This is a terrific locomotive and it is great that Intermountain listened to customer complaints and actually improved the features of their locomotive models. It is appreciated when manufacturers listen to consumer criticism and make improvements to their products ; improved features here included additional locomotive weight and more durable handrails, this is a serious model product improvement.

I got one of these last year, with a small cosmetic problem. It had a broken front handrail. I got it cheap at my local necessary evil hobby store. I say that because they seem to sell model trains that all have issues. Anyway, it is a great model. I contacted Intermountain and they replaced the broken parts free of charge. Great company. Did you ever do a review on a Broadway Limited ES44AC? I have one of those as well and it is quite impressive.

These are really great units...and glad to hear Intermountain took care of you. I think Intermountain knocked it out of the park with these and I was looking forward to their Dash 9's. I hope they get back to releasing products again. I never bought an Broadway Limited version. I would have to get a non sound one if I did because I'm not a fan of their Paragon sound.

OMG!! That sucker is SMOOOOTH!! 😎 Intermountain has REALLY stepped up it's game. Looks like they're now going after big game. I'm sure that you're very happy that it's that good!! I still remember ALL of the problems you had with the SD40-2 you got from them, a couple of years ago. That was junk compared to this one!
*Almost* makes me think about going current day!! 😵 Get some black paint and cover those wires! Problem solved.
Now, I can't even *dream* of getting any new loco...... but that shouldn't be forever. 25 OUNCES!!?? That should easily handle 100 cars. Seriously!
Now that they're getting better, I'm really hoping that they're planning at least one or two early 70's EMD, GP28, GP10, GP11, SD10 or SD20 (most of those being rebuilt 1st Gen power), or GE, U-Boat or Dash-7 locos....
I actually contacted Fox Valley a couple of years back. I liked their models. Later I found out that you can have anything you want from them - as long as it's a GP60!! HO or N! 😨
I'm glad this was a good experience for you.
    Carmine 🚂

All that sucker needs is some Magnalock air hose, and now the new MU Cable - in 3 different colors and lengths!! They're really improved over the first version. The magnets are smaller, look better, and work flawlessly! Some nice guy got me a 10 pack. I highly recommend them!

I work shuttle van for CSX, the only things, that I see missing, is the walkway, and step lights, should be a light above the 2nd access step, (all 4 of them) and light above the back of cab step (engineers door) and a light above the center of the cab trucks.. and put a light behind the body that glow 4 or 5 little rectangle at the top right of the brake wheel, for the automatic Loco tiedown. They are LED lights on the real locos. that would make these perfect...

@@DGModelworks Thanks for the welcome back! I've been watching a lot of your videos lately, really good content! I don't really have room for a layout, but have been having fun restoring some of my older stuff to good working order - hopefully building a layout sometime in the (realistically pretty distant) future. I placed an order for an athearn genesis Dash 9 40CW, but am curious to give scaletrains a try - it looks like really top notch stuff, and I love that they released a "how its made" type video.

I've always been a stickler for detail. I've noticed that Intermountain's Gevo has grab irons on either side of the snowplow, Scaletrains' version doesn't. I've heard elsewhere that Scaletrains' version has slightly more under body detail. Now, I wonder which model should I choose, the one with the grab irons or the one with the slightly more under body detail? Decisions, decisions, decisions. Sigh.

The kit has a 1 inch thick base to it, Which I have embedded into the foam board base of the layout. what you are suggesting is doable. but would require disassembly of the building and using brick styrene to "raise" the walls up and not look silly. But good suggestion. Thanks for watching!

Great presentation - do the axle ends rotate?

Thanks! Yes they do, I forgot to mention in the video....I've been busy with work and sort of rushed this video and forgot to mention the rotating bearing caps.

Thanks for this review bro. I want a nice NS unit and this will hopefully be it. I want to make sure it will navigate a 15" radius though. I was looking at one of these at my local train shop and I think the trucks would handle it but the rear coupler has me hesitant. Seems like the front coupler is a little longer and has more of a swing than the rear.

I enjoy my Tier 4 model from Intermountain a bit better than the Scale Trains.com version.

Maybe its not just a packaging change eh Deryk !! Maybe a Chinese factory change too !! With the perceived weight /performance/quality hike could these be now made in the same factory that produce the equally hefty /cool Atlas products ??! Bet with your " previous " trials and tribulations with Intermountain you wouldn't mind if that has happened !! Scale trains watchout !!

That just might be it. Guess I never thought about that. Whatever they did, it certainly was for the better. I agree, Scaletrains has some competition with this locomotive. I'm loving it!

Deryk, thanks for the review and it seems that IMR listened. They seem to want to keep the modeler happy.

Nice review! you make good reviews.
I miss the "GE Chug" though, it's really sad that GE made the tier 4's completely different.

The NS paint scheme looks nice, but the UP version they did sucked. The detail was good over all, but the flag looked like it was done with crayola markers.
