I never realized how much thought goes into telling a good story in the ring until watching these videos.. it definitely cements the fact that wrestling can truly be an art form..
Such a good video. Great remarks on a serious issue in Wrestling and such a smart approach. I think anyone who loves or lives Professional Wrestling should watch this just because its so beneficial to have this knowledge. Thank you PJ for a great video a great series and an awesome Career that entertained the hell out of me.
These are the types of channels, materials, videos, etc. that should get millions of views! Thanks PJ for sharing and hope this channel explodes and makes you some adsense money!!
Last week's Smackdown had a Main Event of Daniel Bryan vs. Seth Rollins. Daniel Bryan, without question put on a great performance as a true babyface. The crowd was into every moment and I was even fired up watching at home!
Excellent episode. This is proper education. I was wondering if you could possibly educate those to the elements of Shine,Heat,Comeback And Finish? I was educated by my mentor Dylan Night years ago and felt you'd be the person who could enlighten those who aren't aware of the importance. Thank you for your effort and work, sir.
for me, A good heel is someone who can truly make you hate him, I mean really hate. My Favorite Heel JBL knew how to piss people off, he pissed me off as a kid and watching his matches today, I still hate them.
+Brandon Tunnel Wrong I despise most of the babyfaces. A good heel is one who I relate to and root for. A good heel blocks out the morons in the crowd and still wins no matter what. A good heel says and does what he wants and still passes it off like gold to the crowd who idolie him and want to be him despite all the john cena goofballs on the roster trying to be mr. goodie goodie and recruit all the 10 year olds and women in the audience... Who the hell wants to slap hands with those morons? You can feel how disingenuous many of the so called "good guys" were at the time. Watch kurt angle trying to smile and act nice. The guy is a phony. Watch hulk Hogan, one of the biggest scumbags in history, try to act like mr. squeaky clean all American face in the 80's. Phony, contrived, pathetic. If you're going to be a face, you have to be authentic, genuine, you have to look like you are into it and believe in the fans and your gimmick. There are too many faces who uite obviously are full of shit and don't even want to shake the hands of the fans. I know if I was a wrestler I wouldn't slap hands with anybody. They don't deserve it...
Y'know something, I think that's one of the reasons I've never succeeded in life, because I've always been too nice, and considerate towards others. I've always been too much of a pushover with people, being all meek and forgiving whenever they've wronged me, and it's just made them think of me as being even weaker, and cemented my status as a victim with even greater authority. People say I'm lazy and selfish now, but before all my school and college bullying, I used to be able to leap out of bed with enthusiasm each morning when I was a kid. There was none of this lying around with my eyes closed for thirty minutes, and then sitting on the side of my bed! So really, I don't think I'm the one to blame for my laziness. I consider it to be all the unscrupulous chavs of the world who victimised me, and did long-term harm to my psychological wellbeing.
If you want to see great heels check out: Ted Dibiase, Terry Funk, Jake Roberts, Rick Rude, Ric Flair, Harley Race, Ole and Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Bully Ray, Eddie Guerrero, Jim Cornette, Bobby Heenan, Roddy Piper, Kevin Sullivan, etc... There's plenty of footage and these guys were hated, for real. Some were screamers, but most could get a point across with a level voice. They believed that their way was right. The heel is the hero of his own story. It's the audience who doesn't get it. Babyfaces: Ricky Morton, Brad Armstrong, Ricky Steamboat, John Cena, Dusty Rhodes, Mr Wrestling II, Rey Mysterio, and so on. These were guys who kept fighting back, who crowds screamed for, who tried to hit the ring to protect. They took the high road and tried to show their skill; but if it got dirty they would fire back, until they could get that clean advantage. They are the underdogs, who won't give up. The heels are the bullies in life, the people who take the easy way, who back off when someone stares them down. They are the ones who hate life and want revenge for the life they have lived. The babyfaces are the guys who stand up for themselves, who protect the little guy, who will take the hard road because the reward is better.
+Grendelkhan100 Roddy pipper in wwe from '84 to early '86 wasbar none the BEST HEEL ever! I hated his guts the second he turned to mush into a hulk hogan loving pg asskissing goofball babyface! He betrayed me and all the little pipers out there who idolied this man. I never liked piper again. He was a disgrace, turning on his loyal good friend ace cowboy bob orton, adrian adonis, and all his other good heel friends who never turned their backs on him. This guy did a complete 180 and I hated his guts from late 1986 and on. I never like dpiper again. But wow, when he was a heel, especially doing those piper's pits, he was untouchable and he even beat hogan a few times when hogan was the cena primadonna goof of the roster who never took losses...>
I always have enjoyed the heels more than the babyfaces. Today my favorite actual babyface today is John Cena because he's just so good at it. I like Daniel Bryan but his chants now feel so forced now (it sucks really). I agree that many babyfaces now kind of do whatever they want but people cheer for them cause they like them. Or if they were previously heels, now they simply do less heelish type things (Miz, Punk, Ziggler). To me, many babyfaces today fall into this category.
ive thought alot about getting into wrestling shape and doing pro wrestling and being a punk heel. like combat style boots and a mohawk and just a bad dude with bad attitude. this has been really helpful in kinda putting together a Heel character
One of the greatest heel turns in Wrestling was Sgt. Slaughter joining Sheik Adnan Al Kassie. Wrestling fans were more pissed off at him for that, than they EVER were at Hogan for starting the nWo.
I completely agree, as talented as alot of guys I have seen on the indy scene are, there are alot of babyface vs babyface matches which simply end up being a show off contest. One of the indy standouts for me is Noam Dar from Scotland, yes he does strong style, but he is technical as hell, and dishes out alot of Ric Flair style punishment. Call me a skeptic, but I feel that some guys are afraid to be heels, because they might not get as much money selling merch...
I honestly believe the best heel in the world at the moment is Prince Devitt down in NJPW. I watched ONE SHOW and I was completely hating him for all the right reasons, from his entrance to the end of the match to everything.
I must admit I see the pros of the modern era neutral characters like stone cold but as a fan nothing makes you fired up as when good baby face comes back against a great heel , edge of the seat stuff.
I think a reason why there are no great heels anymore (great athletes and personalities, but no great heels) is that guys only have one big, national company to work for and they are more worried about making themselves look like badasses than looking like cheap cowards.
i have to agree with you about wwe here. there's nobody that's a legit threat anymore. look at the biggest baddest dudes in the company, they've all been emasculated on national tv (big show) or just plain wasted. dutch mantel as zeb coulter is a great example of a true heel. he's totally fearless, will hit every raw nerve you have till you want to murder him and dance away at the last second as his 2 bruisers do all the heavy lifting. that's easy to hate and there's big money in being hateable
Rowdy Roddy Piper, Don Moraco, Raven, Ric Flair. Just some suggestions. Personally to me these are some of the greatest heels of all time. There are TONS more. #not_JUSTIN_justa_fan
Your comments are spot on. I loved when Goldust & William Regal worked as heels. Their mannerisms and the way they played with the crowd were brilliant.
the pulse of the future or wrestling ? so why would he go to TNA? surely the comment should be '' Oi vince sign Justin back to WWE '' Hogan and Bischoff should NOT be included anywhere near the words ''Pulse of future of wrestling''
WWE. Hire PJ. You got the rest of the clique taking up space all over your company. Get this guy in there and let him bring this knowledge to some of the kids at FCW at let us enjoy wrestling again at some point.
As a wrestling fan I couldnt disagree more on the "working slow" these veterans always talk about. Wrestling TODAY is too slow. People just standing there "dazed" and walking into a body slam is just corny and unrealistic. The cat is out the bag, MMA is here.
I see you kind of praised the HARD-HITTING, OVERLY STIFF method of putting on a GOOD, REALISTIC MATCH that some of the up-and-coming promotions and wrestlers do these days. I know the most surefire method to make fans believe in a match being genuine is by being overly stiff and rough, but don't you think it'd be bad for the financial wellbeing of a promotion if their wrestlers kept dropping like flies, due to the injuries that would constantly be happening due to the wrestlers always hitting each other for real? I know you all worked very stiff in ECW as well, and the top wrestlers always seemed to keep coming back for more, BUT IT'S NO SECRET THAT WRESTLERS OFTEN FALL VICTIM TO VARIOUS ADDICTIONS, such as reliance on painkillers, due to having to contend with constant pain, DUE TO THE HIGHLY ARDUOUS, PHYSICALLY-TAXING LIFESTYLE OF A WRESTLER. Don't you think that overly stiff wrestling could be one of the factors that sways wrestlers more in the direction of painkiller addiction, and thus forth contribute to the worryingly short lives that wrestlers seem to have in this day and age? ;*( I know that lots of people see it as a big macho ritual, SEEING WHO CAN TAKE AND DISH OUT THE MOST PAIN AND PUNISHMENT, but the fact remains that the human body doesn't like that kind of thing, AND IT WILL EVENTUALLY YIELD UNDER THE STRAIN OF IT ALL. ;*( On a side note, was there any heat between you and Shane Douglas in ECW? I remember the first time I saw a match between you, chopping each other A MILLION TIMES, and I was like, WHOA!!!!! THESE TWO MUST HATE EACH OTHER FOR REAL!!!!! ;*( It just seems fitting that I asked this, since you touched on the topic of stiff working, and what not. Have a great day, Mr. Credible!!!!!!!
I never realized how much thought goes into telling a good story in the ring until watching these videos.. it definitely cements the fact that wrestling can truly be an art form..
I could watch these videos all day, great stuff
Hey, Justin, your Pro Wrestling 101 series is really informative & interesting! Keep 'em coming!

