@@KrabbyPatty99Archive wait, then what is chiptune? I thought midi was just an old file type for sounds. (Or beeps that are altered slightly, to be more accurate) lol. Google says MIDI came out 1983.. Sorry if this is dumb or wrong, if you tell me what to google I can find the answer! I thought I knew this stuff.
@ZeranZeran Midi is a file that contains information like where notes should be, where their played, what notes are played, tempo, pitch bends, etc. Basically, in mario bros 2, that file tells the game what notes to play and when to play them. Chiptune is a style of music, mostly compressed, like the mario bros theme.
I remember, back in the day, we were used to a fat italian guy eating mushrooms that made him bigger, he was going through pipes and spitting balls of fire on mutant mushroom and turtles. Then this game came out and we thought it was *weird*.
Another easter egg I only recently found: In SMB3 the first notes in the song that plays when you use a flute to warp to another level are the same notes that you hear at the beginning of Ocarina of Time on the main title screen.
I humbly ask you to grant me permission to add your quote to the sacred text I've been writing ever since the Great Epiphany that resulted from being touched by the Grace of Nintendo in the 80-90s. It's called the Binary Codex, and it's based on venerating the Holy Triad of Composers (Koji Kondo, Nobuo Uematsu and Yoko Shimomura). May the Games be with you.
Still amazing how in the west we knew no different to this being a remake of doki doki and in the east they got the actual super mario 2. If it weren't for the Internet wouldn't have known any better, nostalgia galore and great memories
Thanks a lot, this game was one of my favorites, it was one of the first games I've ever played with a friend, soon she will get married, it's an evidence how times passes but excellent games like Super Mario Bros never got old, they are more appreciated everyday!
By far the best ending music out of many of the great songs of the mario world, I am glad I am able to play all of the games. I can't wait to see whats in store for the future as I reclaim my memories
omg you are so awsome for having this out there, i was taking this, "can you name this classic game test" and i heard so many old games that jus take me back, thank you!
last night i remade this entire soundtrack excluding the Title Screen on FL Studio by ear and i think i did pretty good...^^ mario ftw and thank you for uploading this
thank you for posting this...i was a weird little kid..i use to always beat the end before i went to bed just so i could listen to that song at the end..haha
I donno where I heard it but its stuck in my head, there was song right after the credits song. It was very catchy but I can't find it anywhere anymore.
I used to play through world 3 to get to world 4 and kill all but one of my marios using potions to get as many coins as possible then gamble them for lives. Sometimes I would have 20's to 30's of lives after that. Legit beaten this game many times; no game genie.
back when games didn't need orchestras or blood and guts to be good. when a soundtrack of less than 10 minutes combined created more memorable music than soundtracks taking up multiple cd's.
I with no cheats beat this game late 80s or early 90s! Very easy to stack up lots of lives. I have not played a console game since I got my first PC in 1996...
the second track "character select" always amused me when i was a kid and now that hearing for the first time in years its even funnier and more amusing lol
I have not played this game in decades, yet for some reason this music has been stuck in my head for Weeks. I thought maybe listening to it would fix it- sometimes it does, sometimes not though. At least it's decent music! I'm probably going to boot it up again soon emulator style :D What's interesting about Mario 2 is that it's not really Mario 2. The real Mario 2 was not released in the US because it was 'too hard' and it looked just like the first Mario Brothers, same sprites/enemies/level style/etc. The real Mario 2 is called 'The Lost Levels' now. Instead they reskinned another Game called 'Doki Doki Panic' (pretty sure that's the name anyway) and replaced the controllable Characters with Mario Characters. That's why it has different enemies, different Music, different bosses and different theming overall. It's a really interesting story that there's lots of videos about here on YT if you're interested.
I could hear some of the character select at 0:28, and overworld at 1:40, and I could not hear inverted world until 4:16, but everything else seems right. It's more like this. title screen-0:00 character select-0:28 overworld-1:40 underworld-3:14 starman-3:57 inverted world-4:16 boss-4:58 wart-5:28 credits-6:05 or at least that's what it is in my opinion.
SupraDarky's "Best VGM" playlist here on youtube. It's got over 1200 songs though, so be careful not losing your (real) life on your quest listening through it lol
Sigh, 6:05. I used to be able to beat this game on a regular basis. I loved the ending music and seeing Mario snoozing. One of those games where you'd actually watch the credits and listen to the music. I hate to say it, but they really don't make 'em like this any more.
You should add the numbers to the sound track like where they begin so we can click on the ones we want to listen to at the time, but of course who wouldn't want to listen to the whole thing OVER and OVER and OVER again?

Omg someone was thoughtful enough to do this. thank you so much
overworld is the best one

Undeniable evidence that Koji Kondo is a genius.
1:40
Amen. He used midi better than most people compose with instruments.
So cool

What I'm feeling is beyond nostalgia
Yestalgia?
retrogaming 😜 I see what you did there, someone's punny!
I just heard a Mario 2 song on some random instagram video. I am here now and I feel like I am high on drugs
NES is most of my 80s music memories. I'm 36.

