Dude good video! I just ordered one of these and will be at my house in 2 days. I will be uploading a video of me installing an SSD and recording the intire process...this video is super helpful. Thanks!

I'll make a review within a month. If you use the SSD in combination with an HDD then the 128GB will be plenty for windows and a few primary programs. It would ideal to have an SSD as the boot drive and the HDD for data if budget is not your concern.
Awesome Video! My OEM hard drive failed and only boots via USB (Ubuntu Linux). If the Seagate Hard Drive is installed, does it automatically boot in Windows or will I have to install an OS of my choice (Windows or Linux)? Thanks Noodle
Hey man, love the videos. I'm new to windows and computer upgrades. I bought this computer and intend on replacing the memory, putting in an m2 ssd and an ssd to replace the hdd. Do I need to put in the m2 first, transfer windows, then replace the hdd, or can I do it all at once and download windows 10? What would be easier?
No, I don't think you can do everything all at once. From what I've read, you need some third party tools to clone your Windows copy onto the new SSD, which requires two drives to be installed simultaneously. To save time, however, after you Install the M.2. SATA SSD, you don't have to screw the bottom casing back in place so you can quickly get the HDD out once the clone is complete. You can take a look at this guide: www.backup-utility.com/windows-10/transfer-oem-windows-10-to-new-hard-drive.html .
Thanks for the fast response! I like the videos, they are short and to the point with good information! I would just say, work on the lighting a little bit, the b-roll and close-ups with samples of what you're talking about. it's a little more effort, but ups the production value a lot!
Hey, I am new to opening up laptops and just recently I opened up the back of my laptop, added ram and now it won’t start up. If there any way this can be fixed ASAP?
It's hard to tell exactly what went wrong. Maybe you can start with removing the RAM you added, and see if the laptop starts? If that's the case, the new RAM could be incompatible or installed incorrectly.
What do you do if your Vivobook model has no HDD socket? In mine there is just an empty space where your HDD is !? 😕 I would like to put in one more SSD into my machine. It's the 530 model I've got
If there isn't a SATA connector where the HDD would be, I don't think it's possible to add in a second hard drive. But I doubt if that's really the case. There is likely a SATA connector without a hard drive casing to hold the drive in place on the motherboard. In that cade, you'd need to find a compatible hard drive casing for your model and then install the drive. If there actually isn't a SATA port where the hard drive would be, one way to expand the storage would be just backing up your files and buying a bigger M.2. SATA SSD. A 1TB drive right now goes for about $160, and you can sell the old one online.
Hy! Thak you for video! You amazing! This file contains the boardview, ok? You can provide the eletrical diagram of the Motherboard or the pwm, please? Have a great day!
Is that slot only for the HDD? I had my HDD fail and I need to replace with the SSD I bought, but are they both stored in the same drive and just partitioned? If I remove that drive, am I removing my smaller SSD which holds the OS as well?
The big slot is for a 2.5 inch SATA HDD or SSD. The small vertical slot is for M.2. SATA SSD only. If your HDD failed you can choose to replace it with a 2.5 in SSD that has the same size and fits in the same slot. Or you can choose to add a smaller M.2. SATA SSD and leave the big 2.5-inch slot empty.
I don't see any air intake vents on the back panel. Do you think this is a bad design choice that would cause overheating issues - or is the narrow side vents good enough?
hello. i'm using this laptop for school and i need faster ssd. i will add extra m.2 ssd and keep this hdd. what ssd would you recommend? also does adding any 2400MHz ram work of should i look for specific ram stick to add?
Any 2400mhz RAM should work as long as it's DDR4L (the form factor of the RAM). Right now the WD Blue SATA M2 SSD just got cheaper on Amazon, and you can grab a 500GB one at $80 and a 1TB model at $140. I recommended it to a friend and he's very happy with the speeds on his Asus Zenbook Flip S.
Yes I think so if the SSD isn't installed on the 2.5 inch slot usually used for HDDs. You can use task manager to check your SSD model and look up its form factor.
Sir I want to connect my laptops HDD with my PC. Am having a vacant SATA cable in my PC. What about power supply, can I use the power cable coming from the smps, Or the power rating of this particular HDD drive?
As long as you can find a power cable in your PC that fits the drive's SATA power connector you should be good. Usually the cable comes from the power supply in your PC.
@@orthogonal_eigs No, I tried to insert another 2.5 hdd from old laptop and it has ~9.5mm vs 7mm asus hdd and...doesn't fit. So it's important to know thickness of new hdd/ssd before buying. Unfortunatelly, official specs don't provide this information and we have to disassemble laptop to check this moment. I've already checked - our laptop has 7mm hdd.
I searched online and couldn't find an article about where the CMOS battery is or how to replace it. But chances are that there is one hidden somewhere, but Asus doesn't think that you would normally replace it. The battery should last 5-10 years, by which time you probably will have stopped using the laptop.
The computing performance will be the same, but the loading times of the system and apps are greatly improved. For example, updating Windows with an SSD will be quicker and will allow you to quickly open other things simultaneously; with an HDD, a Windows update will essentially freeze the hard drive, which makes it extremely slow to even use the file explorer.
The 128 GB SSD is generally good enough. Since you can store the stuff you don't access frequently onto the hard drive, you will usually have enough room for the OS and important programs on the SSD.

I'm sorry I didn't quite understand your question. My understanding is that you installed the SSD alongside the HDD but couldn't boot from the SSD. The M.2. SATA SSD shouldn't need a driver for the laptop to recognize it. If you have installed Windows 7 on it, then you can try going into the BIOS and select the SSD as your boot drive. I don't remember how to go into the BIOS and set the boot drive but there should be plenty of tutorials online.
I installed Win 7 x64 on M.2 SATA SSD and can boot from it with no problems. But there are no drivers for Win 7. Like chipset, audio, network and all others. P.S. There is no HDD inside, just M.2 with Win 7 on it.
@@djMusicKey I'm not sure how to deal with the driver problem. Asus shipped the laptop with Windows 10, so the drivers aren't designed for Windows 7.
