Shot clock violation is a team stat anyway. Even if it wasn't, you can't really blame the player for not wanting an unnecessary negative stat. If that's really why they're passing the ball around like that and not taking the shot at the end of quarters, then the problem is with the NBA rules. A fair point, but the video shows guards literally ripping rebounds away from their rebounders when in reality they could've run on the break and let the rebounder get it to them. It goes either way but depends on the intent of the guard

Kobe always shot the ball before the quarter ended, whether half court or whole court, because his thinking was he could still make that shot. Unfortunately, those were counted as misses that affected his shooting percentage, which is always taken against him as to why he isn't the GOAT. Well, he isn't a cheap stat-padder like most modern superstars. He played to win, not to beef up his stat sheet.

This is nothing new. This is the way it is all the way from high school, starting with the head coach. Pad the player's stats, get scouts interested, then get the players scholarships into Universities. Head coach takes a job as a professional league scout, players get into college-level sports programs, and the team never even has to make it to the playoffs, even after a decade. My high school had a football team where 1 player made it into the NFL, and 2 players made it into the NBA. The team didn't make it to the playoffs. If one of the lead starters were on the bench for a breather, and you got the ball and did well, you were benched for the rest of the season.
I've never ever understood why they never play the last possession in the NBA. I find that disrespectful. You play ball until the end, no matter the score.
Players doing this is a result of the talking heads/fans care about. Stats. People don’t watch every game of a player, so when they see he got 50% FG for a game vs. 33%, all they fixate on is that number without understanding the context. The players do this out of necessity because in reality, we force them to do so.
This is sad to know but it's a price to pay for our entertainment. Cause when playoffs comes around, individual stats don't matter if it can't translate to a win and players knows this.
mabse3 were also gonna ignore how DJ Augustin was closing in on Russ when he passed half court, so it’s also possible Westbrook passed so they could go for any last minute steal. It’s also possible he was avoiding a turnover like the guy said, but it isn’t fair to just assume that’s what he was doing.
Austin Ballard you’re so right! people are so stupid. Just because someone’s 1 rebound, assist, or whatever away from a triple double they’re called a stat padder because they’re trying to get the triple double? So having something like 20pts, 15 asts, 12 rbds, is easy? They spent the whole game solely trying to stat pad?
"Almost kills Luka" 1. He didn't see him, as his eyes were up at the ball and not on him. 2. Its his duty to grab boards, as a center. 3. He tbh saved him from getting hurt worse