I think this is one of the most under-rated and under appreciated games ever created.
I loved when you pressed pause and the music was just the drums and bass! Freakin awesome, no other game does that.
:)
1:44 I can't not ever hear the sound effect of Mario falling down as that music starts.
I swear, the Overworld theme would make such a good tap-dancing track. I can't be the only one who can imagine it, right?
yes a lot of ragtime influence in the mario soundtracks. a lot of 80s and 90s video game music is very heavily influenced by jazz overall
They just did it.
I remember, back in the day, we were used to a fat italian guy eating mushrooms that made him bigger, he was going through pipes and spitting balls of fire on mutant mushroom and turtles. Then this game came out and we thought it was *weird*.
I already have the paperwork in place to play this at my funeral.
Amazing comment. You win the Internet for today
lolololol
Hands down best music out of all the marios.
By far my favorite Mario soundtrack
I'm glad you enjoyed listening to it.
ok
It was great
I played this game before
I like this song
Easter Egg 0:00 - 0:26, Super Mario Bros 1 water Theme remix :D
Oh snap
Slipmaskin I love how this is the general reaction when someone realizes that this is true. :D
Another easter egg I only recently found: In SMB3 the first notes in the song that plays when you use a flute to warp to another level are the same notes that you hear at the beginning of Ocarina of Time on the main title screen.
I knew that for years
ha ha
8 bit helps structure my mind, particularly the left side of my brain.

5:28 just brought me the biggest chill ever...
and also brought back my everlasting fear of Wart...i hope to wake up soon!
5:28
i almost cried when the music ended.
Just noticed that there are no underwater levels on this game. X)
Yea. That is weird! XD
XD
Probably woulda made the game more annoying if they added water levels. XDD
Not really...I hated the ending boss.. XD
Hardest Mario Game!
And SML!
The ending music is so great!

Very nice and underrated OST. I especially love the crystal-clear (although low quality) samples used in this soundtrack.
By far the best ending music out of many of the great songs of the mario world, I am glad I am able to play all of the games. I can't wait to see whats in store for the future as I reclaim my memories
Ahhhh Brings me back. 10 times trying to make the game work and when it worked, the music greeted as if I accomplished the first task of the game. :)
omg you are so awsome for having this out there, i was taking this, "can you name this classic game test" and i heard so many old games that jus take me back, thank you!
omg, i used to love this game soooo much, I remember i used to pick princess peach everytime I play this game!!! Ahh memories :)
Better quality than some of the other uploaded SMB2 OST's.
STILL THE KING BAYBEEE!!!

GAME OF THE YEAR 2022!
HEARING THIS AGAIN BRINGING BACK MAD MEMORIES (PRE-INTERNET DAYS) WHEN YOU HAD TO HAVE HUMAN CONTACT WITH PEOPLE
I remember that trick ^^ you place a door down near your 5th cherry and get the star, go inside the door and leave right before the song ends :D
Best soundtrack

My favorite super Mario Bros 2 Music Overworld And Ending Music, Mario Overworld Theme And Bosses Battle Birdo, mouser, And Red Snakes And Robot Birdo
Title screen is essentially a variation of the original game's Underwater Theme, it sounds like. Pretty cool.
back when games didn't need orchestras or blood and guts to be good. when a soundtrack of less than 10 minutes combined created more memorable music than soundtracks taking up multiple cd's.

GameTrip X not at all. The opposite.

Love how trad jazz oriented this soundtrack is
It's very 1930's, part of why it's gets stuck in the head.
Thanks So Much For This Bud :)
1 person did not have a childhood. I love this music so much! x3
The little song at 1:41 always makes my day happier.

ITS OKAY N****! I GOT THAT SUPERMARIO BROS 2 CARD!!!!
This some real shit right here fellas.
So Classic, so Cool. thanks for the upload
Still the BEST Mario Game. Change my mind.
OMG, I just noticed that most of the music in this game has some form of jazz to it. I can imagine a jazz band playing most of them.
You should go listening some "Estradasphere" they did a eargasmic cover of super Mario 2
back in the days when oldskool games really ment something.
God the Super Nintendo Entertainment System Era was gold 8D.
MARIO FOREVER!!!!!!! 8D
Yeah, I also play NES in this time. It's the classic one, and it's quite fun. I love this songs, too.^^
SupraDarky's "Best VGM" playlist here on youtube. It's got over 1200 songs though, so be careful not losing your (real) life on your quest listening through it lol
It sure does ... Remember when I was like 4 years old. I played this for like 5 -10 hours a day xD I never wanted to go out... :)
Glad you enjoyed it.
@weezmurda the second song is called Character Select.
Sigh, 6:05. I used to be able to beat this game on a regular basis. I loved the ending music and seeing Mario snoozing. One of those games where you'd actually watch the credits and listen to the music. I hate to say it, but they really don't make 'em like this any more.

At 3:49 it totally sounds like Can - Vitamin C to me. anyone else? That's always caught me when playing it as a kid.
love the white noise drum fills 1:27.
