I so agree Nichole. Me and my best friend often discuss how we hated this twist. I'll never understand what the writers were thinking. But then again the writing was so uneven and downright dreadful at times during this era.
@@hshawn00 I agree about the writing. They did sometimes came up with silly plotlines that were awful like Harley bedding her niece's boyfriend, Alan and Beth being sexual when he previously thought of her as a daughter and pairing Josh with Cassie.
I began watching GL during the Ben, Eve ( nasil voice drove me nuts :). I couldn't believe they broke them up for an Amanda/ Ben connection( didn't see that coming). The new Amanda and new Roger was difficult to adjust although both excellant actors. It got pretty strange. I think Id taken a break once Amanda became Allans sister. But faithful viewer shortly thereafter right to the end.
The storyline with Amanda, Jennifer, and Lucille was one of the best ever!!! Great Actresses!!! Can not believe Kathleen Cullen never appeared on another soap, anyone know what happened to her?
Kathleen Cullen was such a gem as Amanda. A fragile, amiable young woman which grew up. I never understood why GL didn't renewed her contract. The 90s Amanda was so out of character and making her Brandons daughter was just ridiculous and a betrayal of longterm viewers. Can anybody imagine Kathleen Cullen's Amanda having an escort service? What a nonsense... Toby Poser was a good actress too, but instead of making her Amanda Spaulding, they should have created a new character for her - but as Amanda, she was not authentic.
Hard to believe that the Actress who played Jane Marie Stafford/Jennifer Richards was Gay in Real Life. The Young Lady named "Misty" was Jennifer Gareis who would later play Grace on The Young & The Restless then Donna on The Bold & The Beautiful.
Kathleen Cullen is always Amanda Alan was her Dad that was the problem with Guiding Light so many beloved veterans replaced see what happen with the show in 2009

I think when Kathleen Cullen left the show in 1983 it was said that Amanda was going to live with Jennifer, wherever Jennifer had moved to, and they would raise Matthew together. Cullen was brought back for some Christmas episodes in the late 80s, and that time Amanda was written as someone who had more of a stake in Spaulding Enterprises (she was still Alan's daughter at that point). She didn't bring Matthew back to town with her for those episodes, presumably the boy was with Jennifer. When Amanda returned full time in the 90s, played by Toby Poser, the character was changed radically. She was a ruthless and scheming businesswoman, fighting Alan and Alexandra for control of Spaulding. And history was rewritten to say she was now Brandon's daughter, and thus, a half-sister of Alan and Alexandra. She married Roger then she and Roger moved to California. During the Toby Poser stint, nothing was ever said about Jennifer or Matthew.
@@tnate6004 I always suspected it was an "audition" of sorts...to see if the character might fit back into the show again long-term, but then they decided against it. She only came back for a handful of episodes, and those were Cullen's last appearances in the role.
The Trial of Jennifer Richards is out on a boxed DVD set, but it takes place after Lucille's murder, during the court case.
They should have kept her as Alan's kid.
I agree. There were possibilities with Amanda. I hated how everyone dumped on her and she never got back at any of them.
