The Shed: The Purpose of Compression

In this episode of The Shed, Aguilar Product Specialist Pete Iannitto takes us through the basics of Compression for bass with the TLC Compressor pedal. Compression can be tricky… it’s not easy to hear and often not easy to dial in. Through anecdote and demonstration, Pete goes through each control of the TLC Compressor to show its purpose and function. As a metal guitarist i tried compressors a few times over the years and it never “did anything” then a few years ago i started playing fender guitars, fender amps. And playing clean, then i tried compression again and holy cow! Turns out distortion itself compresses the signal so much, so i had no idea i had been compressing this whole time and thats why i never noticed much difference using one. I tell people my compressor helps me play clean tones with the sustain id expect using distortion. Its been a life changer. My favorite comp on the market right now is hands down the wampler Ego

Greatly explained. Nice playing. Tlc won my shootout vs ebs multicomp and others. Not fancy modes but transparent compression

Thanks Pete. Excellent demo.
I have an active/passive bass. In passive mode, the D & G strings are markedly quieter than the E. I am attempting to use the TLC to attain more volume parity but I cannot figure out how.
What general settings would you suggest to help with this?