Thanks for all the great uploads Justin, I'd like one how you recommend people deal with fame and public recognition if possible.
Cheers.
Excellent work here. I can't wait until the next one!

thank you for this, you are building a legacy reaching out to indie guys like this.

***** No, a Heel shouldn't be cheered, excluding hometowns, a heel's job is to be booed.

Totally agree with all your points as without strong heels then its harder for the faces to get over. I also miss heel managers.
All of these are fucking incredible, man. Really appreciated.
Wow, great vids. Nice to hear the business.
Congrats IWE and FTW titles and that's Justin credible!

What heels should I check out Justin?
justin is the man

This guys should have a wrestling school (if he doesn't already). He's a great teacher.

New episode
+Justin Credible Hey Montoya, wipe that goofball babyface smile off your face. We want ecw, not pg wwe...>
thank you for this
I agree with what justin was saying about communication, look at super dragon doesn't even speak and is one of the most hated heels on the indies.
Aldo has a pretty inexpensive collection of heels for you to check out.
Oddly, Brian Pillman is a great example of both heel and babyface.
Working slow is the way to go
More like 20 years ago for clear cut babyfaces/heels. We are in 2013!
Hey Justin,
Who are some Heel's I could check out for some Real Heel-ish style?
My guy manifested MJF talking about how much money there is in being a real heel.
I must admit I see the pros of the modern era neutral characters like stone cold but as a fan nothing makes you fired up as when good baby face comes back against a great heel , edge of the seat stuff.
i would rather be a heel then a face
