Thanks Stéphanie, I agree with everything you said, I am a 4 years stroke survivor. It is unprofessional for some doctors to assign a recovery time period. No matter how long the attack, what I found out is that every day there is some improvement, no matter how minimal, now I bathe, dry myself, dress up and able to finger my guitar a bit, with my affected left fingers. Nobody should give up, with any brain damage, every little improvement is BIG and a blessing, just like a child earning to walk or talk, it takes repeatition and determination.
My father had a stroke this year in January. Ischemic acute stroke. The dr said he'll recover in 6 months. Now it's been 10 months, he's barely walking and depressed too. It was unprofessional of him to say so. But we are trying our best, he's doing exercises all the time and that makes us worry. He's afraid he can't back to his work. He is in the forces. Pray everyone accepts the changes and be happy
I'm 3 yrs post echeamic with paralyzed left side and no means to have physio help.... Do I have any hope. Can my brain heal without help???? From SOUTH AFRICA 76 YRS OLD PRISCILLA
I'm not a Dr but I trust and believe in God and this is my belief,God can heal anyone at anytime,I've heard and seen people healed after 7 years or more ,the brain can always heal and find new pathways @priscilladamon,I will pray for you,Yahusha please heal your daughter show her you are the great physician.amen ,thank you Yahuah
Thank you both so much, this is exactly what I needed to hear. I'm 8 months post-stroke & have been feeling Discouraged because I'm not "better". Physically I'm much better but cognitively not so much. This conversation gives me so much hope! I will focus on the fact that I've made physical progress, not worry so much about my cognition, remember my "why", & yes double down on my PT & healthy habits!! 💯🙏💪
What a unique perspective Stephanie has being a PT and also a stroke survivor. These videos are extremely helpful for those with limited access to OT and PT. Thank you
Yes we appreciate it dearly!!!!!! I'm not ale to have O T ..just checking this kind of videos when possible..very encouraging!!!! too. and the guilt and shame of the paralyzes seems to dim..... Many people gives you a guilt complex that the fact that you're not recovered is laziness..which is devestating for your self image😢
Watching this video,l am believing that l will totally recover from my mild stroke watching someone who has been in my shoes before; she knows what is feels to be in that position.Praise God.😊
I can recommend trying MCT oil. A teaspoon every morning so that the liver produces ketones which the brain then uses as reserve fuel in addition to glucose. Big difference to my wife who had a stroke 6 months ago!! Like turning on and off a lamp. Greetings from Sweden.
Hello! We have only tried MCT oil from Coconut but I have read that the ones with the most C8 should work best. You notice when you take too much when you get loose in your stomach, so step it up over a period of time so that the bacteria in the gut learn to handle the oil.@@marziaserena4247
This is awesome news. Ive been trying to go carnivore and add mct oil in my coffee, i totally forgot about it, until you mentioned this. My mom just had a mini stroke or TIA. We aren't sure yet. But that makes sense. Thank you.
@@JustJulesAgain If you take MCT oil, the liver makes ketones without you needing to fast. Ketones are the body's primary source of energy and cross the brain barrier without being dependent on insulin, because everyone is more or less insulin resistant and is glucose-driven because we eat carbohydrates, the brain usually does not go to full effect when we get older, maybe only at 70% and then get the 30% extra through ketones. Too much MCT makes you loose in the stomach, so just take a little at first. Good luck! Feedback
29 months and I have improvement every day. Some days very little and some days much more. Some days are very tough to stay motivated other days it’s easy to workout.
Great video series. I watched all of them this morning. My wife is in rehab currently falling a stroke series of strokes. We had just returned from a Viking cruise number six to Alaska. She cannot walk to our bathroom with our help, following the stroke. We called 911 ended up in emergency room ;then the hospital for 9 days and now in Rehab for 100 days. We are older. She is 87. I’m 85. She had four stents several years ago. I had five bypasses in 2005. We’ve been on the blood thinners, statins, Blood pressure pills;😮 you name it. We have been taking one from New Zealand [AG1]for over a year which is helped our appetite and, possibly other health issues. On the Viking cruises we ate a lot of seafood as opposed to the other process foods and meats! T😮he service was fantastic and it was great experience on all six cruises. That she can continue to improve over time. That’s important for many recoveries, thank you again. I’ve watched and downloaded all of your videos except the last one on Bed exercises. Lester.
Thank you so much i understand you better my doctor told me its what it is for now i felt so bad when he told me this i was discourage and sad but i like how you explain its take time 4years i see improveme now i still have this drop toe i can cook bathe myself dress myself thank you for your encouragement i am so grateful not to late God bless you
Although many do not have a loving❤, supportive, patient, and encouraging spouse, mine has been a major reason for why I keep moving forward. Wanting to play a full round of golf again also helps 😊
@lizgolden97 Thank you SO much for your support of Post Stroke ❤️ The book is only accessible from our Paypal fundraiser, but if you email me at elyse@post-stroke.org, I'll make sure you get a copy!
Amazing interview, I really appreciated both of your perspectives on habits and goals. I think establishing habits is how I've been able to push my recovery so far and I don't plan on stopping!
After my stroke in Oct 2021 I moved to Florida where I tried to go back to Pt and Ot,but my doctor tried to tell me that it was to late for me to recover from my stroke. I had a Basil ganglia stroke. I knew it was not so, but because I'm on so far out I believe doctors believe there is just 12 months for recovery.
Thank you very much Elyse for this amazing video and the interview with Stephanie: I have really enjoyed listening to her while replying to your questions: I hope she can return again and share even more in regard to her experience as a PT and also as a Stroke survivor. Congratulations to both of you! Ps Sent a donation to Post Stroke
That's exactly what I was told the day I was released from the rehab center. Doesn't really make for a great outlook for your recovery. Could be phrased differently like your best time to regain use of -------- will be in the first 6 months after your stroke. But you can still gain after that initial 6 months. Might be a better phrase and give the stroke patient a better outlook or more hope with that being said.
Sounds like you need some electrolytes, vit Dk2, and B vitamins. Mct oil seems to help some as well. Just a suggestion. I remember feeling like that, I wasn't eating enough, nor drinking enough water, no electrolytes, and not enough clean food. Tons of coffee tho. Terrible. It can come back, but like anything worth having it takes some doing. And sometimes saying no, and resting. Hugs.
I was a healthy, active person with no problems such as hypertension when I had a stroke as I slept. Nine months later, I still have balance issues, but very few other problems. I'm afraid of dying early, and that bothers me more than my other deficits.
My husband has TIA a lot. Nothing seems to be helping we have been to Dr's done all kinds of test. Start new medication, has brought on early on set dementia and alzimer. Don't know what to do so afraid to just find him dead one day. And he will only do so much of what the Dr's say. I'm so lost.
I’ve enjoyed your videos after a rental costume after having a stroke in January. I ran across your videos when I did not have home healthcare until five weeks of my discharge. I did not know there is a stroke recovery month. I would like to donate to help you get around your world. However I don’t have PayPal account. Is there another way we can help you buy a donation in another form.
@deejae8295 Thank you so much for your kind words! You don't have to have a Paypal account to donate. You can just use a debit/credit card through the donation form. Thank you so much for wanting to support Post Stroke! We appreciate you ❤️
As a survivor who spends time in online stroke survivor spaces, it frustrates me when people say "that doesn't work for me" when they only tried it a few times.