Basketball is a team sport. Now, its all about individual. There are no more news titles like: "Rockets beats Spurs". No, now its: "Harden's 53pts drowned KD and SC". In that case, make NBA 1on1 and give Harden a ball. MJ would never be a GOAT without Pipen, Kukoc, Rodman. Without Bulls.
100% agree.. and most people forget to credit the head of the team(coach) and the staff.. MJ won 6-0 in all his nba finals but I think will not be possible w/o the brilliancy of the greatest coach Phil Jackson.
Who scores the other 50 points for the rockets lmao and have you watched the warriors they play really unselfish if kd and SC drop 30 each still need teammates to already put up 40-50 you need your teammates to play d and hit shots so harden can score 50 still a team game just the teams are constructed differently. However I must admit with the emphasis on the 3 ball it's alot of standing and waiting for the kick out
@@OJGLOVE The league has become soft and you can't play defense anymore so of course it becomes a huge advantage to a team with guys that can shoot like Curry and Harden. If you were still allowed to make a little contact their numbers wouldn't be as high
@@OJGLOVE Answer to your question is: other 15 players. So, in average, that's 3 pts per player vs. 40 per Harden. Technically, these kind of players needs other players to pass them the ball. I agree about other players from other teams (took Harden, last season that would be Westbrook and so on) and yeah teams are indeed constructed differently - towards players not team. We will see what will happen next. I understand this "team construction" is made for fans and they want heroes, but there is a little problem - basketball is a team game.
I’ve noticed this for years... why would they shoot from the other side of the court?? Analytics tell u not to do that. Also players obviously care about personal stats because they get personal bonus payments. All players don’t get endorsements off the court. Bonuses add up!!
You shoot from the other side of the court at the end of the quarter because there is no negative consequences and only a chance of a positive outcome...unless you care more about your stats enough to value not having a missed shot over the potential of 3 points that could be the difference between winning and losing. You should ALWAYS shoot at the end of the quarter to give yourself a chance at points...unless you're stat padding.
Uh its called a buzzer beater when you are on the other side and 1 second left you have no choice but to shoot and get some points especialy when you are down or tied.
Denton Lewis i stole rebounds from my teammates because you go up for the ball, you don’t look around and Harden and Westbrook both run the floor so why would they waste 2 seconds letting someone else grab the board when they can get it and go coast to coast. if they let the center get the board, that’s going to take time and they won’t have numbers on the break. players also don’t get turnovers against them for shot clock violations, so this whole video is useless, the only thing it pointed out was the players at the end trying to get a triple double.
that's what michael jordan said that stats don't mAtter in defining the legacy of greatness,,stats will matter to the next generation that doesn't know the player, the most important is winning and how you win it,,
if i'm winning by thirty with 4 minutes left in the game i'm not finna play like i'm losing by five In the 4th quarter with 2 minutes left. And you cant say it's a blowout because U think I should play hard regardless
On the rebounding concept... As a former guard and a present coach, I would like to defend my guys Westbrook and Harden only for the simple fact that when a guard chases a rebound it's USUALLY instinct to push the pace never to intentionally "steal" rebounds. Faster transition offense is the outcome. Steven Adams and Clint Capela are not throwing full court Kevin Love heaves so why let them slow down the pace? Because it's their job? Their job is to also to play to the pace of the game and if the guard decides to turn the gear from 3 to 10 in a matter of seconds best believe they need to sprint they big ass down the court, rim run, and get a putback. Now on the other hand, when Westbrook hustles for rebounds with 125% effort in the last 2 minutes of a game, that is stat padding. When a few times this season the Rockets have been up 15+ in the last minute or 20+ by the 4th quarter and still give Harden the ball to chase the 30 or 40 point game, that is also stat padding. But following a coaches gameplan is never stat padding.
I disliked because he made a video where brainless idiots think russell westbrook is trash because he is "statpadding". I watched all okc games since 2015 and westbrook is just playing basketball, don't blame him for getting high stats its just smarter if he gets the rebound to run the fastbreaks quicker.
Ultimate Infestationiro Kripperino this video is stupid and he just wants views, on the Deandre Jordan rebound it looked like he was looking at the ball the whole time same thing with russ. if he actually played basketball before he’d know that you dont always see others when going for a board. Like Russ u gotta assume everyone who jumps for the rebound is on the other team, cz otherwise you ease back and then the other team gets a board and potentially a bucket
You know I watch the nba religiously and I never knew they did that stuff even though I would hear the commentators say that they dont want missed attempts on there stats, I knew Russell, Harden, Blatche, and the Rookie Davis did it but seeing how salary cap and TV deals have gone up players want to get paid, analytics have ruin the game, if you're a superstar, champion or a top player in the league then they dont have to worry about not getting paid but for the rest they gotta do everything possible example look at the wizards
24 seconds shot clock violation is counted as a team turnover not a player turnover. As for it, players don't get these in their stats.. First learn some rules bro..
You should do a video on Adbul Rauf a player that got shut out by the NBA bc of his religions beliefs, he dropped 40+ on Jordan and the Bulls and 51 on John Stockton. Horrible act by the NBA he was a young Stephen Curry!
Players in the NBA should be focused on winning. If a player goes all out, they should be able to beat any team (even the Warriors). LeBron was almost able to do this without Kyrie in Game 1 of the NBA Finals before George Hill bricked 2 free throws and JR made a boneheaded play. Even then, LeBron could have played better (not to dismiss the insane plays he made during the game). My point is, if a player goes all out and gives it their 110% on the court, he should be able to win a game against any team. It’s sad to see players like Russell Westbrook not giving their teammates chances to make these plays, and that is why I believe that Paul George is a better player that Russell Westbrook, because Russell only cares about his stats and will do anything for them, not the wins.
Well the league and the media has made the game all about stats and championships. The MVP award is now the stat machine award and you're legacy is hit hard of you don't have a chip. This is determined by everyone else, not the players.
Imagine what Steph's Curry's FG% would be if he didn't take those 50 foot heaves-- some of which, especially in 2015-16, go in. But at the end of a quarter, it's ALWAYS the correct thing to do, and the only downside is one's own stats. Kudos to Steph for sacrificing his stats for the off chance that one goes in and helps his team.
I find These Statpadder arguments Alexas a Bit Dumb, behause of or was super easy to do everyone would do or triple doubles, or high rebound Numbers or assits etc etc. Sure there is like 1 less fg missed or sth but still think that is crying on a really thin subject
Maxime they attempt to pad stats when they are already lose to a triple double or another high value stat total. They work hard legit for most of the game, then stat pad when they are close to the big number instead of trying to seal victory.

