This sewing has no speed control. I just had to practice how to control it.

Any size between db16 to db25. depending how thick the leather is. but most times I use db18 for soft and light leathers then db23 for heavy sewing

I'm not sure if you caught it but you missed one of the guides when threading. The one next to the tension disks.

Yeah I almost never thread it, not sure why.
But if your machine has it, you could thread it
