This is quite a change from the first album (the deal) but i really enjoy it! SOOO SLOW at the start, and absolutely pummeling. I'm still convinced that Nick has the greatest drum set on the planet too! And if you get a chance to talk to them they're the kindest human beings ever.
Idk the boys in The Body are the nicest dudes I’ve ever personally met (thus far) in tHe ScEnE. That’s some real contenders FOR SURE I’d love to meet these dudes tho
So damn good, it paints such a vivid picture. I cannot wait until to hear it live, hopefully this track will tie me over until June. Proud to have Sumac in the NW!
Came back to this. I've lost my passion for music and don't listen to it as much as I used to, or in the same way, but I keep coming back to this band. They're just good. This is well written and well produced. Any complaints a person could have with it would have to be stylistic.
Sumac is just so massively heavy. It's crazy how defined their sound is already, they only have one album out but no one does it quite like them. These guys are each gods of their respective instruments.
Nick is awesome. Aaron is awesome. No one talks about Brian? He's the backbone of the first two. If you remove the bass from a song like this, 50% of its power is gone. So smooth, yet so brute. They're all so go(o)d damn!!! I don't know if Kurt mixed or just produced, but someone got sloppy at the low end... yet, pretty brooootal!
+Pedro Mau I think that's because of the low DB mastering's first impression, though. If you crank up the volume I believe you'll find plenty of low end.I was fooled at first, too.
Aha Tool! Scratched by Sumac! Better wear an official Tool t-shirt around Mr. Jones.... He doesn't take too kindly to individuals sporting knock-offs. No joke. You have been warned people!
+Jesse Haywood Actually on a closer listen it seems to be a low G. Could be G, F, Bb, Eb, G, bb, like Old Man Gloom's "Eden's Gates" or "Predator". C Standard, with the low down to G and the high C down to B flat. This is only following Aaron Turner's tuning pattern across his bands though.
+Joey Kiser Absolutely, I hear what you mean! The Torche trick is a string tuned to an indecipherable flabby mess once distorted through bigass amps. I too am guessing this, but I think it's choice select dissonance. Basically when you're playing guitar and hit a single note (in Sumac's case here), hit your lowest string and find the note an octave + one semitone up simultaneously. Total caveman terms and mightn't make sense but hey, it's a new age of heavy.
Sounds like its from thick to thin strings - AGCFAD Whole thing tuned down a step or even a semitone lower then that. But instead of drop C it's drop A like a seven string guitar. Melvins/Neurosis kinda tuning. Mastodons first LP Remission is entirely in that tuning... I could be wrong but it's a sic sound nonetheless.
I get what you mean, but I disagree. It is crushing, crisp, chaotic, ominous and dreadful; qualities that Meshuggah have wonderfully distilled.. but that doesn't mean that Meshuggah has carved out the entirety of music's depths. So I see how that comparison can be made, but it is a broad stroke. But opinions on music and music in general are so subjective, and that's kind of the fun of it all. (I imply that Meshuggah is "djenty" because later "djenty" band have been moving farther from those comparable traits.)
This here is prime example that you don't need breakneck speed, blast beats, widdly diddly guitar solos, low growls, drop A tuning to be "heavy". This has neither and this, THIS is heavy as fuck.
Aaron does sing in rather low growls, the guitar is tuned to some alternate drop A (and drop A#) tuning, at times they play at a considerable tempo, and "Will To Reach" has blast beats. Just sayin'.
Aaron Turner consistently makes the best music I've ever heard.
I acknowledge your opinion and agree 100%
And then you cover it :-)
Yes... He sure does. As well as surround himself with brilliant musicians.
Agree 137%
I'm feeling pretty rigid, man.
+davethehostage If condition lasts for more than seven hours, consult a doctor.
***** That's just crass.
Seriously though, if you listen any longer, you may experience permanent hearing damage.
The world needs this.
May You Be Held has Sumac reveling in the audio greatness they have achieved. Brilliant with grand purpose and emotion.
Sounds like music to my ears.
Perfect analogy
I'd be concerned if it didn't.
Holy fuck. Had no idea Sumac was recording anything yet. This is greatness.
EGC baritone absolutely kicks ass.
Im saving up for one right as I type this
Perfect amount of atmosphere and brutality. This next album is going to be crushing
Love sumac so much.
Came here after listening to he who sleeps by morbid angel and couldn’t help but feel it influenced this to a degree
Never thought of that, I hear it now.

i can't help listening to this song every day, but sumac can
so good
Aaron Turner's vocals explode my ovaries.
That comment made my day!
gross ;)
@@333espn thx
I cannot be the only one who thinks this almost has got a djent-y vibe soundwise (not to knock it, it is amazing). SUMACCAH!
So damn good, it paints such a vivid picture. I cannot wait until to hear it live, hopefully this track will tie me over until June.
Proud to have Sumac in the NW!
Bangin'
+Paulo Brasil me too
Still breaks me into pieces in 2020!
THIS IS SO FUCKING HEEEAVVYYYY!! Can´t wait to hear the rest of the album!
One of the best songs ive heard in a long time. \m/

