  • The Crystal River area is a fantastic place to chase redfish on the fly. Although these fish are far more spooky here than they are in most areas, with a lil patience and the right setup you can get a few to the boat. On this trip I fish with my good friend Kevin Garcia who you may remember from a quick edit I posted last year from the same area. Needless to say, everything turned out better than we could have hoped.

I have only been scuba diving, and snorkeling with the manatee, in Crystal River, Florida. But, I have also seen some big tarpon, while diving the river. But, I have heard that the fishing was good too. Great film footage.

Are you using 8 weights or 10s?

I do a lot of camping in Crystal River but I’m limited to kayak fishing. It would be great to be able to stand and cast out of skiff or bay boat and not have to worry about the wind blowing me into or away from the fish.

So what set up would consider the right setup?

Ill be there in a week, coming from a very snowy and cold Alaska. Been tying at the bench, Kwans (black/purple, Neutral Tans), Spawning Shrimp (Tan), and some pinfish patterns. Anything particular you feel I should absolutely have in the box?
