Five years later and I'm still drooling over this rig
I have a 2014 rawhide edition, only headaches are injectors and fan clutch, do not let that steer you away, all trucks have their issues, I love my rig!

Im a big fan of Pete's and Ken's but this model mack has aways been my favorite one this is the type of truck i would get honestly

+al91176 More and more newer trucks are automatics or offer an automatic option. I'm old school...give me a 13 speed or better yet, a super 10.

+Clayton Brown how come you prefer manual over automatic? And what's the pros and cons of both?
I was trained on a manual plus I prefer the control. Part of trucking is being in tune with the vehicle and being a part of the driving process. Additionally, I like the control and decision making ability. I drove an automatic a few times and did appreciate it when in heavy, bumper to bumper traffic. Otherwise, I wasn't impressed...just my opinion.

How much does one cost, in general
It is probably close to the $130K or more price, fairly expensive.
It looks like a DME truck, that is why it has the odd pipe off the back of the cab instead of a exhaust stack. Most of the parts anyway on these trucks from Volvo since they have owned Mack for 20 years.

How much price
this is not a real mack. it has a volvo engine. this is key to what im saying, the newer volvo engines are not as reliable with all the emissions, even with the newer emissions still not as good, even with all the bugs worked out. if ive read correctly, volvo is going to a one box set up like detroit diesel went and that is moronic. the one box set up is too much to deal with, too much time to service and try to meet detroit warranty times. same thing with cummins and volvo/mack. getting back to what i was originally saying, put a e7 or e9 etech in front of a t300 trans and both mack dual reduction rears
Mack is part of Volvo group. Makes sense they might just run a Volvo motor.
Tim Pegram no class 8 truck or really any vehicle made today is true to its roots anymore. nearly all automakers fall under an umbrella amongst other manufacturers. I'd say the closest ur gonna get is paccar but not everyone wants to or can afford to Shell out the money for a Pete or KW, and unless u spec it with an expensive ass Cummins, the paccar engine isn't the greatest either. I've heard cascadias are the best bang for the buck and nearly any shop can service a Detroit, but like everything else, they aren't what they used to be. thank the EPA for mandating EGR valves and DPF filters.
