I can not tell you how many times I've watched this video since I got my Jabao doser a few weeks ago. Thank you for all the time you put into all of your videos! All of your work is very inspiring!
I can't tell you how many times I watched this video when I need to recalibrate or reprogram my dp-4. I'm an electronic moron, but this video is so easy, even I can successfully set up my dosing pump. Great video.
After intensive research I went with this dosing pump... But the Chinese instructions where so confusing.. Thanks to your video on setting up this particular dosing pump was awesome and made it extremely simple to setup.. Will be doing an update on my 35 gallon cube reef tank soon.. Right now I am recovery from surgery on both my feet.. Thanks a million.Happy reefing Sir..
This video it finally after 1.5 years helped to fully understand the system settings. Printed manual for the device is totally sucks. Thank you very much for this video.
I recently found out on my DP-4 that if you calibrate to 100ml that it doses twice the amount you program it to. Cyberaquarist pointed that out to me as he ran into the same problem. We both bought ours recently, so it could be a new problem. You obviously measured it and it's right on the money. Just a beware for others that by this pump. We had to calibrate our stop 50ml and then it works fine.
Thanks for the heads up, That is why i always test every pump head and calibrate often. I have yet to run into that problem but i will keep an eye out on future purchases. Thanks again.
Great video am petrified of a doser malfunctioning and dosing to much soda ash into my tanks. Do you trust this with soda ash or kalk even? Has it ever misdosed to much or to little, or even worse getting stuck in the on postion!. I have been hand dosing for years because of this fear but my neighbor I trusted to dose has moved lol. So vacations are out. I know Brs always talks about redundancy and always add something even on atos but never heard them mention that on dosing. What could I add?. maybe ph probe or Should I switch to bicarb?
This is a very detailed video. Thank you so much for taking the time to post it!! I have a few questions: 1. Does the water you use to calibrate the pump have to be your saltwater mix or can you just use tap water? 2. Does each pump have to be calibrated or does the first calibration set all of them? 3. Someone else asked this but I didn't see a reply so I'll re-ask... If your dosing containers happen to accidentally be dry and the pump comes on will it automatically shut off or will it run dry (and can that damage the unit)? Thank you again for this!!!
Thx for your helpful tutorial! DO you have to re program and /or recalibrate every time you unplug the unit or does it carry all the programming done before loss of power? Thanks again
Hello and thank for you videos! Can tou advice me in wether i sure dose to the sump witch mean that the dose will go through the skimmer, or directly to the display tank bypassing the skimmer all together?
Great Vid. But I have a serious concern with this sort of setup. Doesn’t the hose distance and fertilizer viscosity play a major role in pump calibrations. For instance, my iron fertilizer has a denser viscosity than the potassium fertilizer, wouldn’t that throw the pump calibration off if I use water to calibrate all 4 pumps? 🤔
G'day Travis, I just ordered my first new doser this morning and thanks to this very informative video I know I can set it up with confidence when it arrives.
Is there a maximum overhead height? I don't have a sump. Can I put the dosing pump at the bottom of the cabinet and run the OUT tube two feet up into my tank?
Okay thanks for the vid. Now I want to dose ever other day. Do I put 1 or 2 on my interval? Magnesium seems to be used up faster than Calcium for my 75 gallon reef tank.
I've got a question that nobody sees to address , I've got no sump so can I mount the pump below the tank or am I looking at a problem with back flow and will they pump liquid up hill or is it dependent on gravity everybody don't seem to think of this in there explanations although yours is the clearest description up to now . Cheers
Hay other Travis. When you setup your dosing pump did you have to do what Lakis Andever did in his video about switching the rollers around in the dosing pump heads? Do you really think it was engineered backwards? I just bought one and am trying to figure out setting it up.
