I'm in the middle of the series now, LOVE IT! Exorcist 3 is always the best. And the prequel movies are.....problematic but good for the world building.
Ya....for those who say they "laughed their asses off" all the way through Texas Chainsaw AND The Exorcist should try watching both films....by themselves...late at night...in the dark...and then call me in the morning 🤮👹👻😈
Forget the fact that this film doesn't have jump scares, what makes it scary is that this film has a one note tone that lingers and gets under your skin. The people who saw this film for the first time in 1973 was alive for 2 hours in that theater.
There are two jump-scares in the movie... The one in the attic where the candlebra flames out... And the phone ringing when Karras is listening to the playback of the demon on tape
Sorry for the double post, but Sean was kind of right and kind of wrong. According to current christian dogma there is only one The Devil, so every other name you call it, doesn't change its nature. Christians literally persecuted people over this, just to make it stick. On the other hand Baalzebul,as all the other demons with a name starting in Baal, are rebranding of ancient Canaanite gods(which means all the Levant basically: Jordan,Syria,Palestine,Israel etc..).Beelzebub in particular was a Philistine deity (the ancient enemies of the hebrew,Samson in particular) venerated in the city of Ekron. Baal in Northwest semitic languages meant "Lord", so a lot of deities had it in their name. In christian mythology it's called "Lord of flies" and represents one of the seven deadly sins, the sin of gluttony. Also in the new Testament it's used as an equivalent to Satan in a couple places, so you were not wrong :)
I can't understand who finds this movie funny. I've seen the parodies and reposessed too, but if you really watch the movie you start feeling bad for this girl and her mother, then we have the priest with a troubled background and alcoholism, the wonderful, iconic shots, the music..The fact that it's a demon in the body of a little girl that is following you around, climbing down the stairs and actively influencing the physical world should scare the shit out of you. The implications alone should frighten you. Granted some of it can look and feel a bit dated, so a lot of people will check out automatically i guess..which is a shame
This may be my favorite movie of all time. Just an amazing experience.

The Exorcist is such a classic, even the Title card is more scary than most recent horror movies of today.

In a time in which so much useless, empty, shallow, repetitive and meaningless crap is constantly released, the classics stand out big time. Thank you
