'd been fit enough to ride straight back to the villa, you'd never have enjoyed that beautiful spot by the sea while you recovered 😎 It wasn't a competition, you were on holiday, so I hope you enjoyed the trip as much as I enjoyed that reminder of what the sun and blue skies look like! 😩
Just got back from Mallorca last week. I did this very ride (has to be done really). Seems strange seeing the same raods in somebody else's video. We did 3 rides in total, Coll De Sa Batala, Sa Calobra and Cap De Formentor. Sa Calobra was the toughest of the lot. I enjoyed the ride to the lighthouse more I think, very picturesque. Great video!
Sounds like my level of fitness. You'd be the perfect partner on my rides. Done something similar in Gran Canaria in Februar (39km and 700m) and it usually gets better after a few days. I try to do my pace on climbs because nobody else will carry my excessive weight but me myself and I 😂. So absolutely no worries, you're doing great 👍
Don’t be disappointed- it’s a tough ride out and back, especially in the wind! Try a circular route out to sa pobla, campenet, selva, caimari, up the Col da sa batalla (good climb with switch backs), then down the Col de feminia 👍😃
I live in Canada, we in Ontario just had a week of 30 degree weather, I put on a 1000Km in that week. We are now back to typical April weather, which we call British spring. One advantage we have is Ice Skating, ideal exercise for climbing.
Well done Leonard…never easy going from 7 to 21 degrees never mind the route and how hilly. You may want to get rid of that 36 inch television on your handlebars though 😂😂😂
You're correct on that little section at 5.50 where you say it almost feels flat. But the strange thing is, is that on the way back you really pick up speed on that same section of road.
nice one Leonard, that was a tough ride, well done, beautiful location - I would have taken a chill and sat by the sea instead of hitting a climb too! - enjoy the rides and soak up that sunshine :)
My days the weather looks amazing skies so clear. Loving the music in the video. Will you be using your insta360 camera to a 360 video during one of your bike rides that would be soo cool 😎
Inspiring and thanks for such a candid view. I was taken to Pollencia as a teenager (now in mid-50's). I'd love to try this. May I ask, did you take your own bike, if so, how did you manage the transfers and select where to stay? Also, did you find there were too many cyclists? Best regards, James.
If anyone deserves good weather it is you, Leonard with lousy British climes. Here in Toronto, we had sunny, 24C last week and few teens. I was in Mallorca 7 years ago and loved it.
First spring rides after skiing (and eating a lot) all winter suck SO MUCH 😂 I know it is getting better and better from here but damn, what a torture April rides are.
Hi Leonard, excellent video, the weather looks mind blowing compared to the disaster we have here! I now live in Northern Ireland having moved from sunny Sussex, so the weather can be even more depressing here, made worse being a 'fair weather" cyclist! Could I ask what bike bag or case do you use o your travels please? Another great video I have to say! Hope you're totally recharged after your break! Take care. 😁😁😁
Mallorca is definitely on my bucket list. It's just a long way from Australia! Kudos for deciding you had had enough for the day. "Man's gotta know his limitations" - Dirty Harry (Magnum Force)
Just discovered your channel: really enjoying the videos and the scenery around Alcudia. Can I ask what size Godfrey clothing you wear? Are the Altura sizes the same? I'm a bigger guy and really struggle finding stuff that fits. Thanks.
I’m in Madrid now. Warmer than northern Canada. Rented my bike yesterday. Trying to get up the courage to get on the bike. The area I’m in is dense with pedestrians and traffic. I want to do the Ruta El Pardo (40-km) that goes up into the mountains, but I first have to navigate out of the dense maze. I’m used to empty spaces and wide roads with very few people. Real culture shock right now. So many people.
Hair-raising trying to ride on roads, but once out of the city there were some beautiful bike paths, trails, and unused roads up into the mountains and back along the river. I also discovered the safer riding roads are to the west, not the east which is where I started off. Tomorrow I’m heading to a near wilderness park (to the west so roads should be good) that has over a 100 km of trails.
Well done for sharing everything and not just the highs. There’s no shame in not completing something with so much climbing and heat that you’re not currently used to. Probably my favourite video, not because you’ve struggled but because I totally relate to it. Keep up the good work

1000kms in a single week is one hell of an achievement. Well done.
Well done Leonard…never easy going from 7 to 21 degrees never mind the route and how hilly. You may want to get rid of that 36 inch television on your handlebars though 😂😂😂
What and miss all my favourite programmes???
You're correct on that little section at 5.50 where you say it almost feels flat. But the strange thing is, is that on the way back you really pick up speed on that same section of road.
And not only do you pick up speed on that section you can actually see just how steep it really is.
@@jollygoodvelo A very scenic optical illusion.
Real sh..t not these fancy supermen all can do videos! Thanks for sharing! Great job and TRUE inspiration for all of us aka normal folk
Keep going, Leonard and have a great trip.
Will do!
nice one Leonard, that was a tough ride, well done, beautiful location - I would have taken a chill and sat by the sea instead of hitting a climb too! - enjoy the rides and soak up that sunshine :)
Hey Afzal, I did that while I was waiting to be picked up.
@@jollygoodvelo it looked like a nice spot to chill and do the piece to camera while waiting - you should have had an ice-cream! enjoy, ride on!
@@A_AAA232 I had more than an ice cream: a couple of emergency beers.
@@jollygoodvelo proper cyclist hydration - don't leave it until an emergency next time, plan them into the ride :)
Well done!!
My days the weather looks amazing skies so clear. Loving the music in the video. Will you be using your insta360 camera to a 360 video during one of your bike rides that would be soo cool 😎
Sadly, I won’t be using the 360 camera this trip; it’s not easy when riding with a group.
What a beautiful place to ride.😃🚴🏾😎
Inspiring and thanks for such a candid view. I was taken to Pollencia as a teenager (now in mid-50's). I'd love to try this. May I ask, did you take your own bike, if so, how did you manage the transfers and select where to stay? Also, did you find there were too many cyclists? Best regards, James.
I hired a bike locally. It makes transfers much easier (and cheaper).
If anyone deserves good weather it is you, Leonard with lousy British climes. Here in Toronto, we had sunny, 24C last week and few teens. I was in Mallorca 7 years ago and loved it.
I’m loving the sun.
First spring rides after skiing (and eating a lot) all winter suck SO MUCH 😂
I know it is getting better and better from here but damn, what a torture April rides are.
well done i will be there 2 may really looking forward to the cycling
Enjoy!
awesome though and inspiring me! maybe Mallorca someday...
Definitely a place to ride.
Take care. 😁😁😁
Spectacular scenery. I am pretty tired of riding in Thailand. How do I get to Mallorca?😊
I would guess fly from
Bangkok to Amsterdam, Amsterdam to Palma.
@@jollygoodvelo More Tongue in cheek actually, but honestly would love riding there.
Thanks.
Both Godfrey and Altura have sizing guides on their websites but as a general rule of thumb, I wear XXLs from both and they fit me just fine.
@@jollygoodvelo Thanks.
Nice ride 😊👍🏻👍🏻
It was. The weather was great. Shame I ran out of energy.
Don't beat yourself up. Most blokes your size couldn't do half what you're capable of doing.
It was a tough ride!
Or even, most people half your size couldn't do half what you're doing. Respect 👏🏻
That is beautiful! Do you have luggage to transport your bike on the airplane?
Normally you can pack you bike in a box or a bag but for this trip I hired a bike locally.
