just recently got back into playing GO and these basics videos totally are refurbishing my game. on my last serious run i got as high as 3k with a style that i can only call the "flailing about on the board and hoping the chaos works in my favor" style. like button mashing, but for GO :)
who knew that playing a game of principles as opposed to a game of endless fist-fights works so well :P
my thanks to you sir for these lessons

3:30: for anyone who doesn't read ladders out using either the stone-by-stone or the Kage method, the white stone is too low for the ladder breaker to work.

So would you say in the opening don't go behind in points and don't leave dangerous aji behind?

Just 'cause I'm curious, I sometimes have the bleep-bloops analyzing Dwyrin's games while I watch them.
In the second game of this video, the AI says black went too easy on his opponent. At 31:10 it's giving white a 87% chance to win. Of course, this assumes very skillful endgame, starting with the wedge at L7 to utilize his dead stones' aji.
It's funny how the human analysis points out all the stylistic/directional errors made in the early parts of the game, while the AI analysis is: "Black crushed white in endgame".

Well, I did let 3 of his groups live...and the creation of those isn't an issue of 'style' its just really bad.

I think you still didn't have to kill. You just should have dealt with the top group a little bit better. As you can see it lived big while reducing corner and also wasn't even completely surrounded. Perhaps the response to P5 peep was the problem. Don't doubt the basics batts. Play big moves and let live.

I was sure shodan was the name of Chinese chess game and I was thinking you tried to include this game in your channel. Silly me ^_^

You might be thinking of Shogi, Japanese chess

Yes, you are right. Please remind me to never comment again too early in the morning. Silly me! ^_^ I've played Chinese chess during College, not Japanese chess, and the guy teaching me how to play always won without moving his king. Dwyrin is very good playing various strategy games, I wouldn't have been surprised to see Shogi games played by him. Sorry for the confusion and please continue explaining Go, I really enjoy the videos.

Bottom left game 2 was not joseki. The atari on the second line at B16 is an overplay, black needs to play at E16 to refute

A 4p showed me this exact variation, so it should be playable, I suppose...
