- A beautiful and unfairly overlooked work for soprano and chamber orchestra by the late Dutch composer Louis Andriessen. The sung text is from the 1937 historical novel 'Winged Pharaoh' by Joan Grant.
"Dances was originally written for a choreography by Bianca van Dillen: De Trap (The Stair). One part of this work has been deleted. The first performance of De Trap took place in the Frascati Theatre in Amsterdam on 24 April 1991, and was produced by the Stichting Dansproductie. The music was performed by the Asko Ensemble and soprano Claron McFadden played the role of an Egyptian princess among the dancers. She chooses one of the dancers to go up the stairs." -- Louis Andriessen
Performed by Claron McFadden with the Netherlands Radio Chamber Orchestra conducted by Günther Schuller.
Recorded in 1992 at the Geertekerk, Utrecht.
