Ahhhh I was worried hard pruning was going to kill my kalanchoe but I'm so glad for these videos of yours! Question: I have a kalanchoe that's growing upwards very nicely. I had cut off some stalk today that was dragging down and sideways. (Wished I saw this video before I threw them away 🤦🏻‍♀️) if I want mine bushier, would I prune off the leaves at the top? I received this second kalanchoe last Christmas and it barely bloomed. I like it shorter and bushier but ti's getting tooooo tall. Any advice would be great! Thanks!

so to get the leaves to get bigger you prune them? i tried the box method to try to get blooms but instead they got leggy i guess they were too young to get blooms now i have to prune i guess

I find that the leaf size tends to be smaller initially after pruning. Less light will actually encourage larger leaves (so they can capture more light) but will also lead to leggy growth.

ah there it is already^^ I was considering, as soon as the cuttings have rooted, to put all of them together with the main plant in pumice, you ever tried that? It's kinda like this Lecca (don't know how it's spelled) you use here, just heavier. Show some of your favourite plans some time, I always find at least one addition to my 'to get'-list from those kinda videos^^ my newest purchase and 'new favourite' is my Fatsia japonica 'spiderweb', exceptionally beautiful foliage.

I've never tried pumice but I imagine this plant will do very well in semi-hydro as long as you supply it with a balanced diet of micro/macro nutrients! My favorite has to Foliage Pro by Dyna Gro. I always like to stick extra cuttings in for a bushier appearance. I have several cuttings in my Trebuii to give it a fuller look!

I bought a Kal in a Long Life pot but it has the container sitting in water. That seems to go against things I have read about watering.

I am going to try hard pruning like you did on mine because mine are leggy and not blooming

I followed your video to cut back mine, and propagated the bits and pieces. Should they flower on their own or do you have to do anything? Also, it's been a few weeks and the props already started blooming new leaves, but the mama plant is taking a bit longer. Is this normal?

I also did a check in today on the plant, and I'm seeing some of the propagates didn't take and started rotting, but the same black rot is at the tips of the plant where I cut it. I sanitized my scissors when I did it, so I don't know what's causing this.

Does pruning it also encourage blooming? I've had mine for 2 years now and it never rebloomed, just grew very leggy.😅

Hi there! If its leggy, it probably needs more light. I don't find pruning to encourage blooming in my Kalanchoe but I would start with increasing light and heat if it has been in a colder/darker spot. Good luck!

I just found your channel and love it! As others have said, you gave me the courage to prune mine. How long do you let the cuttings callous? I think I heard you say a few weeks, but I’m not sure. Thank you!

Aw, I'm so glad! Thank you for the kind words!
For these, I don't always let them callus. As long as they're healthy (and sometimes, even if they're not), I usually just stick them right into water or whatever medium I'm using after a few minutes. I sometimes seal them with powder rooting hormones to reduce the risk but not always. Personally, I've never had an issue with rot with these. I have found pieces that have fallen off that I haven't noticed that have taken to soil just fine after weeks, so these tend to be pretty forgiving. Happy planting!

Please tell me what the thing is that keeps the plant from wobbling as I could not clearly hear what it was called. Thank you for all the information. I just started to prune my Kal plant and the info was very helpful.

Hi there! Are you talking about the round balls to stabilize the cuttings? I used leca. They also come in irregular shapes as well. They're mostly used in hydroponic growing. Hope that helps!

Bonnie, search for "clay pebbles" or "clay pebbles for plants."
