+noel Trace - Wikipedia - "The same year ('56), his interest in music was further stimulated when his father brought home a collection of American 45s by artists including Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, the Platters, Fats Domino, Elvis Presley and Little Richard. Upon listening to "Tutti Frutti", Bowie would later say, "I had heard God"." Watch some videos of Little Richard, and you'll know why.
Who can say? I love both of their music. Differently, of course.. they are different artist. Certainly one must acknowledge Kanye is equally relevant to hip hop as David is to Rock music.
Well no offense, but I listened to just about everything Kanye has ever recorded over the years, and I just don't see it, this "talent" of his. Some of his stuff is pretty OK, but to me it's comes across as pretty ordinary, like something I would expect from an idiot like him, he never surprised me even once whereas Bowie, his last album Blackstar just utterly blew my mind especially that song "Tis a pity she was a whore" which I must have listened to hundreds of times since it came out only last January. I mean listen to that thing, he actually has jazz musicians playing free form deliberately playing out of tune, going free improv and incredibly it worked. He took free form jazz improvisation and combined it with rock and came up with an entirely new genre of music. He also combined Gregorian chants from the 9th century and melded it with pop and it all worked. That is Genius with a capital G and he did at 69 years old and while dying of cancer. Meanwhile I listen to Kanye spouting gibberish over other peoples records like a 5 year old kid would do and he has the gall to spout how great he is.
Omg....all these post 1980 Bowie interviews....... especially his continuously thickening hair...... sooo bloody boring... You can sense his major occupation was his Wallstreet profile.....
Very hard to listen to him talking about being 70 years old, and what I feel is a comfortable assumption that he'd get there and surpass that... And to now inow that isn't so. I feel such sorrow for him to have dealt with that bastard called cancer and to have died prior to 70, leaving his lovely wife. Son and young daughter behind. A terrible loss to music and art... But more so for his family. Weeks on, the grief hasnt disappeared yet. He was an intelligent, articulate, sensitive cultured man, witha lot of talent in a diverse range of arts. His work was inspiring and just downright enjoyable.Truly, a great loss. A musician, song writer, vocalist, actor, painter, entrepreneur, a fashion icon and a visionary in the arts world and its fusion with technology.I don't think we shall ever see such a person again. Goodbye DB, you were loved and respected across the world,
These things happen ....when one smoked like a chimney....on top of that a coke habbit ......he was lucky he reached the age he did.....especially with that overpayed bunch of studio technicians he worked with for over 30 years... Bowie after all is mainly about his 70's persona.... Just like the Stones , his post 80's material was sparingly performed....in fear his audience might've dozed off...
Since his death I have listened to a few David Bowie interviews. All his later ones show what insight he had. I love his music. The theatricality. But just listen to the man. His last decades were full of joy. I feel for the loss of his family. David Bowie was many things but most of all I feel he gained wisdom. He learned to truely love and empahise..and that is for all of us our greatest task.
Amanda I know it BROKE MY HEART. I lost my dad last March 2016 also, but he was 100 yrs old! So, I have morned BOWIE more.( my father was a GREAT man, who I loved dearly, but living to 100 is about all one can ask) David, I wish you could have seen your beautiful daughter walk down the aisle.
See your comment was "five years" ago. His music transcends death, part of my youth, still now think young Americans and hunky dory are two of the best albums ever recorded.
It was the feeling that he WAS forever, that he was a constant signpost to the future, that made the sudden loss of him so incomprehensible, to me at least. All of a sudden the unimaginable-- a future without him in it---was the new reality. And something priceless and irreplaceable had gone out of the world. I really miss him in the turbulent years since.
When he makes that joke about "God came to me and said: - Let there be Ziggy! " i almost die from laughter, ha,ha! He is the perfect show man, nobody would think he is almost 57 here. Thanks for sharing!
I would say that he lived is wife and periods in it were much different. He brought me so m7ch and still by his music and his style. Thank you David and I am happy that you were happy with Iman.
It's a shame he's still not with us but in his 69 years he got to live and achieve more than most of us will achieve in 20 lifetimes. He faced adversity in life as we all do but overall he had a great life.
A true brilliant artist, trailblazer, quantum!!! His voice will live on 4eva... Ziggy Stardust, so amazing to have experienced the greatness of his lifetime.
Why interviewers like Parkinson had to ask about Ziggy, thirty years on, seemed to underline how little they knew about or researched about Bowie. Ziggy was one character. Post Station to Station (1976) Bowie was not using characters any more. He did not fade away but continued as one of the most important artists of the past fifty years, but Ziggy is still who they thought he was.
David bless him my beautiful soulmate I didn't know that he met victoria beckham I love her as well I will love david eternally and miss him eternally David's soulmate
@justascarletwoman I noticed that too and I think it has a lot to do with the fact he was very much and very often on drugs. He sort of stopped using cocaine around the thin white duke times but then stopped completely around the time his daughter was born
Haven't realised it before, but he doesn't look very well in this interview; compare with the Parkinson interview made the year before. He looks far better in that.
His health was about to go completely pear-shaped. The heart attack was just around the corner. Then the years of being bloated from the drugs to treat his heart condition and then the damn cancer. Considering what he'd ingested though, he'd been very lucky for a very long time.
Never seen this video.. Thank for sharing this! I've been a fan of Bowie since hearing space oddity. And just indulged on all the art that surrounded him. One of his quotes I always remember: I don't know where I'm Going, but I know it's not going to be boring🙂
BARRY LISTEN TO YOU CLUTCHING AT STRAWS MATE!!! WHY AREN'T THEY ON HIS GREATEST HITS COLLECTION THEN? RECORD COMPANIES WOULD NEVER PUT THAT DRIVEL OUT....OK? DRIVEL....."HELLO SPACE BOY!!"! DO ME A FAVOUR!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! "NEVER LET ME DOWN"......OOOOOOHHHHHHH!!!!! I NEED A DRINK!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Self-deprecating and witty. He comes across as a genuine person. What a legend.
So interesting to listen to
When Bowie says "in 13 years I will be 70"...is so heartbreaking. Dead at 69. And all of that beauty and incomparable talent went with him.
I love him
RIP David Bowie 😢😮
one year off making the 70 , RIP DB
+Gary Murgatroyd at 1:55 :-(
exactly rip Bowie 69 buds only 69...
+Josh Clancy exactly
One of the coolest & sexy man! Rest easy Starman
+ALesina Young So so so Sexy ..my god
he had a swag and was super stylish
Ok, so... apparently "once made Victoria Beckham crack a smile" was among the long list of unexpected David Bowie accomplishments. :-)
Would've been a lot more impressive had he done that back in the late 90s...
I guess now that I think of it, David Bowie was lucky to have a nice full head of hair for his whole life.
can you get me low call get calerio tonic water thank you love you xxxxxxxxxx
Love the way he said he was 70 in three weeks time (when he was 57) - what a great answer when someone pushes you on your age ... ;)
"just buy the bus". Doesn't matter what anyone else says but Bowie says a phrase, and it's always funnier.
Not so much Rock 'n Roll that, more Cliff Richard though...
ook at how he WALKS!!! that's the strut of someone totally in power of their sexuality.
#hero
Victoria Beckham probably can't believe she's sitting next to this absolute legendary genius
"I Can't beleve I'm sitting next to Clive Anderson"
RIP. You were and always will be amazing
Daivd Bowie said when he first saw Little Richard he wanted to be a Rock Star wow Little Richard inspired so many people

