I love her journalism so much. It’s so refreshing and she’s very open-minded. She seems to be fuelled by finding truth and solutions to pressing issues that aren’t being addressed much, which is what journalism should be. So much respect for you Iman!
It's nice to see someone with actual passion for helping men, il admit im a man who is lost , nothing for me out there, specially as a soldier, there's is things from the army for example i joined in 96 an im half cast and i was beat the shit out of every day, sent me to counciling because the higher ups could see i was having a bad time but they didn't know what was going on or pretended it didn't exist, half hour with a psycoligist type he said everything was confidential and next thing i know my section sgt had everything i said in front of him, 5/6 years of shit like this , beating cos my parents were rich, beatings cos i was half cast, then beatings for impressing in certain aspects of the job....couldnt tell anyone , i never fought back because i wanted to be a soldier an i wasnt a snitch ,didnt tell anyone apart from my best mate in rl, his take on things were this...he gave me an ecstasy pill an told me to talk to me the next day...it opened my eyes it popped that bubble i was in and in stead of taking shit i fought back and almost killed the main guy who was responsible, it was 5 years of pressure from him, I didn't sleep and anyone who came at me i beat them up...but that only works so long because the problem i had was they had friends in high places so I became the problem , its been 20 years and i wake up with the guy on top of me punching the crap out o me, the fear of dread never goes away, I should have killed him, the stuff he did
the witnesses would have made sure , I prob couldnt stay in the army but he was the only fight iv ran from, he's a regimental sgt major now.
I feel iv let countless people have had the same thing from him that let iv let them down😔

Bipolarbear 4873 I can in some small way relate to the feelings you shared. I’ve been through a fair bit myself. I have complex PTSD (not military related).
I don’t have any solutions, but I wanted to show my support and my respect for you.
As men, we are not always very good at that, and to be honest, we don’t really know how to do this kind of thing. It all tends to feel a bit awkward.
But you had the balls to talk and be open.
I couldn’t just walk away and say nothing. Otherwise you would never have known, that anyone actually gave a shit about what you have experienced.

I’m glad she’s talking about the male experience. In the age of feminism, which I’m absolutely on board with, we will never have equality if we ignore the experience of the other half of the population and see what drives men to act this way. We also have to approach this experience with an open mind and compassion and only by bringing men with us do we ever have a shot at equality.
As a man I could not agree more.
Men are often painted with the same brush. I'm a father to four beautiful girls and pride myself to be the best man I can be and have made it my personal mission to be different from others.
The problem is, men seem to ignore themselves and eachother. If says alot that it took a woman to jump-start this project.
Im intrigued to know what your on board with regarding feminism? Also we have equality, men and women are treating each other ok, not great, not terribly 🤷♂️
The big problems that we face in this age is everyone's definition of feminism. I feel some radical people have given true feminism a certain level of toxicity which is putting a lot of people off from engaging in any conversation in regards to feminism.
I'm all up for feminism but when it's rationally discussed and when the aim is to have an equality of opportunity. We should not distort things in such a way to tip the favours into a single direction and puts one side above the other.
Actually this isn't a feminist thing but it appears in all different types of causes. The way we discuss different issues has become so toxic that it is preventing actual proper rational discussion from taking place.
I agree but I also believe that you can focus on women's issues or men’s issues individually. Doesn't make you any less of a feminist
Thanks Russell for having this amazing journo on. As a mother of 5 boys I’m always interested in expanding my knowledge on masculinity from others - my boys are shy in coming forward - so it’s up to me to start the conversation and I hope this builds their confidence in speaking out.
camp griffo they’re not shy coming forward. They’d be more likely to open up to a man they trust and value and respect, get someone who they look up to and they’d spill faster than waterfalls.

I'm sorry, but I feel like if someone wants to emotionally manipulate someone, they don't choose someone who cries, but rather just the person they want to manipulate. Also, there is probably no difference in how easy it is to manipulate someone, depending on if they are fine with crying or not. The people who are more desperate for an intimate relationship are.

I think the trouble is people are stupid.
"Toxic masculinity" isn't the same as masculinity and isn't saying all masculinity is toxic, only the bottom feeders like Peers Morgan believe that.
"Toxic masculinity" refers to the parts of masculinity that are bad, for instance "boys don't cry" etc
Sadly those bottom feeders have managed to make many believe it's directed at all masculinity, which is isn't.

If russell howard had a podcast I believe it could be as successful as joe rogans it would be a similar format except I think russell howard is a bit more approachable in interviews.

