      He never left South Texas...he went to Nashville to record his music, but always came back home. He owns a ranch down here, is very down to earth and is a true cowboy. He is the King of country music, with more than 60 #1 songs, yet never allowed his fame to change him. He is still married to his high school sweetheart and lost his daughter in a tragic accident when she was 13. He is the epitome of a humble man! He comes to South Texas all the time, and we all love him

    A Troubadour is a medieval term for someone who makes their living by traveling around and singing songs or reciting poetry.
    And yes, George Strait is a real deal rodeo man. Two of his best known songs, Amarillo by Morning and I Can Still Make Cheyenne, have to do with the struggles and sacrifices made for that 8 second high. One of my personal favorites of his is Seashores of Old Mexico, which is basically about him getting in trouble with the law and skipping over the border to avoid jail time. It's a chill song though and good for a relaxing summer playlist.
    (My sister named her dog after this song because it was like the top song at the time. She was terrible at naming animals😭 Mercifully we nicknamed him Truby.)

    "Run" is my favorite of his. You should watch Jamie Fox's tribute to him it was great.
    George Straight is one of those rare artists...where he can just stand on a stage and sing and it is amazing.

      "Five Dollar Fine" is one of his newer songs and, although good, doesn't do Ledoux any justice. The older stuff from the 70s and early 80s is pure gold. Little Joe the Wrangler (an actual cowboy poem), Oklahoma Joe, The Blizzard... Great story telling

    While stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii as a part of the 25th Infantry Division, Strait’s job was performing with an Army-sponsored band, "Rambling Country", which also played off-base under the name "Santee".

    There is a reason that he is referred to as King George! I literally can’t think of his songs that aren’t favorites on my playlists. Some songs that you may want to checkout by him are Heartland, I Cross My Heart, Love without End Amen, God and Country Music, and Old Violin.
    George Strait has a ranch in South Texas where he hosts the George Strait Team Roping Classic and is an avid team roping himself.

    I saw King George in 1999 in Tampa Bay at the George Strait music festival....He recorded the video for "Write this Down" during the concert. One of the best days of my life

    I'm from South Texas and grew up listening to him. There's nobody like him and there never will be. George is the only artist I will go to any lengths to see in concert. I've been to many of his concerts and paid some hefty ticket prices but it's always worth it! Amarillo by Morning is the next song you need to listen to. The fiddle gives me goosebumps every single time.

    He grew up roping, and he has his own Rodeo Classic in Kingsville, TX... I grew up listenin' to this man, and I will listen to him until the day I die.

    "King" George... George is a true cowboy and has kept his ranch going throughout his career. George is mainly a calf roper but he is truely an all around cowboy. He sponsers a lot of roping events and rodeo events.

    That’s his daughter at 3:43, playing the piano with him. She died in a car wreck not long after that. He’s been married to the same woman forever, even as thousands of women threw themselves at him thru the years. There’s a reason he’s known as King George, and he’s influenced everyone from Garth to Jamie Foxx. Incredible talent, a great rabbit hole to dive into.

    George's tour bus broke down in Dickinson TX back in 1998. He walks into the bar and did a few songs while he waited for his bus to be repaired. He is the king of Texas. Texas will close down the day we lose him 😔

    Over 33 years recording career he has 60 #1 hits and the thing I like the most about him is he didn’t let the fame go to his head. He’s exactly the same now as he was when he first started except a little older! PS he still married to the same woman to.

    I’m from San Antonio Texas which is like 25 minutes from poteet where George strait is from and him being the king is all we’ve ever known. He sings songs about all the things we have gone through working, loving, and drinking lol and is on 75% of the people I know too list of who they want to meet.
    My favorite song is “still make Cheyenne “

    One of the reasons that George is considered the KING of Country Music is because he has 60 #1 hits....that's not a typo....60 #1 hits - that's more than any other artist EVER, of ANY music genre...MORE than Elvis, more than the Beatles...This dude is "IT" LEGIT!

    You should review “Everything I See” by King George. It’s largely unknown, but one of my favorite of his songs. Also, another great country voice is Chris Ledoux. Check him out.

    He is STILL my man. My God. I love him so much. He made me bawl when he gave me a rose at a concert and I still have it framed on my wall. It was my 1st concert. He's timeless. No one can replace him.

    In this video you see George is at the piano with his daughter….she was 13 and died in a car accident…it’s pretty special to have him let us into his past. He’s the best God bless you.
