Preorder the 2023 ChemKnits Chanukah Sampler Today! chemknitscreations.etsy.com/listing/1564836267 I'm happy to report that I've dyed all of the miniskeins for this series and I'm on target for shipping in early November.
I love the color combination! Just seeing the yarn on its own I would call the end a variegated black. It's definitely a lot darker than the other colors, and I think Noibat and Noivern look more dark gray anyway. For things like this in the future, perhaps you could weigh out a small amount of black dye based on an estimate of how much of the yarn you wanted to be black. In this example, 600g yarn * 1/3 of the skeins = 2g black for a 1% DOS. It'd be harder to get pinches of the dye powder when it's in a smaller container like that, but if you really wanted dark black areas and were still worried about using too much black and having it spread to the rest of the yarn, it's not a bad idea to try out.
I am absolutely in love with it. You couldn't have know this but you picked my favourite colours. now I have a dilemma of picking a project to showcase it.
I’m not sure if you’ve talked about this previously, but do you think this technique could be done with fiber reactive dye? I have dyed cotton yarn in an overnight soak (used a purple tie dye, got a gorgeous blue/peach/purple broken outcome). I’m so curious about what that could look like!
When you wash the yarn after dyeing, is the water cold, warm or hot? I have a hank of dyed yarn to wash and not sure what temp I should wash it in. It was dyed with cool aid.
Have you ever done an experiment with distilled water vs. your tap water? You often say your tap water is slightly acidic and I wonder if there is an appreciable difference.
I haven't done this experiment, ultimately only because I don't think it would make me switch. But maybe I should finally do this.... I might need new litmus paper, too since my last batch wasn't giving me results that made sense. The main reason why I mention my water being slightly acidic is because other people might not get the same results as me with just plain tap water and the pH can be one reason why.

I love this method. How fun! What a great combination of colors. Thanks for the fun.
Stunning!! Interesting how little green came through on the yarn mop but it looks great with the other colours.
So cool! And what a fun technique to dye yarn :D
I love the episodes where the results are a surprise. And the colours you picked for this are so amazing together!
Such pretty yarn!! Fun technique!

Toner Black! Having serviced copiers for several years, many years ago, that really takes me back in time!!

I wash in cold/cool water. (In the winters in MA cold tap water can be REALLY cold so I make it a tad warmer in January!)
Kugel dyeing!
I love yarn lasagna
I would not have added more red