Random question though! I tested alk mag and cal. Alk was high! 12.5mag was low 1050 and cal was 420 I am using kalk. Why would these readings be like this and how do I lower alkalinity?
when mag levels are low it can cause issues between cal and alk. Mag is in the water to keep those two from coming together. I would get your mag up over the next few days i would shoot for 1350. If you are using kalk you are adding equal parts of cal and alk so i wouldnt worry about adjusting those.
Hey Travis, is there way to make this pump dose different pumps on different days? I was hoping to auto dose some micro and macro fertilizer, but wont both pumps just start on the same day if you set them to 2 day intervals? They would have to start staggered or else they both dose on the same day together?
Thanks, Great Video! Shouldn't the calibration be done once you have set up the pump in the aquarium and using the length of tubing and positioning the final set up will have? The flow resistance will be different depending on these factors and consequently the revolutions the pump will need will change as well.
Wont it lose calibration once you place it in your tank and remove the tap water thats inbetween the tubes? Or you just leave it with the water there and just connect it?
Hey Travis sorry to bug you again. I picked up my Jebao DP-4 and setup and calibrated per your instructions in this video. After calibrating to 100ml I tested at 20ml and it's spot on. I did find though at lower numbers its off. I want to dose 2ml over several hours and its putting out 3ml. Anything under 10 seems to be about 1ml off. Is this the same as yours???? If so do you know of a fix or should i just calculate my doses adding the extra ml its getting at the lower dose? Thank you very much.
any chance you could link acrylic rod used in this video? or one that would fit in airline tubing I have the same black airline tubing but I need to do the same thing you did for the containers I am using the tubing curls
do i need to calibrate when all the tube already install to the sump ? or just calibrate using shorter tube , and the result will be the same when changing to the actual length tube to the sump from the doser ?
Hi, thanks for sharing all the valuable information at your channel here! :) upon a power failure, does the unit need to be re calibrated and re programmed? thanks
Hi there... I wanted to know what are the inner diameters of the dosing tubes? Also, are they removable from the dosing head, in case I want to use thicker tubes? Thanks
If I set it to 10ml per day. But I want to spread that 10ml out say 10x per day. The pump will do a total of 10ml in the 10 cycles correct? I do t want it to do 10ml each time....
Hi, I just got one and my question is do you calibrate it on the table and walk away. Or do you need to have it mounted where its going to be with the correct length of tubing. I was wondering because if you calabrate it with 8 inches of tubing on each side then mount it with 3 feet on one side and 2 feet on the other will you still get the same calabrated amount out? I hope my question is clear...lol
I calibrate mine with about a foot or so on each side and i currently run 4 feet behind sump, i have yet to run into any issues. You could always set an amount and test to see if thats what gets dosed.
question have the same pump do you keep in mind the length of the tubing towards the ml. or it doesn't matter reason am asking is cause a mde them a little long and I want to short them a little but not know ifi t's going to throw off the calibration
I dont think you can calculate head pressure when it comes to these pumps I have about 5 feet worth of length and have yet to see any problems. Just make sure when you first calibrate you have no air bubbles in the line to increase how accurate the calibration is. The best thing you can do is set an amount and run the pump to see if it doses the correct amount at that length. Let me know what you find out.
I recommend using a scale as well to be more accurate. Example 100ML on cylinder was at 145 sec and using scale was at 143 sec instead. You will get more accurate measurement doing this.
Hi all! quick question, when my pump doesn't proceed to dosage for some time (like 24h), the inlet tube liquid slowly flows back to the solution container. What can i do about it because i thought peristaltic would retain the liquid when off ?
I can not tell you how many times I've watched this video since I got my Jabao doser a few weeks ago. Thank you for all the time you put into all of your videos! All of your work is very inspiring!