Toxic Potato Mental illness, physical illness. Bad times. Oh well.
+Polyfusia Know what you mean, bro...been there...and I'm still fighting with that state sometimes
beautiful tone :), awesome stuff, that ending was amazing
Just found this, sooo goood!
Come to Brazil!
Sumac is just so massively heavy. It's crazy how defined their sound is already, they only have one album out but no one does it quite like them. These guys are each gods of their respective instruments.
It's not surprising given that each member is pretty accomplished in their own right.
I come from a shellac/jesus lizard/engine kid ball park of music. I don't dig metal generally. But this shit has awoken me.
Everything in your comment is same for me except thank you for making me check out engine kid. In turn I would like to suggest Blacklevel embassy.
Can't believe this is Metallica and Iron Maiden together in one band, really blows my mind. very cool
dude this is Lars' worst drum work yet
Bruce Dickinson's voice is alot lower in this band as well
L O W E N D F R E Q U E N C I E S
great shit ! can't wait for the album to come out
That ending is a beginning
this is not too bad, hope to see more of this in the future :)
I feel I'm like a cinder block being smashed by a sledgehammer listing to this !
This is fucking awesome, can't wait for the album to come out!
love
Let me also say that I feel like Brian Cook is incredibly overlooked. His bass tone really brings this band together.
Lol! One bass note, with terrrrrible muddy bass tone. What is there to like about the bass on this?
Nick is awesome. Aaron is awesome. No one talks about Brian? He's the backbone of the first two. If you remove the bass from a song like this, 50% of its power is gone. So smooth, yet so brute. Brian Cook is the best bass in metal, right now, and for the last couple of years, period....
+Carlos Hernandez-Araujo Amen brother!
I think no one really comments on him because he does not contribute to writing? correct me if im wrong
+Brendan Mackay We writes his own bass lines. Aaron doesn't write all the stuff.
Gahdamn. That's heavy
Girthiest of the girth right here
love The Deal but this one, its like a psychopath horror movie ambient, i dont know
this song break necks
The jizz...it's everywhere.
Oh hell to tha muthafukin yea!!!!!!!
Fucking hell man! I've never had my entire cabinet shake from low end like this before!
I like it.
Nasty good!!
FUCKING AWESOME!!! SUMAC RULES!
FUCKING heavy
Waiting for the new album...
Holy shit!
8:40
Holy shit.
This is the greatest song ever made. I want to apologize to Third Eye by Tool, you're a fantastic 2nd place in my mind
Aha Tool! Scratched by Sumac! Better wear an official Tool t-shirt around Mr. Jones.... He doesn't take too kindly to individuals sporting knock-offs. No joke. You have been warned people!
@@theodoredavidmooney5703 I met Mr Jones at a head shop on Haight'Ashbury in 2004. He's a cool duderino bro!
@@333espn yes... Unless you are wearing un-official Tool swag... Then it's up in the air which AJ you will get ...
This is great, and I love Turner’s work, but Third Eye isn’t going down that easily.
This is Heavy..
perfect!
I never thought they would be able to surpass Thorn in the Lion's Paw...
I was wrong.
All I can think of is that episode of Spongebob where Patrick's "parents" visited and when he caught on to them Janet was just like "Marty I'm scared"
HOLY FUCK !
Fuckin bestial track. Looking forward to this nightmare.
Balls... this music has BALLS!!
Great tone + dynamic and deep sound! Wonderful job Aaron & co.!
4:59 sounds like SGC2C lol
What tuning is this? It's awesome and heavy as fuck
+Jesse Haywood Cool man thanks
+Jesse Haywood idk though because that low muted note at the beginning sounds really low detuned like Torche or something but I'm just guessing
+Joey Kiser Absolutely, I hear what you mean! The Torche trick is a string tuned to an indecipherable flabby mess once distorted through bigass amps. I too am guessing this, but I think it's choice select dissonance. Fuck! That is the Goddamn shit!
Yo if anyones got the tabs for this or atleast the tuning it would be highly appreciated

I wonder if he's gone to a lower tuning than last effort??
Which bridge is that in the background?
That end is kinda djenty,am I right?
+Θάνος Μήτρας If it is, it's what djent should aspire to be.
totaly agreed!
I get what you mean, but I disagree. Damn this shit is heavy
I knew it would be good, but FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
next best thing after Corrupted. the world is saved.
Blast beats already out of style ya'll
godflesh!!!
Fucking HEEAAVVY!!!
Heavy as all fuck. I like it.

and there's literally a shred solo in this song.
Where's the music?
haha
anyone tell me bands with that music but with No vocals like that,,,,something with more normal voices
neurosis kinda has this but with cleaner vocals