I wish more people thought like her. I'm absolutely exhausted with the way we're all constantly shouting at each other.
The problem isn't right or left, it's extreme views and jumping to conclusions without hearing what others have to say that's the problem, especially when most mainstream journalists have a fixed agenda they try to push rather than listen to understand. It's refreshing to be able to talk to people I disagree with so that we can understand each other and see if there's a problem underneath the assumptions because things are rarely simple. That's why people roll their eyes when people blame masculinity for people's greed and sadistic behaviour. Masculinity is essential and is irrelevant to bullying. I think the MeToo movement was a great idea but some women destroy innocent people's lives for money through court and it escalates into some radical feminism nonsense and puts people off having tough conversations. In summary, we need to stop blaming correlations and groups for individuals' behaviour.
So...left and right is the problem. That's exactly what makes people jump to conclusions. People blindly following their "team" like it's fucking football, not wanting to hear anthing else and snorting up the bullshit jounos produces about "the other team" like they're cocain addicts. Instead of giving people one of two boxes to jump in and blindly defend with their life, lets give them open questions and a good education where we teach them to form their own thoughts about everything every time.

A good thing I once read about feminism - can't remember the source and I must paraphrase - is that we must free half of humanity, that is, women, so we can free the other half.

Love her series and her way of approaching topics like me too and modern masculinity. I wish more people could see that understanding isn't only sought through your own experiences. Iman seems to also be learning about being a woman in todays society through talking with men. I'm glad she got to be on this show to spread her balanced approach, let's hope it is adopted.

I have wondered about modern masculinity and part of my therapy sessions has revolved around my perception of myself in that context, but I'm glad that someone is taking a better look at it.

Omg she's just like me ❤ I feel the same. Us women are so focused on ourselves and our body's and the way men should treat us that most of us don't even care about what the guy thinks or how he feels or what he wants to say. Everyone is so quick to judge each other and I just want to have a deep conversation/ debate with someone and not be judged in the way either of us view things. I'm not sure if any of that made sense but it was like a weight off my chest 😅
What a "guy" feels is irrelevant and usually detrimental to his interests once considered. What he wants to say, too, is irrelevant. The only thing that matters to him is his willingness and ability to work until, and beyond, mortal exhaustion.
On fulfilment and the pursuit of happiness, Women need something to live for whereas Men crave something to die for.

Both men and women experience issues which need addressing. Some will have similarities, some will be unique. The trend I'm seeing, particularly with social media, is that both parties use said issues as an excuse to attack the other. Which solves nothing. It's good to see people like Iman Amrani opening up the conversation and I hope that will lead to more constructive conversations and get both sides working together. Good on her.
Oh this is such an important topic. Men have been greatly misunderstood by women for ages. If women don’t know better they tend to gauge a man’s reactions by holding them against what a woman would do or say. This creates massive misunderstandings and a lot of hurt from both sides.
The most important books you can read to better understand the other gender is anything by John Gray (Mars & Venus) and the e-book The Queen’s Code by Alison Armstrong.
Or any youtube interview with Alison as well.
These have helped me understand and appreciate my amazing men so much better, as well as appreciate myself and communicate my own needs that are going to be different than theirs are.
This stuff needs to be taught in schools it would revolutionize our societies.
Studio Céleste John Gray’s (Mars and Venus), is pretty much the only self help book that I recommend.
I understand men and women far better, for having read it.
The moment I realised that he was point on, was when he was first talking about men and the thoughts that we have inside us. It felt like he was inside my head.

Hit the nail on the head. Dave Chappelle made a point about this many years ago in his stand-up gig - "Women got too much advice about men from other women. And they don't know what the fuck they're talking about."

Thank you. As a woman I have not joined the me too movement as I couldn’t say I had anything bad enough happen to me to say that I could really understand. I also want to understand that half of the human population. We are one tribe. We need to understand and work together.
I don't understand what you mean? Can you not empathise or feel sympathy for someone who has been raped? For instance if I was to tell you that at 16, a 24 year old man tried to sexually abuse me... Would you just say 'cant relate?'. Or could you understand that some men feel they have more rights to another person than they actually do? Genuinely curious here. (completely agree with the rest of your comment, we have to understand that we have differences and utilise them for the advantage of all of us together.)

She seems really cool and I was so surprised with the empowerment to the men thing too. I mean she is totally right. It's probably just a means of power dynamic that has made it difficult in the past to have men empowered over their bodies and in contact with partners. But as we all hope those times have gone or at least are changing. So it is definitely time to empower men as well. That's what I learned from this. Thanks Iman and Russell 👍🏻
The notion of bodily autonomy gets kicked out when overwhelmingly poor boys are regularly encouraged - or forced - to die on battlefields or in workplaces in order for the more valuable and prized to enjoy what life has to offer.
On fulfilment and the pursuit of happiness, Women need something to live for whereas Men crave something to die for.

We need more people like her and maybe it is even more important today that she is a woman trying to take men seriously. Another thing I think we need to place more efforts towards is to fill the space that the ones that radicalise our society have right now, because they are clearly dangerous and don't want the best for "their" people.