This is one of the most helpful reefing videos on RUclips. So helpful. Thank you so much.
Best info out here concerning setting up this task. I was SO CONFUSED lol. Thank you

Just got one. Pitched the ChiCom instructions and went STRIAGHT to this video lol....Thank you!!!
Excellent video, full on to the point. I dont even have this device nor dose, and I enjoyed it.

exact problem happened to me this morning must be a defect in the new ones like you said
My first time to use dosing pump and I just purchased like this one. Thanks for sharing this video.
Np glad to help
That was the best instructional video I've ever seen. Thank you
Ive never calibrated my dosing pump and it works perfectly fine
Nice
I think this is the most useful RUclips video ever! thanks for video.
Jebao needs to pay u for every sale they make.
I love mine. They work just fine !!😊
Thank you so much for this wonderful video
Thanks for this guide it is 2020 and your video still helps a lot
every time i need to reprogram my pump i come and watch this video! thanks so much man!
awesome !!! video. No fluff. Straight to teaching and very detailed.
Thanks for the tutorial. It helped me setup my new Dp-2.
Np glad to help
Thanks for the help...hand down best RUclips video for the Jebao Dosing Pump
so great explanations !!! Xavier from France

This helped me so much. The directions that come with it suck.
Gonna work great on my fresh water tank.
Thank you. Nice simple concise explanation.
Great guide
Awesome video, as are all of your videos... Thanks a lot!!! Very helpful!!!! Keep them coming...
Thank you its always good to hear that.

Great video just got my dp-4 delivered today. Very helpful 👍🏻
Glad to help
Thanks for this video Travis
I know this is old but thanks for making this video!
Thanks for video dude! Really helps for sure. Been watching your videos with much interest. Happy Reefing!
Thx for your helpful tutorial! DO you have to re program and /or recalibrate every time you unplug the unit or does it carry all the programming done before loss of power? Thanks again
Also could I possibly use this pump to dose a water storage tank with prime by any chance? Thanks
You can dose anything liquid form as long as the instructions of the product does not say ' shake well before use ' or something similar.
Great video !
thanks bud! great video, quick and to the point. very easy to follow steps.
Thank you brother!
Because of positive comment i will subscribe
Thank you SO much for this video.
very informative question what time do.you suggest will be the best. time to add any dose lights on or lights out I'm i new at this
Thank you! this helped tremendously.
Thank you for the video! Just finished setting up mine...
Hello and thank for you videos!

Thanks for the great and informative video.
How do you find the noise level compared to other dose pumps?
Its not to bad, once the heads start to go bad they click
Lol thanks. my instructions say 0 no dose 1 everyday grrrr bad instructions tho I love jebao. Thanks bloke.
G'day Travis, I just ordered my first new doser this morning and thanks to this very informative video I know I can set it up with confidence when it arrives.
Great guide to using the pump. Where do you get your glass tubes from and how do you feed the tubes in to the tank
I noticed that a lot of fluid is still in the output tube when it gets to 100ml. Does that matter ?
Is there a maximum overhead height? I don't have a sump. Can I put the dosing pump at the bottom of the cabinet and run the OUT tube two feet up into my tank?
Okay thanks for the vid. Now I want to dose ever other day. Do I put 1 or 2 on my interval? Magnesium seems to be used up faster than Calcium for my 75 gallon reef tank.
Ive just got one of these thank for the video..
Thanx Travis. This was helpful. Did you calibrate all 4 pumps or Calibrate #1 and just test the other 3?
All 4
Thanx again. I'm all calibrated and programmed and I never opened the book. Great Video
I'm considering this pump. It's a good price.
Great video, excellent instruction. How is this dosing pump working out for you.
I have four total and one of them is almost two years old and it still kicking. one button is a little hard to push but im not upset over it.
A quick question would that be 10.1ml because there was a one after the sign?
I've got a question that nobody sees to address , I've got no sump so can I mount the pump below the tank or am I looking at a problem with back flow and will they pump liquid up hill or is it dependent on gravity everybody don't seem to think of this in there explanations although yours is the clearest description up to now . Cheers
i have pumped it up over three feet before with no back flow or issues. I guess when i get some time ill do a test video to see what happens.
Great video!! Thanks!! 😊
Do you know if theres a way to connect that pump to a PLC ? is there a connection at the back of module or something or even inside?
Awesome “how to” video
I guess you program it to check it correct if its calibrated for each pump?
Hay other Travis. When you setup your dosing pump did you have to do what
Lakis Andever did in his video about switching the rollers around in the dosing pump heads? Do you really think it was engineered backwards? I just bought one and am trying to figure out setting it up.
Hola,
Great video quick question do you to have calibrate each pump..?
Thanks
Yes you need to calibrate each pump
Another great video
Should you then prime the lines with the solution before dosing?
Thank you for this! I just bought this pump used off reef 2reef
no problem
Random question though! I tested alk mag and cal. Alk was high! 12.5mag was low 1050 and cal was 420 I am using kalk. Why would these readings be like this and how do I lower alkalinity?

