I started diving 60 years ago and that is one of the most beautiful spots I’ve seen. Thank you for the clip.

hi, sorry I never saw this message and never replied.
this video was shot in the end of July (hence the wetsuit).
the water only gets this amazing visibility a handful of times a year, you just need to be ready for it.
the current in the area is extremely strong (if you jump in at the bridge it could take you down to Pirrita (Coon) Island in about 30minutes), and it is impossible to swim against.
the only time you can swim at the bridge is during the slack tide (in between the change of high tide and low tide (or between low tide and hightide, but visability will always be bad then since you are swimming in lake water instead of ocean water).
easiest way to work out when slack tide is going to be is check with the local dive shop (currently called dive newcastle) and they post the times on their facebook page every week.
the other way to work is out is to look up the hightide time for fort denison, and if it is a 1.2m high tide, you add 2 hours and 5 minutues to that time.
for every 0.1 difference you add or subtract 15minutes (1.1m tide add 1:50 for FD, 1.3m tide add 2:20 to FD) - but like I said, easiest is to check witht he dive shop.
      now the bad news.
due the the amount of boat traffic, this area is really not suitable for snorkeling, and if you were I would be staying as close to the southern wall as possible.

Amazing but please be careful my husbands grandfather died there, the current pinned him under the water.