The Original meaning of it is. But what it's been turned into isn't. You have to be extreamly explicit in what you mean by it, as yes it means you want *equality* but it's also been turned into a word for a group of people that means "we hate men for no reason whatsoever" and "we are better than them". I think men share too little about feelings and insecurities, but women share too much. Waaaaaay too much. Alright maybe it’s just me but I’m not really concerned about whether a woman overshares I mean it’s their choice and I think it’s great that they’re able to freely express their emotions without the stigma of being sensitive, I myself am just learning how to truly express my feelings and point of views without caring about what other people think. @@AjBanjo We're not saying that no one is *allowed* to express their feelings as much as they want, we're saying that the oversharing of everything *can* become a destructive feedback loop. Like something minor happens to you, you go on twitter to complain, you get likes and reaffirmation, and so what was a small issue can takes on a bigger space in your mind because it teaches you that when you complain you get noticed. So then we get a culture of complaining simply to be acknowledged. Which is what we are seeing now.

Again, you are misunderstanding if you think I'm saying you *can't* express as much as you want, because I think you can, it's not for me to tell someone when to cry or how. What I am saying is that we as a *whole* need to encourage more self introspection of issues and emotions, because at the moment, right now, there is an overabundance of emotional outcry over the slightest issues online, and it's breeding an unhealthy culture of petty outbursts. Might surprise you but in my experience "men" is not really a homogeneous group. Very much not unlike "women".
And like you cannot say there are problems facing "women" because of that, much the same is true for "men"..
I happen to be male, but I don't think I am part of "men". Sometimes I'd like to be, sometimes I don't.
I have the same problem with age, weight and nationality, so maybe it's just me.
But when someone feels the need to speak out on my behalf, I get a bit itchy.

Woman from a country where it's not done here. I prefer the practice to be forbidden on children. We can't yell "stop children gender mutilation" and then look the other way cause it's not a 3rd world country. Let it be a choice at least if it's something cosmetic. Personally, I prefer uncircumcised. It's as @Absolutely Ningen says, women in cultures where it's normal to do feel uncircumcised to be odd. While it's the opposite where it's not common practise. In general, that is. I didn't even know it was a thing until I learnt more about America.
I prefer uncircumcised, no need for his nob to be always hanging out lol... Plus it sensitive and should be protected, that's why the foreskin is there in the 1st place..
It shouldn't be forced, but sometimes it could be necessary. I had an uti at a young age and supposedly I needed to get circumcised (or something like that I can't remember).

Real Feminism favours women as well as men.
Though by it's own definition, it doesn't.
I'm not trying to pick on anyone identifying as a feminist here,
but the common definition of feminism talks about achieving equality of the sexes through the advancement of the rights of women.
And it has often, with varying degrees of validity, been framed as a struggle against men.
There are some feminist thinkers that do see that equality requires advocacy for both sides, but they aren't featured much in the public conversation.
At least I haven't heard much, if anything of them.

This has always confused me about heterosexuals and main stream society (for lack of a better term). I talk to all my friends and even family about sex and or porn freely if the topic happens to come up and in a very straight forward manner its not something we feel the need to be embarrassed to talk about as its a very natural part of human life. Besides we are all adults aren't we? As for masculinity oh boy did I have a personal fight with that for many many years, all I will say about that is Generations of men with way to much influence in society have skewed what the concept of what true society should be and its disheartening ...

The problem is the media and journalists. Us men do feel like we are being pushed away from the convo, but pretty much no average guy actually talks to women about it. Celebs, journalists and left wing politicians are pushing the rhetoric, not normal everyday women. The result of this is trump and bojo, because these people happen to align with the economically left parties. Is it 4 general elections that the tories have won now? You cant win elections with one gender, and in the end its only the poor being hurt 🤷♂️
Men can get involved noone is pushing men away then women in society who pick and choose and use and abuse, which 80% of the time leads to distress in men for long term risks we can feel upset confused or like we need to assert masculinity every waking morning of our life that's the issue. WE CAN NOT TRUST A WOMEN. Look at the statistics its more LIKILY you will be divorced and your assets will be takkken by a selfish women or she will cheat inevitably. Then so far as the man is concerned he is thrown out into the world with no hope, and a women with blanket and a warm house to sleep in. When society government and thr courts have literally been pussy whiped the last 70 or so years by women it's hardly surprising why men have toxic views on masculinity entrenched in them by TOXIC WOMEN. I think she NEEDS to go out and grill women's behaviour and get to the root of why women are soo shallow self centred and generally just mean.
Well there has been a trend in recent years of certain men being told they're not allowed to have an opinion as they're a 'white heterosexual male' (for example). Also with phrases such as 'mansplaining' or 'toxic masculinity' thrown around it doesn't feel like it's a safe enviroment for certain men to have an opinion.
I'm not saying minority groups aren't deserving of a voice btw, I'm just saying it's more than likely that 'reasonable' men are probably opting out of the conversation as it seems the smart thing to do. Unfortunately this doesn't help anyone of course, with people just keeping quiet and if anything retreating further which is all well and good until an election comes round and they all get to vote.
I actually think the media is to blame more than anything, constantly stirring things up in the name of ratings and in general most people are usually fairly reasonable. Having said that, I guess the best way to find out if you're pushing men away from the conversation is to ask them. Seems like a good start point.
