Ccroquette is such a great artist , knowing her in person and seeing her draw in real time really demonstrate how good she is with colours and rendering. 😻
Personally I think Ccroquette's rendering was based on lighting because the reflected light made the drawing look more jelly. I think they started by desaturated and soft colours continuing with more dark and saturated colours. Before the reflected light they added dark colours to show the shadow from the main light which made the drawing look jelly. They increased the saturation of reflected light if object is close. The main secret in the rendering was the light but you choose the picture where was no actual place the light came from. If the shadows of the clothes and hair would be more darker it will look better But the drawing was really cute and I like it!❤
How cute! "Rendering. A technique I have been actively been trying to avoid since I started digital art" made me smile. Girly, all complex things are rendered in some way, and a lot of the softer styles do include lineart, its just more transparent and changes colors sometimes. I don't know if you've experimented with it yet or not, but if you add a layer above your lineart and change it to clipping and blending mode multiply you can select the color of the flats you used nearby and color the lineart on this layer to make the lineart blend into the color of the skin a bit better. Similar to useing a more neutral color for a lineart color.
I think you should be bolder with the colors. Ccroquette uses bold color contrasts with shading that really allow her pieces to pop. I think what you did on the leaves is a good example of this. Maybe not having a defined light source hindered you being able to have darker stronger shadows.
I appreciate the feedback, and I completely agree. I was kind scared to layer bolder colors but I will use this feedback in future drawings. Thank you so much!!
I had to pause for a moment when you mentioned rendering was a technique you were actively trying to avoid because it sounded like a huge mistake. Rendering is simply digital painting, taking a sketch to a polished piece that has volume and definition. In laymans, giving 2D art 3D qualities. It's not this secret advanced thing, don't worry!! Just because a lot of professional artists use advanced rendering techniques doesn't mean rendering itself is extrmely difficult! :D
When I said rendering, I meant the advanced kind 😭. Ik rendering itself is a broad term but I was talking about the kind that anime artists like yeej chan and WLOP use. But thank you sm for watching!!

i believe she use a lot flat color then she blend them that why we can see some "soft things" and she push her rendering and play with the complementary color, such as warm with cold like warm could be orange and cold blue ; warm red with green cold ect... So at the end it's the rendering she put make her art special :) she use basics theory and semi-realistic rendering and a composition for her art :) And then she apply doll skin on their character. ^^