@@MrErnieHanks i said it sucks not that it was difficult. bruh my original comment is a short af paragraph and you still couldn't comprehend what i wrote. is the struggle that real for you?
This has to be addressed, after each game these very turnovers / missed shots should be exempt so it doesn’t effect their stats, in addition I think if in that 1/20 chance the ball goes in on a buzzer beater that shot should count positively towards their numbers to reward the player for taking that shot
Dude said "heres an in depth view itd the dark side of the nba" its only 4 minutes long and half of it was bashing Westbrook saying the generic stat padding line lol
Heat check, I know this video is a few months old, but I work in athletic communications as a job. The program used to keep stats is called statcrew. A shot clock violation at any point counts a team turn over regardless of when during the game it happens. Your point of those heaving shots, are just players trying to shoot a shot that no one can rebound, however if they miss it, it still goes in the program as a missed 3-pointer. Lastly, if you shoot at your own basketball like that and catch the ball, it doesn’t count as anything, the other team never had possession, there for shooting on that basketball would mean nothing in the program. Almost everything you stated in this video proves you have no idea how Stat keeping works.
Millions of dollars on the line for the teammate you give the ball to as well then. I mean it's your right to be a selfish greedy b*tch but at least don't be proud of it, keep it to yourself
@@oliviercolletaz5841 Yea I guess you could put it that way. But, however, the player you pass the ball to might not have any turnovers because it is the end of the game and that player isn't worth a max deal. A player like Russ, who has a high usage rate and therefore a high turnover rate, will be affected by one extra turnover as it makes him look even worse than he already does. The players on the court are going to role players, so 1 turnover on the stat sheet for them isn't such a big deal. It depends on who you pass to, because lower valued contracts go to less skilled players and vice versa. So, if you pass to somebody who isn't very good, then it might not affect them very much because they most likely to not have any turnovers at all.
@@ruben4180 how can you convince yourself that it's better for players who earn less money and have no leverage whatsoever in front of nba owners/general managers to get the TO's than russ who is already worshipped by the entire organisation is beyond me. just stop. not only you make no sense on the "who risks more financially" but you don't even mention what kind of horrendous sportsmanship, and leadership it is.
This notion is so insane. You have to willingly not watch any rockets games to have this opinion. You can look at the bucks game where they started guarding harden from behind his left hip as proof. Harden was forced to share constantly, but his team just couldn’t bail him out so he ended with 40+ points and 6 assists. This is literally the argument of the video that you’re just looking at stats and not the real game. Congratulations, you played yourself.

Players doing this is a result of the talking heads/fans care about. Stats.
People don’t watch every game of a player, so when they see he got 50% FG for a game vs. 33%, all they fixate on is that number without understanding the context.
The players do this out of necessity because in reality, we force them to do so.

In that case, make NBA 1on1 and give Harden a ball. MJ would never be a GOAT without Pipen, Kukoc, Rodman. Without Bulls.

I agree about other players from other teams (took Harden, last season that would be Westbrook and so on) and yeah teams are indeed constructed differently - towards players not team.

Oh boy here we got Larry K, the all star player, trying to let everyone he played basketball 15 years ago. We get it Larry.
people that make videos talking crap about the NBA, don’t play basketball.

The ugly side of the NBA is that the players dont play hard for the full game regardless of the score.

if i'm winning by thirty with 4 minutes left in the game i'm not finna play like i'm losing by five In the 4th quarter with 2 minutes left.
Why not let them rebound and pass the ball to harden or westbrook whos closer to halfcourt?

No it's not it's all about stats so you can make it to the NBA
So what happens if the player going all out is playing against another player going all out?
MS24 so if all of the Warriors are going all out against the Nets, who wins?
srj34 exactly. 😂😂
Westbrook makes winning plays
Thts why were on a 7 game win streak bout ti be 8 today
Well the league and the media has made the game all about stats and championships. The MVP award is now the stat machine award and you're legacy is hit hard of you don't have a chip. This is determined by everyone else, not the players.
Imagine what Steph's Curry's FG% would be if he didn't take those 50 foot heaves-- some of which, especially in 2015-16, go in. But at the end of a quarter, it's ALWAYS the correct thing to do, and the only downside is one's own stats. Kudos to Steph for sacrificing his stats for the off chance that one goes in and helps his team.

Stat should count the last waiting ball. They hold the ball on purpose.
Sale CNC I agree. Add that stat and count shots put up past half court as a separate statistic. Problem solved.
