Did You Know In DOCTOR WHO…

- That composers on the show used a strange method to create the sound of the iconic Tardis spaceship? There are many iconic sights and sounds in the hit BBC show Doctor Who, but perhaps none are more famous than the one emitted by the Tardis. As is often the case for iconic sounds in TV and Film, the simplest methods are sometimes the best when it comes to creating these sounds. For the Tardis, the show’s composers used a simple method of combining the rubbing of the key and bass strings on a piano together. For those Doctor Who fans who don’t know what the Tardis stands for, it is actually an acronym for Time and Relative Dimension in Space.

Should have played the sound for non-doctor who fans
Instead of saying what it stands for which is irrelevant for the video topic
I agree that would have been better and keyed in the whole point of the clip
And for the doctor who fans
"For those Doctor Who fans who don't know what the TARDIS stands for"
Bruh-
Bruh-
Tardis means
Tethered aerial release developed in style
saying a doctor who fan doesn't know what TARDIS stands for is quite frankly something a slitheen would say
@@bladeraptor1 fr
Exactly...wonder if he knows it makes that noise because the Doctor leaves the brakes on 🤣
“Did you know in doctor who-“
Me: PROBABLY BUT IM LISTENINGGGG
So you don't play the sound, you don't explain that actual method, and you don't namedrop Delia Derbyshire. Fantastic.
Doctor: **makes TARDIS noises**
River: Stop leaving the breaks on!
Doctor: Never in all my lives!
Than: researches and explains the origin of the sound.
Us, who actually know it: "It's the breaks"
Actually, it's the relative dimensional stabiliser in materialisation phase as used in the time ships of the gods.
Just one more reason why Steven Moffat should never have been let anywhere near Doctor Who.
Moffatt shouldn’t have written that: sometimes he’s an idiot.
The sound brings hope, why wouldn't I leave the breaks on
TARDIS has multiple acronyms:
Time And Relative Dimension In Space,
Tethered Areal Release Developed In Style,
Totally And Radically Driving In Space
And all of them are correct!
Nope. Only Time And Relative Dimension In Space is correct.
Susan made TARDIS up from the initials.
@@Poliss95did you ever watch the capaldi era bruh?
@explorermap it's a joke
Bro's script is worse than a 6th grader trying to hit the 500 word mark on an essay topic he knows nothing about
He knows its "time and relative dimension in space" and not dimensions in space so he knows more than most whovians lol
It only makes that noise because the doctor left a handbrake on
That's proved wrong in the TARDIS users manual, a book written by the BBC
One of Moffat's many silly, self-indulgent and unnecessary retcons that don't make sense. It's not even true in his episodes, when Time Lords fly TARDISes they make the same noise
@@greenberry6019Headcannon: They all love it
@@zrc1514 that's actually hilarious.
New headcanon: the inventor of the silencer on TARDISes was Omega, so every single Time Lord keeps the brakes on just to spite him. River's the only person in history to fly a TARDIS properly.
Doctor/River bants
Its not just a spaceship. Better to call it a time machine
I'm still thinking on how they made the cloister bell
talks about the noise. explains the noise.
yet no noise.
The TARDIS dematerialization sound was actually created by Delia Derbyshire of the "BBC's Radiophonic Workshop" running a bunch of metal door keys up and down the exposed strings in the back of an upright piano in 1963!
🤔
Nope. She realised Ron Grainer's theme. Brian Hodgson created the dematerialisation noise using a Yale key on a piano string.
"It's called Thetarded." - my uncle who has never watched Professor Person in Quesion
Yeah I found that out the other day
1963 Tardis Take off was created by the BBC Radiophonic workshop the person who created had used his old back door key on the stripped back of a piano recorded it and treated the sound. All done pre synthesized technology
Mhm, been watching the show since elementary school. Never knew what TARDIS stood for, thanks for the heads up. /j
It's been mentioned several times, from way back at the beginning.
Not a piano key. A house key.
Literally everyone knows this 💀
The sound of hope
Yes, TARDIS stands for 'time and relative dimension in space' but it also stands for *"totally and radically driving in space"*
the sound it makes on landing are the brakes, the Doctor loves the sounds so much he leaves the brakes on
Everyone says this but the masters tardis in both classic and new who makes the same or similar noise, I hate that a one time joke changed it from being the actual engine noise to the doctor being an idiot
It's the relative dimensional stabiliser in materialisation phase as used in the time ships of the gods. (See Underworld).

It was a Front door Key scrapping up a piano wire then the sound slowed down
Wow I haven’t been a a Doctor Who fan for 40 years, no way I know that’s was TARDIS stands for, I guess you learn something new everyday 😂😂😂😂😂😂
“So you ain’t English, sir” in Tate’s voice.
I know this already im big fan of doctor who
Christopher eccleston explained what time what the tardis stood for which is relative dimension in space see I'm not stupid I actually listened doesn't mean I understand all of it but I get the basics relative to mentioned in space which I think is another form of physics in space
DIDNT K OW YOU WOULD TALK ABOUT DOCTOR WHO👀👀👀👀👀👀
Everyone who has this on their scroll knows what Tardis stands for...
Umm actually, it’s

Lmao.
"I understood that reference"
or Time And Relative Dimensions In Space or Tethered Ariel Release Developed In Style
Good old Jackson Lake
Reminder, the theme was made in the 60s
Haha I just use my app for the sound
Oh my how did us OG fans get by without the internet
Yesterdays news time to up your game
Well it's been invented 59 years ago with no budget. So yeah the simplest are the best
so this felt really repetitive and basic
They ran a key up a piano string and lowered the pitch 🤷🏼♂️ do the work so I don’t have to
Fella be here stating the obvious
If you don’t know what TARDIS stands for you’re not a true fan.
wrong its time and relavent dimensones in space
the couldn't be more bland and dosent explain anything really the tardis is more complex than this and so was the making watch and adventure in time and space for full details on how the show was made
I know everyone is saying it, but I don’t care….why didn’t you PLAY THE SOUND?!
Because it's copyright BBC.
They rubbed a coin on bass. Then the composers remixed the sound
You sound like you're talking to fill a certain amount of words. Every dw fan knows what the TARDIS is, you should cater more to the peoplr who aren't fans, or to those who are. You're in a really weird middle where you're talking to fans, but like we've never seen it.
And don't write your scripts like you have a word quota, it really makes it hard to watch. It feels like you're trying to reach the 10 minute mark, when you don't have to on shorts. Its not a bad video, you can clearly edit quite well!
Some people, like Vicki, think it's Time And Relative Dimensions In Space.
@@Poliss95 You're right, its clearly Totally And Radically Driving In Space
@@Foolishly_Royalty Vicki added the 's' to Dimension when Susan clearly just said 'Dimension'.
No, The Doctor just leaves the breaks on to make that noise.

Yeah until Disney decides to use their special effects and and take away the magic of how the show used low budget stuff