David was so amazing 💔
Its not the years in your life though, its the life in your years, and my goodness he lived more than most of us
Love Bowie's Humour. Probably helps his longevity, he doesn't take himself too seriously.
Well ...
@@hissingflora5245 Well what?
I Luv David!

God I love Bowie.
Terr, David Bowie (1947-2016).
So sad he talked about making it to 70. My own daddy died at 69 as well.

Men are from Mars I'm from Bromley.
He made an Isherwood reference!! Marry me :D
He dies and Kanye lives, God wants us to suffer.
+Georgie Thumbs I was a huge Bowie fan and I think Kanye is pretty obnoxious, but there is no question he is great talent. As great as Bowie? No way.
Who can say? I love both of their music. Differently, of course.. they are different artist. Certainly one must acknowledge Kanye is equally relevant to hip hop as David is to Rock music.
Yes but Bowie's music is immortal and will live forever. Kanye may be remembered but I doubt at the same level.
Well no offense, but I listened to just about everything Kanye has ever recorded over the years, and I just don't see it, this "talent" of his. I do like Kanye, but I'll agree with you that "Tis a Pity" is an absolute masterpiece at a level he will probably never reach.
13 years to 70. he never made it
Georgie Thumbs, you are hilarious! So true.
I want to be him!
Who's the guy with the toupee he was talking about?
he said he'd rather not name him
can't tell the difference between him & Duff Mckagan
"13 to 70" :(
At this point Victoria stuffed puppet and Clive nobody James should of been told to clear off
Oh calm down.

😞😭
Parky : did you ever write poetry? Pretty much every song was a poem 🥰
Bowie, as always, was gracious enough not to laugh
Lovely man, real talent and a brain. Died way too early. People like David should live forever. I hope he does, in everyone's hearts at least. RIP.
See your comment was "five years" ago. His music transcends death, part of my youth, still now think young Americans and hunky dory are two of the best albums ever recorded.

We are all eternal. Death is just a change of body. Read the Bhagavad-gita (especially chapter 2)

Eddie Izzard 'simple nail varnish and a cashmere sweater' 😁
Rock n Roll might have been invented here in America, but the Brits made it better.
@Bonita Tucker Clark As a proud Englishman and Bowie nut, thanks for those comments lads x

i feel awful about it: he never got to the age of 70. Poor thing

The most talented, cute, funny, sexy and totally sweet adorable gentleman on the planet. Our beautiful David will never get old : ) ♥♥♥
He was 56 in 2003. Sadly he never made 70. He had only two days of 69
A true brilliant artist, trailblazer, quantum!!! His voice will live on 4eva... Ziggy Stardust, so amazing to have experienced the greatness of his lifetime.
Apart from everything else, he is also the only person in the world who can make Victoria Beckham smile in public.
😂
Sadly, he didn't make it to 70. He died 2 days after he turned 69. 😢
And on that birthday he was the one giving the presents, for he left us one last, beautiful gift. It was a Blackstar.
Great to look back at a super intelligent talent who never took himself too seriously. Very witty and sadly missed.
57 here, Bowie looks absolutely fantastic
Travis Scottish accent, loved it 😆
Victoria is thinking " wow a sexy guy who also has something called charisma and conversation."
And who is sooooooooooooo talented 😍

No need for anyone else to bring up the fact that he didn't make it to 70. We get it! I've just lost a year myself reading the comments!
Too cool.
I miss him badly.

David Bowie Is So Funny In That Clip
So if he lives until he's 258 (he can afford it) you'll lose interest? Poor David...
@justascarletwoman I noticed that too and I think it has a lot to do with the fact he was very much and very often on drugs. He sort of stopped using cocaine around the thin white duke times but then stopped completely around the time his daughter was born
He's the Man !