If you are using kalk you are adding equal parts of cal and alk so i wouldnt worry about adjusting those.
Well I figured I would stop with the kalk and see what happens so I can just 2 part dose.
You need to get your mag in check before you do anything else.
Hey Travis, is there way to make this pump dose different pumps on different days?
I was hoping to auto dose some micro and macro fertilizer, but wont both pumps just start on the same day if you set them to 2 day intervals? They would have to start staggered or else they both dose on the same day together?

The flow resistance will be different depending on these factors and consequently the revolutions the pump will need will change as well.
I was concerned about this as well. Also, the viscosity of the fertilizers affect pump performance.
I have thought of this as well. This is not the only video on YT that doesn't bring this up. Still a great instructional video, mind you.
Wont it lose calibration once you place it in your tank and remove the tap water thats inbetween the tubes? Or you just leave it with the water there and just connect it?
Great guide! THX!

or just calibrate using shorter tube , and the result will be the same when changing to the actual length tube to the sump from the doser ?
I’m very new to this kinda stuff in the reef hobby, so this doesn’t test water and sample accordingly, what does test and sample accordingly?
Neptune Trident, reefbot, KH director? Alkatronic
How does the pump work? Is the mechanism a peristaltic pump?
Hi, thanks for sharing all the valuable information at your channel here! :)
upon a power failure, does the unit need to be re calibrated and re programmed?
thanks
+Soeren Reul no it stays calibrated
ok thanks :)
Funny, you did this on my birthday.
But you said march😂
Hi there... I wanted to know what are the inner diameters of the dosing tubes? Also, are they removable from the dosing head, in case I want to use thicker tubes? Thanks
Just got a unit, do you still use these on your tanks today? Any problems after such a long time or any advice beside obviously calibrating.
If I set it to 10ml per day. But I want to spread that 10ml out say 10x per day. The pump will do a total of 10ml in the 10 cycles correct? I do t want it to do 10ml each time....
Hay hex I'm curious if u ever had an issue with this dosing pump. As I looking for a great doser
Great video! What happens in a power outage? Does it remember all your settings?
It will remember the settings
Hi, I just got one and my question is do you calibrate it on the table and walk away. Or do you need to have it mounted where its going to be with the correct length of tubing. +FishOfHex awesome.. thanks for the quick response.
Would you recommend this doser ?

Hello, I have a question about the pump. Are all settings saved even if the power supply is interrupted?
Yes from what I know it has a cmos battery and saves them.. for how long idk
Great video. Thanks
thanks
Will it keep its settings if lose of power for 72hrs and be up to date as far as next dose time
Can I just ask how come it shows 8 pumps to program when their are only 4 pumps. Thanks ?
Justin Stuart because you can get slave version of this pump (dp-4s, just 4 dosing units without controller) and control them using your master unit
Great info
I recommend using a scale as well to be more accurate. Example 100ML on cylinder was at 145 sec and using scale was at 143 sec instead. You will get more accurate measurement doing this.
great video
Thank you
thank you very much !
Thank you
Hi all! quick question, when my pump doesn't proceed to dosage for some time (like 24h), the inlet tube liquid slowly flows back to the solution container. What can i do about it because i thought peristaltic would retain the liquid when off ?
Good video except when I calibrate or set dose the fluid drains back down into the bottle and my line becomes empty.
