Narrator: In the end, all was chaos and fire. The gods were angry......again. (gods talking to each other) God: The next time, we give the fire to the woman!
"THE NEXT TIME... we give the fire to the woman." That's my favorite line in the whole episode. I would certainly trust my girlfriend with fire than myself any day.
I did a search for “fire safety cartoon” trying to find this and came back with thousands of hits. I refined it as “Canadian fire safety cartoon” and this was the top hit.
I saw this cartoon in my 3rd grade class in 1973 with a real fire man doing a lecture on fire related safety tips showing a series of four, 16 millimeter projector films on fire safety . the other films were quite boring and forgettable but Hot Stuff was played last. It was funny as hell. In the 1980's It was frequently played on Pay TV First Choice Super Channel as an intermission short between featured movies. until recently I assumed this film was lost media.
Absolutely! I remember seeing it on Super Channel in the "80's, but my earliest memory of it is from when I was a kid in the "70's. "COME ON TOAST!!!!" - sooo classic & relatable. Great work by NFB,
Used to play this to UK kids in school in the '80's on VHS. They loved it when he kisses the fire! Ten years later we had a fire in our front room. We left a candle unattended on the TV, the room filled with thick black smoke as the TV burned. A smoke alarm went off, I went in with a bin of water and put it out - I was good at holding my breath. We had only just been given the smoke alarm two weeks earlier.
I first saw this cute little film on 'The Great Space Coaster,' probably about 1981 or 1982. Still funny. I remember feeling sorry for the poor cat who didn't get anything.
Don't argue too much, be carelesss with plugs, and stick a fork in a toaster, or else fire elementals will consume and undo all of creation, with nobody able to stop them!
I remember watching this on the Great Space Coaster....the man in the second half in the cartoon reminds me of my grandpa, except he took care of his pet
I've viewed this "countless" times since first time in '72 on the "International Animation Festival" which Jean Marsh hosted. Only problem was it was only 1/2 hour segments and I believe only 2 seasons.
I love this idea of adam and eve in the ice age, and the serpent just being some casual guy.

I don't remember where I first saw it, possibly PBS back in 1975. They had a series of weird cartoons.
Saw this on the Saturday morning kids show "Curiosity Shop" back in 1971, and I've remembered it ever since.
did it disturb anyone greatly that a toddler had matches?
Well, all things burn to ash eventually......
